If this is "almost back to normal" I'm wondering whether my life was particularly different than most people's?

I won't consider us "nearly back to normal" until I can sit INSIDE my mum's house or my friend's house (legally) and I can hug them (legally) and ds' is at school ft with no pissing about with distancing between kids.

I'd say my measure of "almost normal" would be everything open as usual but with no mass events like concerts. And even then I wouldn't be satisfied.

Drivingdownthe101 · 14/06/2020 08:18

I'm now worried about DD going back to school on Mon and getting too close to the kids in her bubble and being told off by her teacher sad

If it’s any consolation this isn’t happening in our school. I think they’re being gently encouraged to maintain distance as a token gesture, but DD1 assures me it’s not happening and no one is telling them off for it! She also says her teacher isn’t staying 2m away and is helping them as normal, which is a relief.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 14/06/2020 08:21

Pissed off this morning as someone spouting on another thread how we're "almost back to normal

Anyone who says this deserves a good slap in the face. Back to normal? yeah- its completely normal to not be able to eat out, go to the cinema, shop, go swimming, go to the gym, send my kids to school, have businesses all around me go bankrupt, queue to get in the supermarket etc etc
All TOTES normal for the highlight of my day to be to go for a another sodding walk.

If this is their "normal" I dread to think what kind of boring, tedious and solitary life they lived pre-covid. Geez.

rookiemere · 14/06/2020 08:27

Off to see my parents this morning. The dogs not been in the car for longer than 10 minutes for months - he won't know what's happening.

DM has relented and said if it's raining we'll be allowed to sit on the hard chairs in the kitchen and use the toilet if needed.

At least it gets me away from fuming and posting about the Scottish lack of education plans. I can't believe it's not front page news and on everyone's feeds in FB. I think everyone is so fed up with covid, they've decided to focus only on nice things and we could sleepwalk into our DCs having next to no education and parents ( in reality mostly mothers) giving up their jobs.

Anyway as I say it's good I'm getting dragged into real life for a while. If we've got time - we need to rush back so DS 14 can go to his illicit football meet- then I might convince DH to stop at a different Dobbies to see if they have any half price Hotel Chocolat left over from Easter. Because clearly from my straining waist bands , I need more !

Lickyicelollies · 14/06/2020 08:29

@SockYarn if you're on Facebook join the Us for Them Scotland group to protest about the blended learning pish Angry the group only formed about 4 days ago and now has over 600 members. It's so good to be amongst like minded parents who are willing to fight this 2m rule (fucking insanity) to try and get our kids back into school.

Dd1 just gets told “2m please ladies” whenever the staff remember about it now. They’re going into bubbles from tomorrow (they’ve been distanced in the hall until now but numbers are rising) but the moronic parents are insisting on 2m as well as bubbles. Apparently my reply to the survey that the science and guidance said children in primaries shouldn’t be expected to distance and I would like that adhered to was ignored completely.

I despair for September.

SockYarn · 14/06/2020 08:30

Already on it, Licky! Have added a couple of my friends too.

rookiemere · 14/06/2020 08:32

Ditto sockyarn.

I see Ian Murray is doing online consultations on Friday. Thinking I might book one to discuss education , and if he has any ideas on how we fight this. I'm not even a Labour supporter, but he seems like a pragmatic man.

Lickyicelollies · 14/06/2020 08:34

Two days til my murderous trip south of the border to hug my Mum and sleep in her house...in my killing rampage I might go in a charity shop and try on some shoes. Cannot bloody wait.

TeacupDrama · 14/06/2020 08:39

Almost normal is no large indoor gatherings, self isolating with mild symptoms instead of taking two paracetamol and a packet of tissues to work. It is not queueing for fish and chips, being unable to try clothes on before purchase, not wandering in a gift shop while chatting to a friend No- one can whisper as we are all too far away to be heard you gave to talk above normal volume, not going to cafes swimming pools church is no where near normal
Average Sunday for us.

  1. Leisurely breakfast. Still happening
  2. Go to church. Not happenin g
  3. Coffee with friends afterwards while DD plays with her friends not happening
  4. Quickly pop to shop for Sunday papers and a dessert might happen but not quickly
  5. Take dessert to friends house and have lunch not happening
  6. Sit chat talk politics put world to rights might happen but only on zoom
  7. Back home for dinner TV etc still happening
So that's 2 out of 7 and 2 with alterations and 3 not allowed hardly anywhere near normal
Littlebelina · 14/06/2020 08:41

@SockYarn, if zoe tells you to take a test does it also tell you to self isolate? Curious as heard of people with various symptoms (not just the main 3) being told take tests who wouldn't have to isolate under government guidance.

Good morning all. Just checking in fir the shiny new thread.

bookworm14 · 14/06/2020 08:46

Checking in.

The people telling those with lockdown- influenced mental health issues to ‘get a grip’ and ‘stop complaining’ can fuck right off. The ‘be kind’ message didn’t last long, did it?

On distancing in schools, DD (reception) isn’t required to distance at all within her bubble. May be different for year 6 though.

SockYarn · 14/06/2020 08:47

@Littlebelina you don't book the test through the Zoe app, it redirects you to the government site.

I can;t really remember what it said about isolating yourself. But we'd already decided that we'd all stay in the house until my result came in. Because it was so quick, it still meant DD could do out and skateboard with her friend last night.

MinnieMountain · 14/06/2020 08:48

If things were "normal" DS and I could have gone inside his 93yo DGM's flat to hug her instead of sitting in her garden. Her 6 DC ring her lots but she's seen barely anyone since March.

TheGreatWave · 14/06/2020 08:49

If you have not spent this time hatching chicks then quite frankly you should be ashamed of yourself.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/06/2020 08:51

It seems BBC News has dropped its rolling news on the topic

Orangeblossom78 · 14/06/2020 08:54

My Yr 6 DS says they are expected to stay 2 part in the classroom but they don't in the playground really (was back last week)

Orangeblossom78 · 14/06/2020 08:55

Also something about this by a teacher in the Times today, she said they do not tell the children off but just gently distract them, this is because if they draw attention to it the children are likely to do it more

Littlebelina · 14/06/2020 08:56

I think it often starts later and finishes earlier on a weekend orange, think they should drop it on a weekend altogether though.

Thanks sockyarn, was just curious because heard some people being told get tests due to hayfever symptoms and if you are told to isolate for that I think it might put people off using the app (it would me)!

Orangeblossom78 · 14/06/2020 08:59

It was like this yesterday too though (BBC) when it stops they usually just pause it and say we are off now back tomorrow or whatever.

Hopefully this is the new format- perhaps

Drivingdownthe101 · 14/06/2020 09:05

I hope they drop the rolling coverage. They always use the tripe articles like ‘how to socialise in the new normal’ as fillers anyway.

Allflightscancelled · 14/06/2020 09:09

BBC reporting a review of the 2m rule that they hope will be done by 4 July. Sigh. More weeks lost to inaction
