Well, if we're going conspiracy theory - he's died and they've kept it secret because a state funeral is a bit tricky just now. She got covid and was so unwell she had to have her hand amputated, thus the photoshop.

Why are people saying it must have been 'just anyone' ie not a professional taking a photo on their iphone. Of course they could get a photographer in and easily social distance. Kate and William had photographs taken of them hard at work in their office :). Neighbours on my road celebrated a significant birthday during lockdown and managed to hire a photographer to take photos while socially distancing (they were sitting on chairs in their garden). The Queen and Philip live separately. They obviously had to choose between just releasing a relatively recent photo of Philip on his own or have themselves superimposed together. They should have chosen the former option. I don't suppose anyone will tell them though if they asked for a photo of the two of them to be released that it looks silly. The 'men in grey?' probably assured them it looked lovely.

How weird. I don’t see photoshop. What I do see is the effects of a photographic light, perhaps a reflector - whatever they’ve got available in lockdown - which is being used to illuminate them from the front due to the sun being behind them. It’s in a weird place, making sharp shadows on parts of them. The background has been blurred, usually by the camera settings. 🤷‍♀️

There are definite white lines around Philip ‘s shoulders and black lines around the Queen’s hands.

They look like cardboard cutouts, the lighting of them v.s. background is all wrong. This would be a classic on InstagramReality.

Why would they bother to hide it if he had died? He's 99, so we're hardly going to be shocked! And obviously his body could be stored for months if a funeral's not possible right now - only the family would be upset/inconvenienced by that, and they'd already know if he were dead.

Yeah looks photoshopped. I think he is probably too unwell for a photo op so they have used an old one rather than admit it. Probably trying to keep morale up or something but really, he's 99 it's hardly surprising.

I would hope that if they had photoshopped it then they would have made an effort to make PP look at least well.

Since 23 March the Queen has ruled our nation from the comfort of her slanket while Prince Philip has favoured a silk dressing down with optional underpants for state occasions.

Of course they have to photoshop some clothes in!

Wherever it is it's an awful picture they both like they'd rather be anywhere else. There is something strange about the photo though.They do usually live separately but have been together in lockdown so you'd have thought they could get a decent photo together.

They are both really old, so if they were too sick to pose for a photo, surely they'd just say so.

There are a million reasons they might have photoshopped it. Obviously, they can't send in a pro photographer at the moment, so it was probably just a crappy photo taken by staff that they cleaned up a bit.

I was convinced he died weeks ago and that they were just keeping it a secret for integrity of the royal family arguments and covid-19 atm

How do pp say with such authority that they live separately? I've never given any thought to the royal family, but this is interesting.
Don't they have so many engagements together to make it almost impossible to live apart? Pre Covid / pre illness of course.
