What do you call this plate of food...?

When you have a selection of various foodstuffs? For example:
Crackers, cheese, ham, boiled egg, hummus, crudités, pork pie or sausage roll, grapes.

Basically, a little bit of everything. I've seen it called a 'picky plate' or 'snack plate' on FB etc. I've also seen it mentioned on MN how they detest the saying.

So, I'm just curious what you call this type of meal?

Party dinner or party tea.

Ingridla · 15/06/2020 20:14

I don't know what I call it even though we eat it v regularly however it shall henceforth be known as trashy tapas

cherrypiepie · 15/06/2020 20:17

We call it 'a plate'. Like this "What you having for tea?" " I think I'll just have a plate"

Usually reserved for Christmas. Grin

DwayneBenzie · 15/06/2020 20:19

Bits n bobs.

Pixxie7 · 15/06/2020 20:39

Picnic for me to

Notso · 15/06/2020 21:00

I say it in my head the way Harry Hill used to say "Chippy Chips"

Yes! Grin

I don't call it anything, it sounds a horrible mix.
I would have cheese and biscuits, or bread and cheese, or a sandwich, and some people in my family might have sausage rolls or a pork pie, but not as a meal. It sounds the sort of thing you might get at a party where they've tried to provide for children, old people and vegetarians, but forgot to include anything interesting or tasty.

Christ there are some judgemental people on here 😂 it’s a perfectly normal tea in many, many countries 😂😂. Including this one!! Such snobbery...and it’s not even a ‘lower class’ tea either...it’s just very ordinary plated deli food 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Neolara · 15/06/2020 21:41

Bits and pieces

ainsisoisje · 15/06/2020 22:01

That would be cold tea if with family, bits and bobs/mini picnic if just for me.

girlcrushonvillanelle · 15/06/2020 22:03

A picky tea

CherryPavlova · 15/06/2020 22:05

I can’t see why you’d have all that on a plate. It’s not supper, it would seem excessive for lunch. Would it be a ploughman’s platter for sharing?

Flymetothetoon · 15/06/2020 22:08

Sunday Tea

MarshaBradyo · 15/06/2020 22:15

We don’t really call it anything but I’d think it’s deli food.

passthemustard · 15/06/2020 22:19

Picnic tea!

U2HasTheEdge · 15/06/2020 22:20

Bits on a plate

MadameMinimes · 15/06/2020 22:27

It’s called either a carpet picnic or a sofa picnic here.

ButterfliesandMoths · 15/06/2020 22:28

Picky bits

Sweetooth92 · 15/06/2020 22:29

Growing up we had this every Saturday. Was known as “telly tea” as it was the only night we were allowed to eat not at the table

tuxedobeauty · 15/06/2020 22:33

Picky bits is perfectly acceptable. That's exactly what they are. It may also be a brown buffet. I'm hoping someone invites me to a 50th or 21st soon so I can eat brown buffet. Chilli/curry buffet is a total let down (but easy, I know)

cricketmum84 · 15/06/2020 22:38

Christmas plate here :)

Goodgollymiss · 15/06/2020 22:43
