Stay alert, now is not the time to go to Primark

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Flippetydip · 15/06/2020 07:41

Morning all. Thank you for being here and being sane. I've just happened upon a thread (which will frankly serve me right for looking when I should be working) celebrating only 36 deaths from COVID. Cue the whole pile of on of "you are so heartless, how can you be celebrating 36 people dying" "don't be too optimistic, the SECOND WAVE is coming" "now is no time to go to Primark" blah blah blah.

I just want my children back to school.

DH's covid test was against all the odds, negative. No great surprise but such a relief as otherwise his school and the DC's school would have gone into a veritable meltdown. DH spoke to a friend who is a GP yesterday who said the likelihood of DH having it was exceedingly minimal as there were only FOUR CASES in hospital and a very limited number in the community. We living in a city of a quarter of a million people. Surely, we should get back to normality now?!

The whole test experience was very straightforward. Booked online with an ominous warning of "we are experience extremely high demand for tests" to the next page when it said "we have 1356 free slots over the next 5 days in your area" and got a test within the next 30 minutes. Not high volume then......

I just think that this has all been a massive overreaction. I don't agree that furlough should be extended (and I'm on furlough, on full pay), but that money should be used to protect the lost vulnerable and make provisions for them. Let the rest of us get back to normal, the economy started again, and pay some taxes for all this!

AnxiousElephant77 · 15/06/2020 07:42

Most vulnerable, not lost vulnerable Hmm

Dowser · 15/06/2020 07:46

Just asking
Your other half is spot on. We both think the same.
Said to dh yesterday I can’t believe that people who went to Etonian, Harrow, Oxford, Cambridge and other elite places Who are allegedly so much cleverer than I am, have come up this this bubbles rubbish .
I feel embarrassed for them.

Nihiloxica · 15/06/2020 07:51

Good morning.

Stay alert
Stay safe
Stay covered
Stay away
Stay scared
Stay vindictive

This is a new normal.

Human to human connection is suspect.

NothingIsWrong · 15/06/2020 07:52

I thrive on human interaction. This is bullshit

Dowser · 15/06/2020 07:56

Flippety, that’s good news
My DS went to the house of someone who had tested positive for covid at end of May
My son told me yesterday that he passed away.

I’m asking myself, if the man’s wife knew her dh was positive then why was my son invited in.
Why was there no procedure in place . Obviously the chap needed carers. There’s more holes in this story than a colander.
So, I’ll person gets tested positive. Carer visits are stopped and I’ll person goes to a place where he will be cared for properly because apparently another of their clients is still ill in hospital.

It doesn’t make sense does it.

My dil was an icu nurse. She says shielded people are very much at risk because as soon as they come out they will be exposed to everyone’s germs, not just covid.
Sounds feasible. Our immune systems are meant to switch on and off , living in isolation in a germ free environment is not good for us.

BarkandCheese · 15/06/2020 07:56

Good morning all. Furlough needs to be continued for as long as is necessary for those business which can’t right now reopen. Otherwise we risk completely losing our live entertainment and nightclub industries. However if they can reopen and get workers back businesses absolutely need to be doing that.

rookiemere · 15/06/2020 07:59

Based on the "I am a scientist" comment, I find it interesting that this situation is creating a different two tier society from the previous one.

Are you a key worker, and even better a hallowed NHS worker? Yes of course you can have childcare and send your DCs to school as you are doing such an important job for society.

Everyone else - school is not childcare and as a parent the buck stops with you, oh and education is apparently your responsibility as well even if you're working from home as clearly your job is not important.

I actually do have the key worker letter, but for me it's a bit of a joke as I can work from home and tbh the world wouldn't stop turning if my job wasn't done, although my organisation might face some fines for not meeting a regulatory deadline.

I find myself really resentful of anyone whose DC are in school, even though I know it's a job based lottery and they probably aren't receiving much of an education there, but at least they get to spend time with other DCs and their parents aren't being judged on their ability to teach rather than the job they are paid for.

Lickyicelollies · 15/06/2020 07:59

Morning flouters!

Anti dementors say lockdown can just fucking do one now, we're going for chips.
rookiemere · 15/06/2020 08:01

Love it Lickyicelollies . Wish I was brave enough to post it on FB.

Teateaandmoretea · 15/06/2020 08:04

I can’t believe that people who went to Etonian, Harrow, Oxford, Cambridge and other elite places Who are allegedly so much cleverer than I am, have come up this this bubbles rubbish

The problem with academic-types is that they expect to either find an answer in a book or by researching (ie reading enough books) that they can draw a clear conclusion on what to do.

It was pretty much summed up by some shadow minister on BBC this morning going on about the 1m to 2m rule. The government need to be transparent and present the evidence. But there isn’t any evidence, no one knows the impact it will have 🤦🏻‍♀️. The scientists will just say ‘it increases the risk of spread’, well obviously 🙄.

OTOH less academic people (and I include myself here) rely more on common sense rather than finding answers to everything in a book.

rookiemere · 15/06/2020 08:10

Teateaandmoretea also - as has become blindingly obviously during this sorry saga - when the elite are making up their daft rules, they mean for the plebs like us to follow them, they don't believe they need to alter their behaviour in any way because - well they're special.

I'd like to think Boris learnt a lesson after shaking everyone's hands then catching covid, but I suspect the lesson he took from it was that us proles are disease carriers like plague rats or stray dogs.

mightbealittlebitmad · 15/06/2020 08:11

I just don't know how it's come to this. 12 weeks in and people are still ranting and raving about second waves and instant death. Spain are allowed to have groups of 10 in their houses whilst we still can't get within 2m of someone not in our "bubble" It's a total joke and I continue to be amazed at how people can live without human interaction when there isn't an end in sight. Will they still be shaming people in a year for mingling?

I'm a definite murderer today, going into my friends house with my child. There's 5 in her house and 4 in mine so that's 9 lives I'm risking. If I get time and the queue isn't insane I might try murder some people in a non essential shop.

When did people become so terrified of that is essentially a bad cold for the majority and the odds of it not being are probably on par with being hit by a bus?

Drivingdownthe101 · 15/06/2020 08:13

Both DD’s back at school today, woo!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 15/06/2020 08:16

Perhaps “I’m a scientist” is code for “I’ve got a biology a-level and am one of Ferguson’s extra-maritals”? In which case I’d better sign up to match.

I am plain jealous of those whose children are in private schools - and the irony is not lost on me that if I could work, I could earn money... if not enough for schools, at least enough for tutoring. The Scottish curriculum is a bloody joke anyway -
So many clever and articulate teachers thwarted by pish.

Not only are Scottish kids feral, but they’ll soon be naked. No shops for us and my eldest has sensory issues which means he rejected everything I ordered from Asda.

I’ve asked mine to spend an hour reading this morning, one bite size of anything they fancy and some carol vordeman.

MagdaS · 15/06/2020 08:18

My DH is a ‘scientist’ and does risk management for a living. The sort of stuff where if it goes wrong very many people die in quite horrible ways. Even he uses something called ALARP - as low as reasonably possible. Not zero, there’s no such thing.

And the idea for me that offices are finished is really depressing. All those things you mention @NothingIsWrong aren’t happening. Our grads are making the same mistakes because there’s no one around to ask a quick question of.

AnxiousElephant77 · 15/06/2020 08:18

@Bark I don't disagree with you, but we just can't stay like this until there's a vaccine, surely? Maybe I'm wrong. I mean, I'm supposed to be seeing Jason Donovan in concert in November! The blows just keep on coming Grin

Anyway, my mum has just been ranting on the phone to me about some idea that Whitty and Vallance are going to resign if 2m is reduced to 1m? Let them. We need pragmatism here, we can't be held to bloody ransom by them.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 15/06/2020 08:18

teatea I judge harshly those who demand “peer-reviewed papers” for any facet of their life as opposed to analysing the evidence they DO have and making a risk-assessment. Aka using your common fucking sense.

Nihiloxica · 15/06/2020 08:19

There's 5 in her house and 4 in mine so that's 9 lives I'm risking.

It's MILLIONS of lives you are risking!

You are no longer a person in your own right, you are a proxy immune system for the use of others.

Don't be so selfish and do as you are told. This is a fine life. At least you are SAFE.

Freedom From.

Nihiloxica · 15/06/2020 08:22

Even he uses something called ALARP - as low as reasonably possible. Not zero, there’s no such thing.

Oooh, interesting.

"Reasonably" is an important word here.

Teateaandmoretea · 15/06/2020 08:23

I would like to report that I have a grade B for both chemistry and biology A levels 🤓😜

Dowser · 15/06/2020 08:25

I used to love a good browse up the high st
I have no desire to do anything that doesn’t look normal right now
Certainly queueing outside a shop on a cold winters day will not be happening in the Dowser household.
I really feel angry at the stupid senselessness of these rules.
Having to leave our caravan, in the middle of a field, with one other person over the side of it at 8 pm after dinner last night , because it’s the rules.
What or who were we harming. Yet I could get up today and drive back down and do the same thing all week..
It’s stupid, senseless and makes me so angry..

I know people here won’t say this but on dementor threads , you’d get, oh but if you’re ill you’re stressing out local services.
Well if I’m ill, I don’t go for a 45 mile drive..obviously.

This kind of unjoined up thinking makes me feel so angry and maybe is the reason why I wake up on a morning feeling heavy as lead, and slightly depressed

Khione..I’m happy to help. I’ve taken boron ( borax) every day for about a month now.
I don’t have arthritis but I use that to help with bones and joints.
Also look at Robert redfern and serrapeptase. I’ve been taking that for years. It gives joints and blood vessels a good clear out. I used to take it daily but I’m now taking a tablet just three times a week.
Also maybe a 100per cent gluten and dairy free Diet. It’s a year for us next month.
By reducing the inflammation in the diet/ body you stand a good chance of eliminating inflammatory conditions.
I’d also look at a parasite cleanse..dr Hulda Clarke.
We take pumpkin seeds everyday which are a good dewormer.

Cattermole · 15/06/2020 08:25

So we had a lovely weekend with mother murdering people with non-essential shopping and idly wandering round the streets (she walked from her house to ours for tea and medals) and now I come back to find we're channelling the Thunder Song from Ted?
