What do you think about this rug?

I've name changed for this because I've spoken to people about this IRL...

I'm looking for a rug to go in a dark snug - walls are painted Hague blue, there is an oak parquet floor and the furniture has mid century vibes. The sofa is (or will be, once I get the new covers) olive green velvet. I love this room and how dark and cosy and cosseting it is but I'm thinking a really colourful rug might make it even better.

I kind of really love this one but I'm worried it looks a bit garish and cheap...

Any thoughts?

What do you think about this rug?

@BaronessBomburst Grin ha! No, she's 6. And I'm pretty sure she'd bloody love it.

Thanks @DramaAlpaca... Gah. It's like I need rug 1 and rug 2 to have a rug baby to get what I want. And don't mention the covering up the floor thing - I'm constantly battling with DP about this (who painstakingly laid the whole thing and wants every block on full view forever)... But the flooring goes throughout the whole of the downstairs so I reckon we can spare a bit for a snug rug Grin.

Both rugs are on eBay. Rug 2 is actually cheaper for the same size (or I could get a bigger one for the same price of garish one)

I like it, and it would suit the room.
My favorite is the second one you posted, from Pinterest.

@Germolenequeen Grin... We had the same thought process when picking bathroom tiles and ditched some gorgeous monochrome geometric guys for the exact same reason!

@Tardigrade001, me too, unfortunately... But it's an Anthropologie rug which a) isn't for sale and b) would have been way out of our price range. And c) it's one of those kilim, blanket-style guys and we need a more ruggy rug. If that makes sense?!

The colours on the second one are better, i think, it looks a bit more expensive, and more like an authentic Navajo pattern.. (But what do i know of Navajo?)
it's also a bit paler so may stand out more in your dark-ish room.

ThunderCrack · 16/06/2020 00:43

After seeing the room...

Definitely the first rug

Tartyflette · 16/06/2020 00:46

Would anything like this do -- it comes in different colourways, including an olive-y green. also not expensive.

When I saw the thumbnail of the first rug, I thought it was a larger version of a crochet granny squares blanket.

Maybe you could have some granny squares throws made in colours matching the rug?

RuginaSnug · 16/06/2020 01:08

Shit. I've bought it! Largely because there was only 1 left and I examined how I'd feel if I woke up tomorrow and it was gone...

I'll be back in a few days to give you all a migraine with a pic of my new rug! And you can ask be brutally honest with me Grin

I much prefer the second one, I agree the first one looks like a crocheted blanket.

BlankTimes · 16/06/2020 01:23

I didn't mean the crochet blanket comment to be negative, I'm sure it'll brighten up the floor, looking forward to seeing the pics of it in place.

Hellbentwellwent · 16/06/2020 01:25

Whoop whoop well done op, I’ve learnt the hard way over the years that if you love it and worry about it and whether it’s too big a risk you’ll always regret not buying it.

If you don’t come back and update us with pics though I’ll set killer moths on your rug! We need pics of it in situ!

priya38 · 16/06/2020 01:27

As long as you pick out a few colors from the rug to add as cushions on the sofa or an ornament etc.

I envy your front room. I like dark it's more Cosy.

DramaAlpaca · 16/06/2020 01:44

Oh, well done on buying it, OP! Can't wait to see it in situ, bet it's fab.

WhoAteAllTheDinosaurs · 16/06/2020 06:55

Good! I think it'll be lovely.

BringMeTea · 16/06/2020 07:47

It will definitely work with mcm. Well done for buying it. Grin

Clawdy · 16/06/2020 08:24

Always best to go with your instincts! You will love it.

AlphaJura · 16/06/2020 08:29

I really like that rug. I think you could get away with it in there and it would add vibrancy, as long as you don't have busy patterns on much else.

Katinski · 16/06/2020 08:33

Brilliant news and brilliant rug.Absolutely love it!

BestOption · 16/06/2020 08:36

I hope you love it, but I suspect DD has just got a new rug.

I think the second rug would be better in your snug.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 16/06/2020 08:36

The second one is nicer imo.

What puts me off the first one is it's clearly been digitally imposed into that scene. The shape of the rug is at odds with the rest of the room. So I'd not trust it to look like that when it arrives.

ChateauMargaux · 16/06/2020 08:37

Love the rug and your room will look fantastic!!

Thisismytimetoshine · 16/06/2020 08:40

It's a little too cheap and brassy looking (sorry!) but I do like the colours. Your room is gorgeous.

thebabessavedme · 16/06/2020 08:44

I love the first one, the room looks wonderful - you need a mirror and another table lamp!

thebabessavedme · 16/06/2020 08:44

or standard lamp
