Would you?
Dh booked as a nice surprise
Which it is ,a surprise ,he says things will be open ,with social distancing in place .
I’d of thought if things weren’t open ,he wouldn’t of been able to book.
Slightly worried it’s to soon
Anyone else away that week

I just can't imagine it being any fun. It may be a minority, but there's a vocal minority who are making it clear they don't want you there

I feel the same as this, we've gone on holiday to Cornwall quite a few times and this attitude has massively put me off going again, I worry that the very small but very vocal minority has done irreparable damage to Cornwall's tourism industry

@heartsonacake you very much sound like you're not in favour of tourists visiting rather than you're kindly trying to manage to OPs expectations

Sgtmajormummy · 19/06/2020 13:52

The line the tourist sector seems to be taking is:
“Stay away NOW so we can open up completely ASAP.“

4th July is the earliest possible date for bookings, but it hasn’t been confirmed yet. The next would be 13th.

Scruffyoak · 19/06/2020 14:25

We are going. We only ever do walks anyway and the home has a nice garden. We all need a break so we will be going. Not up to the locals tbh.

Cornishandnotaprick · 19/06/2020 15:04

@scruffyoak the locals need holidays too so we completely understand. Have a lovely time Flowers

Ontopofthesunset · 19/06/2020 15:09

We booked week of 4th July last year, way before COVID, and are still hoping to go. To be honest we mainly go walking so we are not going to be inside much except when we are in the house, if the pubs are shut. The local pub is doing takeaway at the moment so though we would usually eat out we will be ok catering more.

Pugsrus · 19/06/2020 15:23

Hamster
Yes always Penzance,it’s where I lived ,so we go every year ,sometimes 4 or 5 times a year ,I’m desperate to have a stay in the new peremier inn next to Penzance train station ,but this time we have dogs ,so can’t .We aren't as a family good with crowds So we tend to go when it’s very quiet ,out of season.
Just really hoping for a swim in the lido,
place where we are staying has kennels so we can get babysitters for the dogs occasionally

We are due to go 4 July and very much hope we can. We have a 2 year old so no pubs / eating out for us, it's just not enjoyable (I know it can be - ours is just a bit manic!) We will just do walks / beach / ice cream / take away and if it rains a rainy walk followed by watching a movie. I think it depends on what you normally do. Pre DS I would have cancelled as would have wanted to be able to eat out / go to the pub / wander little shops etc

HairyToity · 19/06/2020 16:03

I think it'll be quieter on 4th July than say 4th August. Go for it.

strugglingwithdeciding · 19/06/2020 16:20

Most places are aiming to open 4th july as in holiday camps etc as well as potentially some pubs
Some locals might not like it but they don't own cornwall and if its deemed safe to open as many as possible will do so ,they have lost so much money already and the furlough scheme isnt running forever
It will be a different kind of holiday but depends what you like
Near where i live (not cornwall )but coastal some of the watersports places are open and take aways , public toilets etc
But if you dont think you can enjoy and make the best of it then might be worth moving to another date if possible

strugglingwithdeciding · 19/06/2020 16:23

@heartsonacake you think pubs will only open to locals and no tourists , maybe small village but the likes on chains will not do that ans theirs plenty of them also many local buisness will sell to whoever
I guess your a local who doesnt want people visiting
We've just moved our alert level down and as it stands 4th july is date of course that could change but you cant sit around and not plan anything

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 19/06/2020 19:58

@Fallulah I haven't seen many places like that open, but that's not to say they won't be at the beginning of July

Kez200 · 19/06/2020 21:25

We live here and would welcome you under whatever the general restrictions are at the time. I'd recommend thinking differently if you want an early holiday. Look at walks and the moors. Games if it rains. Order takeaways to look after local shops. Bring most basic foodstuffs as queues are here just like anywhere.

If you get great weather the beaches may be OK but lifeguard cover is patchy, but improving. Attractions may be open although few are at the moment.

I would come but Id be happy with a different type of holiday as I like peace and quiet.

Pugsrus · 19/06/2020 22:45

We decided not to postpone,and I can’t wait 😊

Good news OP, have a lovely break x

Time2change2 · 20/06/2020 00:59

Cracks me up when Cornish people say ‘don’t bother coming, nothing to do here’ do they think there is loads to do in other parts of the country then? Thee isn’t much to do anywhere! It’s more about a change of scene and driving down and staying somewhere different IS something to do by itself!!!

Adoptedcornish · 20/06/2020 01:28

As you can probably tell by my username I'm not a native but have lived in Cornwall for nearly a decade - not seen a single place, big or small, catering to 'locals only'.

There are some vocal idiots who think we should remain in lockdown forever but personally I think they are using the virus as just an excuse to keep the riff raff they don't want out of their back yard. It's just that now they have a vaguely legitimate way of telling people to piss off 'because safety/health etc etc...'

I work or used to in a tourist dominated area so I for one welcome people and always have done. Yes I know that's 'selfish' according to some people but there's an estimated 72,000 people going to be out of jobs because of this and the economic impact will be enormous. Versus less that 200, albeit very sad, deaths. I'll take my chances.

I hope you do come on holiday OP and have a lovely time. There's plenty of beautiful places to visit even without shops and tourist attractions, I'll happily be your tour guide if you like 😆

istheresomethingwrongwithme · 20/06/2020 08:57

Hope you have a good holiday @Pugsrus and fingers crossed you have some decent weather Smile
