I'm about 35 mins away from Cardiff but can I join the club?

HesterShaw1 · 13/06/2020 13:30

I'm from round there originally too!

Hobnobswantshernameback · 13/06/2020 13:34

Joes ice cream has reopened as has the cafes in Bute park
And my local does takeaway
Come to Cardiff for some food fuelled anti dementoring

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 13/06/2020 13:37

I'm still reading though the last two threads to catch up - but just in case it's not been mention

www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales-news/r-coronavirus-wales-uk-spread-18406977
The r rate in Wales is the fasted dropping in uk - between 0.5 and 0.8 - with a most likely mid point of 0.7 as of May 29 is number of case to half every week.

On other note while still waiting to hear from the schools - all the secondary teachers have now set some actual work- been a flurry of it all at once. Kids are less pleased but it does feel like progess to me.

ThatLibraryMiss - I know wales is coming off bad in all this but we've been very impressed since moving here - people are polite helpful we have a really nice house- we've been glad of garden green walks and space indoors.

Schooling - I think it's same as England pick best you can - welsh bac subject is a pain at GCSE sounds simailar at A-level and Welsh is complusary till GCSE - which I do understand and expected.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 13/06/2020 13:39

@glotterbug - please do! By the way Tredegar Park is open but just the basic park!

DH has gone off to collect FiL - he’s in our bubble now (or are we in his?). Looking forward to DS seeing his grandad and being able to hold his hand again. Crazy that this should feel like such a huge deal!

Allflightscancelled · 13/06/2020 13:44

Belated thank you very much for the colloidal recipe @Dowser!

HesterShaw1 · 13/06/2020 13:46

This bloody rain :(

NannyPhlegm · 13/06/2020 13:47

I live close to Joe's and I cried in relief when it opened. That part of town is my favourite and seeing the shuttered shops has been soul crushing

justasking111 · 13/06/2020 13:47

Feeling down. DILs were softening we were allowed to see grand kids for the last couple of weeks. But now they are sharing a nanny so we are kind of not wanted, left on door step to protect the families/nanny bubble. It does hurt.

ThatLibraryMiss · 13/06/2020 13:52

So, where’s good for a UK holiday? I’d usually go to Whitby for a break but I’ll be damned if they get my money any time soon, same for the Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District, Wales and Scotland are clearly out and the SW and south coast doesn’t want anything from the rest of the UK except money. Can we have a list of places that will welcome sensible visitors who will boost the local economy and do not plan to lick the doorknobs?

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 13/06/2020 13:53

Keeping families apart is so sad. I see my parents every week but DH’s need an overnight stop. I don’t know when we can see them but we’re heading up when we can.

Norfolk?
SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 13/06/2020 13:59

Oh, just, I feel for you. It might be that as they are employing the nanny they feel that they have to do things more strictly because they're an employer and could be held liable if the nanny picked up anything though?

Allflightscancelled · 13/06/2020 14:00

Been setting up DDs little party all morning, on a piece of garden we have that is separated from the rest of the garden by a track to everyone's garages. They call it a jitty round these parts. Anyway the garden seats all look very socially distanced although that's more to do with them being a safe distance from the fire pit, but it looks responsible. I'm hoping none of the neighbours look too closely into the tent arrangement for sleeping later because that's what i'd call snug.

We do have one neighbour who likes to stir up trouble if he can so he may dob us in, either about that or about the vodka. But they're 17 (did not until next week, admittedly) and they've been in for 12 weeks. 12 weeks!!!

I think DH was worried so he's retreated to his mum's so I can face the music alone 😳

Teateaandmoretea · 13/06/2020 14:00

Northumberland, but don’t tell too many people Wink

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 13/06/2020 14:03

@ThatLibraryMiss the North York Moors have been sensible throughout, I think. There's some gorgeous scenery and the coast above Whitby is beautiful. We went a couple of weeks ago to a tiny little place we've never been to before (Runswick Bay) and the car park was open, made free to avoid people having to touch the meter, the toilets were open, the beach was lovely. No dementors in sight. We're planning on trying to camp nearby if campsites open up later in the summer.

Teateaandmoretea · 13/06/2020 14:06

I was thinking of going to the moors. Have a wales trip booked for mid-August, I haven’t given up on that either. They will calm down before then I reckon Smile

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 13/06/2020 14:09

@teatea if we haven’t I’ll be asking for refuge!

There seems to be a bit of an insurrection going on amongst Scottish parents now. Hooray!

Laniakea · 13/06/2020 14:10

a few years ago we went to Suffolk, around Aldeburgh & had a wonderful time - I think that's where we'll be looking in the future.

Most years we've had at least a week on the Llŷn Peninsula, I love it there pretty much more than anywhere but I'm not in a hurry to go back atm Sad

I was brought up (though not born!) in the West country, I have very mixed feelings about. It's undoubtedly beautiful & I wanted my children to know it a bit but this has reminded me why I was so desperate to leave at 18!

Allflightscancelled · 13/06/2020 14:16

Suffolk is very lovely 😍

MooChops89 · 13/06/2020 14:46

We (DH, toddler DD and I) have been up to New Brighton today for a wander, we sat on the beach, got some chips and some ice cream and it felt so 'normal', defo think it's helped our mental wellbeing! Fairly quiet when we got there, got busier as we were leaving and aside from the queues for the shops there wasn't much social distancing going on! Had to queue for Morrisons as they have the only available toilets in the whole area Hmm
PIL are coming round to sit in our garden shortly too!
I'm sure the daily briefing will bring my mood down later though!

You could take your life in your hands and do city breaks - would depend on attaractions opening back up though

York is lovely, I've heard Hull is good - Liverpool - could do midlands - shakespear country or castles like Warwick, Kenilworth.

Othewise it does sort of leave Norfolk - I know I've been as a child just don't remember it at all though my parents thought it nice.
