What do you call this plate of food...?

When you have a selection of various foodstuffs? For example:
Crackers, cheese, ham, boiled egg, hummus, crudités, pork pie or sausage roll, grapes.

Basically, a little bit of everything. I've seen it called a 'picky plate' or 'snack plate' on FB etc. I've also seen it mentioned on MN how they detest the saying.

So, I'm just curious what you call this type of meal?

A picnic plate if it's for kids
A pick if it's for grown ups- usually served with wine Grin

Samtsirch · 15/06/2020 16:15

A plated buffet.
We have it often to use up left overs. Its my favourite meal , ( apart from a curry).

yearinyearout · 15/06/2020 16:18

A picky tea or picky lunch, depending what time it's eaten.

Wellyouknowbest · 15/06/2020 16:22

Homemade lunch able Grin

AdaColeman · 15/06/2020 16:28

Cold collation here! Wine Wine

hellswelshy · 15/06/2020 16:28

A platter. I mainly used this phrase for my dc when they were little, just to make a plate of no effort food sound fancy!Grin

abigailthespiderinthehat · 15/06/2020 16:30

If it's for the kids- then it's called a buffet. If it's for adults then it's Meats and Cheeses (although it usually also involves olives, hummus, bread etc) The term Picky tea absolutely turns my stomach- reminds me of nose pickings 🤢

Pikachubaby · 15/06/2020 16:30

A plate of sadness Grin

To me that’s an almost- meal that doesn’t quite hit the spot....

So I never have it Wink

Cookies2523 · 15/06/2020 16:45

Bits & Bobs.

AdalindMeisner · 15/06/2020 16:47

Another for picky tea.

justjessie · 15/06/2020 16:50

Yes, I do know that it's not actually pronounced cruddites, or can-apes
🤪

Blueuggboots · 15/06/2020 16:51

Catch what you can

moveandmove · 15/06/2020 16:51

I don't give it a name. I'd just use the names of the things on the plate.
Picky tea makes me shudder.

Lurchermom · 15/06/2020 16:52

Picky tea!

Doihavetogotoworkdotcom1 · 15/06/2020 16:54

Buffet food

madamy · 15/06/2020 17:05

Tasting plate. Kids are all teens now and still love a tasting plate meal!

lowlandLucky · 15/06/2020 17:06

That or nothing tea

OnTheRollercoasterCalledLife · 15/06/2020 17:06

A picky tea. There's some bloody snobs on here.

Squince · 15/06/2020 17:18

What's 'snobbish' about disliking the phrase 'picky tea' because it sounds vaguely gross, like something someone fished out of their bellybutton?

It's hardly a what/pardon/loo/toilet/sitting room/lounge-type shibboleth.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 15/06/2020 17:23

We call it a bit of this and a bit of that, or a munchy plate.

ktp100 · 15/06/2020 17:24

@TheQueensCousin A Smores Board or a Smorgasbord?

Man, I could so demolish a smore right now.

Imissmoominmama · 15/06/2020 17:25

I’d just give it the name of whatever meal usually happens at the time I’m eating it.

giantangryrooster · 15/06/2020 17:31

Can't help myself, a smorgasbord is smorgees 🤣 or cuttings etc. on a table, bord means table. So you fancy a smörgås or a piece of Smørrebrød depending on country. I know you don't distinguish, but now you know.

iklboo · 15/06/2020 17:37

Picnic - or 'nicnic' because that's what DS called it when he was little.

Either that or 'bits' - 'I'm not that hungry, I'll just get myself some bits later'.
