What do you call this plate of food...?

When you have a selection of various foodstuffs? For example:
Crackers, cheese, ham, boiled egg, hummus, crudités, pork pie or sausage roll, grapes.

Basically, a little bit of everything. I've seen it called a 'picky plate' or 'snack plate' on FB etc. I've also seen it mentioned on MN how they detest the saying.

So, I'm just curious what you call this type of meal?

SonEtLumiere
I'd think of Abendbrot as being more a slice of bread with something on it, rather than a plate of bits and pieces, but it's probably much the same thing depending on which bit of Germany you're in!

BiddyPop · 15/06/2020 14:25

Platter.

If it was more Italian, (cured meats, tomatoes, olives, cheese etc), we would refer to it as Antipasti.

Or lots of fish things (smoked salmon, cooked prawns, cooked squid rings etc) maybe a Smorgasbord.

But we generally refer to it as "Platter" here.

BuffaloMozzerella · 15/06/2020 14:26

Piggy tea

TheRealHousewife · 15/06/2020 14:27

Snagscardies · 15/06/2020 14:29

Cruddites Grin

TwoZeroTwoZero · 15/06/2020 14:31

A picky dinner or tea. I say and do a lot of things that mn disproves of!

IAmcuriousyellow · 15/06/2020 14:32

Picky Bits

YessicaHaircut · 15/06/2020 14:32

Buffet/picnic tea. Or sometimes referred to as “fend for yourself night” in our house.

octobersky19 · 15/06/2020 14:32

Snacky bits

StarScream22 · 15/06/2020 14:33

Poor mans tapas.

LooseyGoosey · 15/06/2020 14:35

It's Collage Food in my house. Yummy too!

SummerInSun · 15/06/2020 14:36

Also think picky bits sounds disgusting.

We call it "nibbily bits".

Lostinbooksandcoffee · 15/06/2020 14:37

Loving 'trashy tapas'

Wasn't expecting so many replies, and I also had no idea there was a similar thread recently.

My 1yo has been fussy with lunch recently so I've been giving her random bits (today was plain pasta, stripes of roast chicken, cheese, tomatoes and broccoli, plus fruit). I've seen people on here commenting on how they hate it called 'picky bits' so became curious.

I've been calling it a pick'n'mix lunch.

Femunculus · 15/06/2020 14:37

It's a "lunch plate" round here.

Laiste · 15/06/2020 14:38

I honestly don't know!
If you bunged in a bowl of leaves as well i'd call it salad. My salads are lazy like that.

Without the salad? - Picnicy Stuff for tea ....

StarScream22 · 15/06/2020 14:39

Nibbly bits sounds a lot more gross Grin

7ofNine · 15/06/2020 14:39

We call it salmagundi, though technically it isn't (because that's a kind of warm salad thingy).
Often we just say bread and cheese, even though it's far more than just bread and cheese.

minipie · 15/06/2020 14:42

Bits n pieces

covidco · 15/06/2020 14:46

bits on a plate

LuckyAmy1986 · 15/06/2020 15:18

We call it a feast, because that's what the kids say when they see a range of different foods, "Oh, we're having a feast!" Even though it's usually anything but..

BabyLlamaZen · 15/06/2020 15:21

Picnic plate or picnic dinner

Buffet is more purposeful e.g. purposely cooked ranged of hot meals and salads, often for guests.

Canapes smaller bites but again more purposeful and designed to be that way.

okiedokieme · 15/06/2020 15:26

I just call it raiding the fridge
