Nice one bubbles
I had to google 234 months..yes they might be safe at 19 Years old
Hopefully

The question up thread about what age to leave a DC to get their own food etc? Well my DC is 234 months old and I still stay in the room when they're eating. It only takes moment for something to happen after all. But I will start leaving them in the car to pay for fuel when they are 236 months. If I see anyone leaving a 235 month old I will of course report them.

Nihiloxica · 14/06/2020 22:13

660,000 people are predicted to DIE THIS YEAR!!!

Until this carnage is stopped, nobody should be allowed to have fun EVER again.

Khione · 14/06/2020 22:13

@Dowser

Khione..have you looked into the Bach flower system

There’s some fabulous fb groups and a really good app
They are very good and very underrated

Are you well up on nutrients and supplements?
There’s an app called Bach flower, white background with pale green 6 petal daisy that I think is excellent
Dr Bach was way ahead of his time with these
You need to take for about 3 weeks

I haven't tried the flower remedies.

The reason I managed to get of ADs a few years ago was due to getting my thyroid sorted, taking vitamin D3, K2, iron and magnesium. Since then I also buy B12 injections from Germany as one a quarter isn't enough and add folic acid and I've recently added Curcumin to aid with the arthritis that is kicking in.

Khione · 14/06/2020 22:14

off ADs not of

Warn students..threaten more like
Totally disgraceful and shocking

Doesn’t affect grandson till next year.
Why should young people run up £18K of debt for a half assed Course

They need to give their heads a shake

Or the NUS need to do a protest. march

Dowser · 14/06/2020 22:30

Khione
Have you looked at boron for arthritis

Nihiloxica · 14/06/2020 22:32

Charging students full fees for online study is a total pisstake.

The logic seems to be "the universities can't afford to reduce the fees" even while they decimate what they are offering.

It's the same arse about face logic as keeping schools closed until they are "safe" for teachers.

Schools don't exist to employ teachers and universities don't exist to extract money from students.

If you want full fees, open properly next year. If you are worth a shite as a school, do the same.

OH was reflective this evening. He cannot understand how we have come to this. How sane rational people are swallowing all the bullshit being spouted by scientists, politicians to keep us in line and we keep on doing it. The law abiding are being crucified by covid. While the less law abiding are protesting day in day out with no-one coming down on them. When the Home Secretary says deal with the them and the police tell her to mind her own business and stick to her remit. Which apparently does not include the police.

OH has decided the establishment from top to bottom is rotten to the core. They do not care who dies we are just numbers on a chart no longer individuals. Our local council is corrupt, favours exchanged, brown envelopes offered and so it goes on up the chain to the top people around the world who are pulling the strings. No matter where you live now you are irrelevant.

He is really sad about this, having raised children to be honourable and honest, people he thought were as sane as he is behaving like dementors. Someone said earlier is it something that is in the water that makes us obedient.

The average dementor must be devastated that the numbers are dropping. Who will they boss about now?

They dont beleeeeeve it! No need to move on. Its the calm before the apocalypse, more people testef +ve so deaths will rise next week. The huge 2nd wave is definately august because someone read it somewhere. We have to be at 0 deaths before we are safe. Being glad the numbers are dropping is celebrating deaths you callous bastards
Its bloody relentless over on that thread. They will never stop. They are like fecking Uruk-hai !!

NannyPhlegm · 14/06/2020 22:43

@OhFuckOffWithTheBubbleBollocks I agree whole heartedly with your summary of the situation.
I initially supported the lockdown. A short and sharp quarantine has precedence with contagious diseases, it gives time for authorities to get ahead of the disease itself. And the initial slogan "Save the NHS" tied in with that.
But then week after week after week passed by, and the government lurched from one failed measure to the next. And now we are 12 weeks into this mess with no light at the end of the tunnel. They're imposing face masks and quarantine on air passengers NOW, which makes zero sense! No track and trace. NOTHING!

I feel so much for those who are shielding. It must be so difficult, and not made better by the incompetents in charge.

Oh, and "look sideways, not upwards" is my new favourite saying. It's so apt!

PickAChew · 14/06/2020 22:44

I'm not a big fan of Primark but I'm tempted to go, now. That thread was kneejerk mumsnet at its finest. I particularly enjoyed the Sanctimonious post that merely said RIP.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 14/06/2020 22:44

I think it's panic - overseas students pay a lot more in fees and their numbers are going to be way down and there fewer number of 18 year olds and research money from EU is drying up - they have same number of staff and building to pay.

There is talk about many universities going bust. Though you'd think Oxford would have some considerable money reserves.

DH uni is trying to get first years in - but mostly it will be on-line and for his subject it works quite well. I think he'd like to be back at least part of the week for his benefit. Master student number have gone up - which makes sense to me.

TBH though things may still change - as ideas are bouncing up and down managment chains like mad.

DH think fee reduction won't happen as they don't want any suggestion of devaluing degree student end up with for both institutes and students sakes.

Though I'm not sure if ours were 18 if we'd be suggesting delay or not - I initally thought we would as it's not the same however jobs will be harder to get and international travel opportunities look uncertain.

So while our eldest in Y10 is having a shitter educational experince - I think Y13 would be way worse.

TheCatsBlanket · 14/06/2020 22:47

Justasking111 I agree with your OH 100%

justasking111 · 14/06/2020 22:48

DS is going back to uni. second year he has done the freshers thing so not that bothered. He does need studio time though, that will be problematic he did some in his bedroom and could hardly get into his bed at night. Here he has taken over the office and the conservatory to do his modelling.

I would say defer in some cases certainly. My sons course for students outside the EU is 38k per annum, the unis will be hurting that is for sure.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 14/06/2020 22:48

Nice LOTR reference there, Willow! I wonder if they have facemasks with the white hand of Sauron on the front?

I just had an hour's chat with a friend over the phone - she lives far away so we wouldn't normally see each other face to face, so that's fine. And neither one of us suggested a video call so guessing we both feel the same about those (fuck off I don't fucking want to see my face the whole time. Or anyone elses!) Felt good to have a decent chat, mostly about relationship issues instead of coronanonanonanona.

Someone said earlier is it something that is in the water that makes us obedient.

Pretty sure there's some high ranking Nazi who said something along lines of all you need to do to get population on side is scare them.

PickAChew · 14/06/2020 22:53

Arthritis, menopause and fungal toenails. Better not let DH see that post or he'll be buying me borax for our wedding anniversary!

Though he's currently spark out on the sofa, beside me, which is pretty usual. Surprised he's not in bed. I had to go full on bossy on him and order him to come in and eat his dinner after he got hangry, trying to mount a support beam, still wet with creocoat, for the decking, onto 8 anchors on the wall, this evening.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 14/06/2020 22:55

I would say defer in some cases certainly.

I think lab work or needing any time with specialist equipment I think defering can make sense.

Certainly I be asking questions as not all courses in DH department or lecturers have handled this situation well - I'd really want to know what was on offer - unfortunately they may not know yet as many are still working this out.

justasking111 · 14/06/2020 22:55

Society has been reset I think, cash discouraged/refused HMRC win. Social distancing meaning the price of products already increased in foodstuffs will mean other items will go up in price certainly. Customs and excise win. Our taste for shopping will lessen anyway with queuing. Our councils have not had to cut grass, clean loos etc for 3 months, our bins collected once a month. Council win. Our school buildings almost empty saving on overheads council win.

The losers, women, jobs in the private sector. The winners men in the public sector.

track and trace scares me. To get that phone call demanding I isolate for 14 days is not something I like. It is open to abuse for one thing.

justasking111 · 14/06/2020 22:59

My friends sons doing medicine one first year one second year student, they both finished completely in March. Both got an automatic pass to move forward to their 2nd and 3rd year with no exams. I have no idea what other courses have done this certainly not DS he has done four projects since he got home and was expected to complete them, 3 of them marked just waiting to hear on the 4th one.

Nihiloxica · 14/06/2020 23:02

A short and sharp quarantine has precedence with contagious diseases

A full lockdown of society does not have any precedent as a means of infectious disease control.

This had never been tried before. It is an extreme measure and nobody knows how effective it will be, or has been.

Quarantine has been used to isolate people at high risk of infection, not to close down economies, transport systems, and all social contact.

We need to be clear about how radical this is. Particularly given the level of risk.

PickAChew · 14/06/2020 23:05

Yeah, I can't see online working well for sciences. I had up to 9 hours a week of lab time when I did my Chemistry degree, increasing to 2 full days in final year.

The problem with the government introduced fees, they also slashed financial support, eventually making unis almost completely dependent on fees, which is why not many went for less than the maximum 9000. I know some of the mumsnet snobbery only cares about oxbridge and redbrick, sorry, Russell group unis, but the smaller unis and ex polys (still think of them as that, over 30 years on!) provide a valuable range of courses. Newcastle uni is literally next door to Northumbria and they do collaborate a lot in research - the undergrad teaching tends to financially support this role.

NannyPhlegm · 14/06/2020 23:08

I agree Nihiloxica.
I should have said that quarantine of clusters has precedence. I know, because the city I lived in then had quarantine measures in the mid 90s (not in UK). But it was localised, and the economy of the city was not paralysed. It mainly consisted of closing down the border to contain the problem and isolating clusters as they were found, with lots of testing.

As you rightly point out, this current situation is extreme and unprecedented
