Foods you’ve never tried .... Silly lighthearted thread!

Recently I happened to mention to a colleague the fact I’d never tried Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. He seemed totally amazed and I felt like a bit of a weirdo, more than normal anyway! So I promptly went out the next day and bought some and loved the two flavours I tried, I am a new convert and will be trying all the other flavours now, bang goes the diet!
So it got me thinking about other foods and drinks I’ve never tried that are pretty mainstream but I’ve never had. Some examples:

  • Tea and coffee - Yes I know! But i’m not keen on hot drinks and just couldn’t bring myself to try drinking them.
  • Olives - Strange as I like olive oil but just never thought of trying actual olives!
  • Squid and that kind of thing - Just can’t even think about eating this!
  • Fresh tomatoes - I just don’t like the smell and look of them! I’m perfectly fine with cooked tomatoes in a pasta sauce or tomato purée on a pizza base and that kind of thing.

How about you? Am I the only one who has led a somewhat sheltered life in more ways than one?!

Avocado

Takingabreakagain · 13/06/2020 21:09

I've never tried avocado - yet I still haven't managed to save a pile of money not having avocado on toast Grin

Sparklfairy · 13/06/2020 21:10

Escargot was like eating mushrooms that had been steeped in sand Grin

Until recently I had never tried avocado. Was like chewing butter Hmm

I've never had sushi. In fact I'd like to make a friend who is a connoisseur of Japanese and Thai food (which I also have limited experience of) to go to restaurants with because I just get overwhelmed with the menu even though I'm an adventurous sort Grin

Tripe, brains, most offal to be honest. The thought horrifies me.

I do love an oyster though!

CatBatCat · 13/06/2020 21:13

Kefir. Not that I wouldn't want to try it. I just have never had the opportunity to try it. Maybe I'll pick some up next time I see it.

happytoday73 · 13/06/2020 21:14

Agree with others... Porridge,
cottage cheese
Tripe
Oysters
Sushi
It's all a texture thing with me..

Tonz · 13/06/2020 21:14

Marmalade. My mum loves It but I just can't try it. I have no idea why I just cant

Mnthrowaway20202 · 13/06/2020 21:16

Lobster

To be honest most fish & seafood. I can just about tolerate salmon. Tried calamari for the first time and it was too fishy/rubbery for me

Helpthefrizz · 13/06/2020 21:17

Haggis

Pork Chops (spot a theme lol?)

Chicken Livers
Trout

Thelnebriati · 13/06/2020 21:20

Tripe, oysters, whelks, squid, cuttlefish, octopus and escargot.

I tried brains, they were like blood flavoured blancmange.
Horsemeat is meh. Its got the texture of beef with half the taste.
Frog legs are nice, like chicken that tastes of fish.

AgeLikeWine · 13/06/2020 21:21

@ginginchinchin

Turkey because it's just too ugly! Cheese because it's just wrong
You really haven’t missed much. Turkey is my least-favourite meat. It’s dry, tasteless and I eat it once a year, at most.
jamandtonic · 13/06/2020 21:22

Whelks
Jellied eels
Okra

Dana9876 · 13/06/2020 21:27

I think Ive tried most things - octopus, shark, seafood vegetables like dulse, carageen moss, liver, kidney, bone broth, crayfish, l’escargot, rabbit 🤦‍♀️

Mostly all the above on holidays or with friends from abroad. I love trying new foods, although Im following a mostly meat free diet these days for my own reasons.

But I have never ever tried COFFEE , and never plan to either, I dislike the smell of it . Finito. 😆

CherrySpritz · 13/06/2020 21:30

How has someone not tried CHEESE!!! Have you never had a pizza either?

EastMidsMumOf1 · 13/06/2020 21:40

Escargot, goats cheese, odri (stomach lining of sheep/cow) the smell reminds me of tripe that we used to feed the dogs when I was a kid!
