@Drivingdownthe101 I think you're spot on.

BakewellTarts · 18/06/2020 17:38

@Orangeblossom78

MrsFrumble yes the practicalities of secondary are tricky aren't they. I wondered how they might deal with the groups going about from class to class. Not sure.
I was pondering whether it would be possible for years to be organised by teaching groups and then the teachers move class rather than the pupils. Could work for Years 7,8,9 for non practical subjects. Harder in older years.
BakewellTarts · 18/06/2020 17:39

@Drivingdownthe101

The thing is, they’re going to be so disappointed when schools do reopen without social distancing. Because they will... they have to.
I really hope that this is correct.
ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 18/06/2020 17:41

@Drivingdownthe101, I do hope you're right. I'm dreading this dragging on into the next school year (I've given up hope for this one).

Me too. DD1 will have been at home for 6 months in September she needs to go back to school. Also it will be DD2s first month in secondary. I can't see how that will work if she isn't allowed onsite.

AnxiousElephant77 · 18/06/2020 17:45

We cannot continue to sacrifice our children like this! Get them back to bloody school as normal in September.

BakewellTarts · 18/06/2020 17:46

In other happy news I had confirmation that my West End show in September is cancelled.

Disappointing but inevitable I guess. And I'd rather have schools operating normally.

AnxiousElephant77 · 18/06/2020 17:49

It's a real ray of sunshine tonight Grin

Dowser · 18/06/2020 18:07

My son has been for a visit ..and hasn’t this thread scooted on.

Thank you so much Patricia
When I got some insane calculations...I’m looking and thinking eh?
I’m trialling a new treatment, which I won’t mention here till I give it a good go
Just want to be sure I don’t poison myself with it first.

Dowser · 18/06/2020 18:08

When I googled , I got some insane calculations.doh

ButterMeCrumpets · 18/06/2020 18:08

bakingcupcakes it would out me to say what happened but one of my plants did fight back and I ended up in A&E so full PPE for me now in the garden Grin. Think god it's the back garden as I do feel an idiot in it brandishing a pair of pruning scissors.

Popped to the local coop and it's just so normal in there apart from a few signs and tape at the checkout. Had to buy lots of booze to celebrate Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 18/06/2020 18:08

Insane on Arran as a child we used to run wild, also playground was pretty wild too, I remember a child falling onto tarmac from the monkey bars and cutting their head open, also another puncturing a lung on some kind of mudslide area...Confused anyway the helicopter came and took them straight to the newly opened Crosshouse hospital on the mainland

I had minor surgery on my leg in the cottage hospital in Brodick too- think maybe things were better in the 1980s!

peaceanddove · 18/06/2020 18:10

I've done a bit of reckoning with a pencil and I'm pretty sure that both teachers and pupils are far more likely to die in a RTA on their way to or from school, than they are to die from Covid.

Dowser · 18/06/2020 18:10

Karona
he’s just been In power too long. It eventually drives them all nuts.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely

Or words to that effect.

Yes I wondered about that too, maybe blocks of time in practical classes perhaps with seperate entrances (or something) there is stuff they can do- sometimes those areas are in separate buildings anyway.

Not sure about the scrum of the canteen though. Ours has a lovely canteen (sad) they even do hot breakfasts for early starters usually

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 18/06/2020 18:11

Sky fully dementoring with a report about a small baby dying of COVID. They didn't actually die of COVID, it was listed as a secondary reason as the mum had tested positive for it, and they actually died as their little brain had been starved of oxygen.

You're kidding me?! How did you find that out can I ask? Because I saw about the death on the news and while it didn't change my opinions about anything, I did feel very sad for the poor mother. They're saying on the news the baby was otherwise healthy.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/06/2020 18:12

Sorry bold didn't work there

Ulysses · 18/06/2020 18:18

My 14yo DD has a couple of friends round and I've handed them out some chips and nuggets (I know!) to eat in the back garden. One of them has just used the loo. It's been so lovely see them laughing and giggling away. It's about 13 degrees outside and I've offered them jumpers but they are adamant they are fine in their skimpy tops!

Spudlet · 18/06/2020 18:18

I suppose if you’re dealing with huge animals that could potentially kill you on a daily basis, your risk assessments are probably a bit different

There’s probably some truth to that, to be fair. Now if it was a strangles outbreak.... argh! Panic! Grin

AnxiousElephant77 · 18/06/2020 18:21

@Adventures My mistake, I read the report incorrectly. I'd have the post deleted but I'm on my phone.

Ignore me, my rage about my daughter and school has got the better of me today.

May be time for a small break.

Mrsfrumble · 18/06/2020 18:22

I don’t know much about secondary schools these days (although I should, as DS will be in y5 in September) but at the comp I went to, some classes were set by ability from about y8, and others by form group so the grouping wasn’t consistent throughout the day. All the more reason to just say “sod it” and let go back to pretty-much-normal. Surely most NT children will by that age have have stopped sucking their thumbs, chewing communal pencils and the grotty things primary children do.

Orangeblossom78 · 18/06/2020 18:25

Just now, they make my 15 year old line up on a spot outside before they get into school! and make them wash hands Grin

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 18/06/2020 18:25

Torydeathdrug Flowers for you. It sounds exhausting.

I am feeling better today. It's such a relief to feel more myself - this whole pandemic has been a crashing disaster for my mental health. I've done something productive and even been sociable. The other threads are bonkers aren't they? I get sucked in then remember it's a waste of time. I do wonder how some people will get themselves out of the corner they've back themselves into. It's going to be very hard.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 18/06/2020 18:26

Ignore me, my rage about my daughter and school has got the better of me today.

I'm sorry to hear that. You're only human, be gentle with yourself. This is a very infuriating time.

AnxiousElephant77 · 18/06/2020 18:29

I’ve switched to my ipad and asked MN to delete it. I’m really sorry, everyone.
