Old posters you sometimes think of

selfishteenagers · 13/06/2020 22:00

I was wondering today about a few old posters that either left or I haven’t seen in ages
Riven , eatshitderek (i think that’s what the username was) and another one I can’t remember the full name ghost something who was in temp accommodation I think ?
Does anyone else ever wonder about posters they dont see anymore

OP posts:
ajandjjmum · 15/06/2020 13:06

I wonder how Yorkiegirl is doing - is she still around? Think her DH died suddenly when they were on holiday, and a number of posters were so kind to her. Makes me feel so nostalgic for the 'old' MN.

ShinyFootball · 15/06/2020 13:07

Bonsoir once said why should she have to look at ugly people which was a bit of a low.

I can't remember what the topic was.

nibdedibble · 15/06/2020 13:12

@humphriescushion It was a name that definitely began with Humphrey, -ey spelling. I wish I could remember!

I have just remembered this though, as someone mentioned her username, but I met a poster who had a distinctive background...then last year the Guardian had a weird photo essay about vulvas, and there was hers! It had to be her, all the details matched. In her story I mean, I never saw her vulva irl Grin

Enderthedragon · 15/06/2020 13:32

I thought the lemon drizzle and preg cousin sagas were really tedious. But everyone thought they were great.

Yeah lemon drizzle wasn't that funny in the end, everyone saying 'punch the cake' endlessly etc. But the opening few pages were Grin

WinnieWonder · 15/06/2020 13:39

Oh Bonsoir! I remember reeling at a few of her gems

HoneyDragon · 15/06/2020 14:22

The NYE shutdown occurred when I think, UsualSuspect, started a tongue in cheek thread and it got reported with people saying silly threads weren’t on. So everyone started posting ridiculous threads and poor newbie JulieMN who’d been left in charge of a load of drunken mnetters said if we didn’t stop it she’d shut the site and did. Expect it didn’t entirely work when everyone discovered a backdoor and kept playing silly buggers so then the bannings started. And then Justine had to shout at everyone on New Years Day. Good times. Also led to loads of spin off groups and I got to know a lot more Mners in real life as a result.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 15/06/2020 14:29

Catthiefkeith she was brilliant. I was reading some old threads yesterday (sometimes I pop in key words and read older threads) and she was on there in 2015. It was quite sad to think she’s gone now. I hope she is somewhere better now.

ArriettyJones · 15/06/2020 14:29

We'd know if Scottish Mummy was about under a name change .

Creepy wee brackets, as she called them. Grin

IwishIhadaMargarita · 15/06/2020 14:30

@HoneyDragon I wasn’t on on NYE and was gutted when I saw I missed it all. I’ve name changed recently.

Sparklingbrook · 15/06/2020 14:32

I miss the days of posting and seeing certain people's names appear on the thread and thinking 'yay'! That is very much frowned upon now, and happens rarely anyway due to all the namechanging.

ArriettyJones · 15/06/2020 14:33

@selfishteenagers

Yes biscuitsandbandages ☹️ I often think of her too
I wonder how her DH and the crumbs are getting on now. It must have been about three years and her DD was only a baby.
FatalSecrets · 15/06/2020 14:47

Pengwyyn (probably completely misspelled that) but I remember her name for some reason (nothing nefarious, just the name amused me I think!)

Pleased to see LRD's newest incarnation.

What happened to DawnDonna?

ItsInTheShed · 15/06/2020 14:51

i think the wilted rose thread was about a rug (red rug?). i joined once it had started

my first thread on here was on the twins thread....poster had twins but was later outed. there was forever after a few raised eyebrows when someone new joined and had or was expecting, twins! cannot remember the posters name for the life of me but i was so shocked to find it all lies

7ofNine · 15/06/2020 14:59

No, red rug was well before twr, it was titania.

tiktok · 15/06/2020 14:59

@ValiaH thanks for remembering! I don’t post much on breastfeeding these days but I am still around 😀

Samcro · 15/06/2020 15:00

i remember the poster who used to use mn as their bank.
the meet ups were fun, loved getting drunk with Custardo.

ValiaH · 15/06/2020 15:11

@tiktok Your posts genuinely kept me going when I thought I might give up, it was so reassuring to know that what I was going through was normal, you really encouraged me to persevere! 8 years later, baby no 3 is a toddler and still being bf, so thank you! I was too much of a shy lurker to post questions at the time. Glad you're still around!

IrmaFayLear · 15/06/2020 15:15

I have been on here since 2004, but I’m not famous.

It was awfully cliquey back then, and it was dispiriting if you made a good point and it was ignored yet three posts later a known poster said exactly the same thing and everyone was congratulating them.

There was also the silly giggling over male posters. The latter must have felt like roosters strutting round a henhouse.

There‘s too much reporting and banning now. I’m not advocating an abuse free-for-all, but it seems lately as if disagreeing with someone constitutes a good enough reason to report.

Like pps, I seem a bit old for MN (posters seem to have pils in their 50s who definitely have dementia) but I’m aeons away from being a gran even though I do like a comfy sandal.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 15/06/2020 15:18

Ender manshape was Deemented or something that began with Dee

CathyorClaire · 15/06/2020 15:21

@DameXanaduBramble

Laqueen was hilarious! I always think this was her place to be who she really wanted to be. Nobody could be that bad irl.

I was thinking about another forum of old the other day and a woman called CarolAnn who caused all sorts of trouble, does anyone remember?

Reading PM's because she had a set of mod keys to abuse and posting screenshots from a private forum onto another forum where the targets would see?

Oh, yes.

SarahAndQuack · 15/06/2020 15:23

I remember your name, @irmafaylear. I wasn't around in 2004 but think there's always been a bit of 'OMG, a man! Tell me about plumbing and cars, please!'

Trying2bemum · 15/06/2020 15:24

Hi @DeborahAlisonphillipa I was @londonjam Smile so sweet of you to think of me. How are you?

Our third IVF round worked (4th if you count a FET that also failed) and we now have Ted who is 10 months old. He is the sunshine of my life and I can’t believe my luck that we have him Star

Our marriage suffered badly from years of infertility and mental health issues. We are still trying to pick up the pieces.

I’m still in touch with a very supportive group of women who I went through conception then infertility boards with! I have a lot to thank mumsnet for Flowers

looselegs · 15/06/2020 15:25

Atyourcervix
The only username I ever remember!

CathyorClaire · 15/06/2020 15:25

@Dominicgoings

Sassysusan had an incredibly authentic blog as well I think?

Was the poster on another forum who was a tube driver but also supposedly lost a baby also exposed as a troll on here? The original forum she was on folded-can’t remember the name of it but remember the layout!

Hunnybeez?
EmpressLangClegInChair · 15/06/2020 15:33
