I've had quite good school news this week. Can't say exactly as too outing but pleased with the new school 😊

MaudesMum · 19/06/2020 19:17

I do think that things are gradually improving within our communities, as people start to feel more confident and less scared. I've been shopping a couple of times a week for neighbours since this all started - both over 70, but with no underlying health problems (in fact probably rather fitter than me - very keen walkers). They got initially very scared by all the news from Italy and took the Government advice very seriously, despite being very left wing. But, over the last couple of weeks they've wandered into town and realised it wasn't a plague-filled hellscape, and have also caught up with the local news about our particular district which is pretty low in terms of infections and deaths. So this evening they came round with some flowers and wine as thanks, and I'm off the hook!! I will celebrate tomorrow morning by not going to the Co-Op first thing for specific milk and bread....

Ok just to take off at a tangent...dies anyone have an easy belly pork strips recipie?
Apparently there isnt one on the whole of MN according to advanced search which is rubbish anyway and I am not trawling through 1500 posts on the food thread! Help!

BakewellTarts · 19/06/2020 19:28

@SomewhereEast

Anyone else fascinated by the Italian research establishing that the virus was present in Milan & Turin by mid-December and Bologna by January? They tested sewage samples, which has emerged as a way of tracking the virus in communities. Fascinating that it was obviously circulating in Europe for several months before anyone really registered
I am convinced my boss had it in January. Classic symptoms (Temp Cough, Lethargy) and disease path (rotten 4/5 days period of recovery followed by relapse of 2/3 days). Obviously not tested as too early. I sit next to her so was obviously exposed. If so it was in my London office too.

@willow bbcgoodfood is your friend. Varying levels of complexity and reviews.

Good news - went to surgery chemist to collect prescription today was surprised to see a full car park. Chemist enlightened me the GPs are taking patients again, really glad we have an elderly population here who need to be seen regularly for bloods etc. No sign of hospitals moving yet unfortunately.

Bad news - Anglesey schools will not now re-open because of the covid outbreak at the meat processing plant on the island. Ironically most of the workers are bussed in from England every day but 25% are islanders.

BakewellTarts · 19/06/2020 19:31

@OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks I think the advice to anyone shielded or vulnerable has been rubbish. Its so much harder for you than "ordinary / low risk" folk and I'd have hoped the govt would have clear thought through messages. Sadly they haven't. I really hope it improves.

BakewellTarts · 19/06/2020 19:34

@justasking111 thats really rubbish. I saw the headline. Meat processing factories are real problems across the world. It's sgit that is bolloxed the return to school.

BakewellTarts · 19/06/2020 19:39

@dingit

My mum has been shielding as she as cancer of the blood. This week her consultant told her to start seeing people as the virus will still be around and to live her life ( as long as people are not obviously ill which is normal with chemo anyway). My aunt came to see her and they hugged, I may have cried. Blush Of course they may have said that as I don't think mum has long left with us anyway, but I'm trying not to think about that Sad
I hope you can go an see your mum Dingit. It would be good for both of you. We lost my brother in law to cancer in early April and its shit. Take every moment you can.
dingit · 19/06/2020 19:40

Thank you, I've seen her. Drop off her shopping and chat from the garden 😊

BakewellTarts · 19/06/2020 19:47

@SpnBaby1967 my London office has around 600 staff members maybe a max of 150 allowed when / if it reopens which won't be before August but probably later in the Autumn. My team is not a priority to go back. Sigh. I am missing my colleagues (they are nice folks) and remote collaboration is harder. Still at least I have a job...

LivinLaVidaLoki · 19/06/2020 20:03

Thank you all for your kind words.
@Dowser it's been put down as cardio respiratory failure (which I'm told is code for "old age" or "natural causes"). However Covid has been listed as a secondary or contributory factor (this is on the certification from the GP for my cousin to be able to register her death).
At first she wanted to dispute the covid as she had recovered, but maybe just the sheer effort her body would have put into defeating it just ended up being too much.
She was really quite poorly.

Willow2017 · 19/06/2020 20:13

Thanks Ibake

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 19/06/2020 20:23

@OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks, I sympathise massively - that's really rubbish.

@LivinLaVidaLoki, I'm so sorry about your aunt.

As an indication of generally increasing sanity, I'm happy to say that I've put a message round my team at work about getting back to the office as soon as possible, and such replies as I've had have been very positive. They're brilliant, and they've worked so hard to make this shit situation work for the organisation, but I'm really aware that they're all running low on energy at the moment and they need me to have a plan.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 19/06/2020 20:28

I went to a supermarket today and things felt so much more normal. There was more traffic on the roads, I saw children playing outdoors in a playground at school, people were working on the roads and milling around chatting together. It did me good.

Orangeblossom78 · 19/06/2020 20:34

Had a reply from local lib Dems MP about playparks opening. High touch areas and sadly some young lives lost. Oh dear. Although children low risk. Thanks me for sharing my thoughts on them.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 19/06/2020 20:36

Saw about the Anglsey schools on BBc and found out were in a country that's sticking to three weeks back.

Must be frustrating for staff as the secondary had already outlined their four week plan to parents and pupils.

peaceanddove · 19/06/2020 20:37

I had a slow browse around Waterstones today while drinking a skinny latte from Pret. I won't lie, I've had worse orgasms.

TheGreatWave · 19/06/2020 20:37

Drakeford was right, he needs to protect you all from the disease ridden English. Wink

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 19/06/2020 20:41

TheGreatWave Grin

Though I'm starting to woander how long it will be till we set foot on English soil again.

Worldgonecrazy · 19/06/2020 20:42

@OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks the shielding advice is awful. My mum is shielded but she decided to prioritise her mental health. She’s nearly died twice from cancer treatment side effects and wouldn’t want to live if she couldn’t do normal things. I hope you get clarity soon. I think mums situation is different as she’s elderly but the young shielded must be going through hell.

The anti anti dementors thread seems to have had a number of posts deleted for breaking talk guidelines. Oddly not by anyone from here. Says a lot really doesn't it?

It does indeed!

Great minds 😉😁
