Taking the knee

Really just wanted an insight into the history or significance of 'taking the knee' in support of Black Lives Matter.

I am 100% in support of the movement but Dominic Raab has been criticised for not doing it and in response I've not heard a reason why it is historically or currently something that if you don't do means you are not in support?

I want to be educated!

Looking forward to learning the meaning and reason behind it and if anyone thinks if you don't do it it's in some way opposed to the movement.

Worst part was, when asked if he would take the knee (Raab) he said he'd only take the knee for 2 people. The queen, and his missus when proposing Hmm

DH said someone on the radio said does b he really not know OR is it a message to certain people in society that he has no time for the issues of black people and when he sees black people taking the knee, rather than (now he knows) thinking oh this is about black people and started in USA he thinks wow that makes them look servile....

What would you lot vote on that?

Thick or deliberate?

Excellent and v gracious post @TroubleNo1

I'm bowing out now. As others have said there are some v unpleasant posts and posters here. The instinct to belittle and criticise and affect superiority is troubling, especially to someone so genuinely wanting to understand more through discussion.

Dialogue and education are always going to be the best ways to eliminate prejudice and promote understanding and diversity.

If everything could be learnt or learnt better through Google why bother with Mumsnet or any forum? Why bother with discussion and schools, teachers and universities. It is a downright stupid and disrespectful response.
