What do you think about this rug?

I've name changed for this because I've spoken to people about this IRL...

I'm looking for a rug to go in a dark snug - walls are painted Hague blue, there is an oak parquet floor and the furniture has mid century vibes. The sofa is (or will be, once I get the new covers) olive green velvet. I love this room and how dark and cosy and cosseting it is but I'm thinking a really colourful rug might make it even better.

I kind of really love this one but I'm worried it looks a bit garish and cheap...

Any thoughts?

Love the rug but not for the room you've described.

DramaAlpaca · 16/06/2020 00:01

Well, it's certainly bright and cheerful Grin

I think in a snug it would look amazing.

Stonebridge · 16/06/2020 00:02

Agree with the poster above. Your room sounds sophisticatedly snug. This rug doesn't have the sophistication element...

Would give me a migraine 🙈

RuginaSnug · 16/06/2020 00:05

OK cool, thanks.
So you don't think it looks gross?! That's encouraging.

I hear you, @Gruffalosgrandma but I also have an inkling it might work.

I've had this pic in my Pinterest boards for ages and I'm hoping the rug I've found will create this kind of look in the room.

I love it and hate it in equal measure.

notangelinajolie · 16/06/2020 00:06

I like it.

It will look fabulous.

RuginaSnug · 16/06/2020 00:07

@Stonebridge - I think you've articulated what I'm worried about. Thank you.

The one you linked looks a bit cheap. You can get the same vibrancy but with more complex, harmonious shades.

RuginaSnug · 16/06/2020 00:13

Here's the room (sofa will be green velvet soon), in case it helps.

@BaronessBomburst... Ha ha!

Thanks @PickAChew, again, that's what I'm worried about. Trouble is, we also need the rug to be super cheap!

Here's another option - I really liked this one until I saw the garish/cheap/migraine-inducing one. Which has now stolen my heart and made all other rugs look dull and lacklustre.

Love the rug

But not with blue walls and a green sofa...

DramaAlpaca · 16/06/2020 00:22

Having seen your room, I think you're on the right lines but a more subtle colour palette for the rug would look more sophisticated.

I love your floor, not sure I'd want to cover it up at all really, but I get why you want to introduce some colour. I love colour and I'd do something similar.

BaronessBomburst · 16/06/2020 00:22

The one you've just posted is far more sophisticated.
I think the first one has too many colours.

Less is more!

DramaAlpaca · 16/06/2020 00:24

Ooh, I love the one you just posted.

But you love the first one - so I reckon that's what you should choose.

peppapigisscottish · 16/06/2020 00:24

It's brilliant, where is it from ?

BaronessBomburst · 16/06/2020 00:24

Ha! Cross-posted with DramaAlpaca.

RuginaSnug · 16/06/2020 00:26

Thanks @ThunderCrack, thing is I really like a bit of clashing... You're making me want it more Grin.

I keep saying 'fuck it, I'm going to buy it' and then chickening out. Thing is, I could return it (I'd have to pay postage though) if it really didn't work, or I could use it in my DD's room.

Is DD 18 and planning on leaving home?
Or 36 and you want to encourage her....? Grin

ThunderCrack · 16/06/2020 00:29

Go for it then :)

Flair rugs have a lot of bright not too expensive ones: flairrugs.com/collections/contemporary/spectrum/

AdoptedBumpkin · 16/06/2020 00:32

Would maybe not be good for the eyes...?

CoffeeAndEnnui · 16/06/2020 00:32

I think that's an extremely funky rug which will look fab in the room you've photographed. It has real personality and the deeper colours on your walls and new sofa will stop it looking too lairy.

If it were my room I would be probably be tempted to get a new lampshade though; something with a dark or metallic inner. And a few cushions which echo some of the colours from the rug.

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 16/06/2020 00:34

It's like an optical illusion. It would give me a headache.

Germolenequeen · 16/06/2020 00:35

If you get it don't ever go into the room with a hangover 🥴
