@MzHz

Have been reading today about the suspicion that the virus was in china in August, became more prevalent in October and then started to spread globally. this ties in with the suspicious illnesses November - Jan.

A Consultant friend of the family said the virus has been in the UK since November, and that its mutated since then.

So I'm wondering actually if this stuff we are going through now is actually the 2nd wave...

I think it is the 2nd wave. I’ve never seen DH so ill as last December. I packed him off to the doctors twice as I was so concerned he was developing pneumonia.

Useful website here.

It really is, thank you! We’ve had 41 new cases here in the last two weeks that were reported. For this we are keeping 348,312 people locked down.

41 in 348,312 is 0.0118%, or 1 person in 8,495. These are people who have tested positive, not just those who are acutely ill or dying.

@ThatLibraryMiss Funnily enough I've just been looking at the oral b junior ones. They're half price in Boots at the moment.

Did anybody see that cgi virus added to a video of oxford on the bbc app this morning? It was showing 'virus' bouncing about the empty streets looking for someone to infect. It was quite odd. I don't know how to link but if you type 'cgi virus bbc' into google it comes up near the top.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/06/2020 16:08

My DD’s both have the oral B electric junior toothbrushes.

ThatLibraryMiss · 10/06/2020 16:15

@akingcupcakes, electric toothbrushes always seem to be half-price somewhere. If not Boots try Superdrug.

This has been my view for weeks now with all the nuggets of info coming out. Plus we live in an area Where there's a high volume of people going to and from China.

I was so unwell in December, identical symptoms to CV, so was dh and dd, ds nothing.

On any threads where we discuss this possibility we have been shouted down for weeks by some that flatly refuse to even considered it might be possible.

I'll be doing a very childish tongue poking out face if it turns out to be right.

NothingIsWrong · 10/06/2020 16:16

@bakingcupcakes especially when you consider there hasn't been a death reported in either of the Oxfordshire trusts since 21st May and no new confirmed cases in the last 5 days... The virus most certainly not bouncing around at all

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/06/2020 16:35

DO NOT ENGAGE WITH SCHOOL DEMENTORS. Note to self.

D'you find them ok?

I'm convinced this virus has been doing the rounds long before this year. Back in january about a quarter of my work came down with something that had covid symptoms. Some of them were quite bad for a couple of weeks. No one hospitalised or anything but quite a few off work. No ones ever off in our work because we only get ssp so as a rule people tend to be pretty close to death before they consider taking the pay hit and not going in!

It'll be interesting to see how the sickness policies change going forward as so many places have sanctions in place over sickness. The last place I worked you could only have 3 instances of sickness over a rolling 24 month period before you'd be called in which I think is quite harsh really. I had an excellent sick record until I had DS then it all went to shit. We've improved dramatically since he turned 3 but before that we caught everything going.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/06/2020 16:41

bakingcupcakes yes they’re great. We have a ‘subscribe and save’ on amazon for replacement heads which works out cheaper.

countrygirl99 · 10/06/2020 16:41

I need a lie down in a darkened room. I just liked a post by a very right wing acquaintance. I don't think we have ever agreed about anything before! This bug is making very strange bedfellows.

HairyFloppins · 10/06/2020 16:47

Well my flights with Norwegian have been cancelled for August. I had a tiny bit of hope for my holiday.

This wouldn't surprise me at all. The amount of people I knew poorly with chest infections and a few with pneumonia around December/January would make it feasible. I remember thinking how weird it was.

Willitneverend · 10/06/2020 17:04

Dh and I also had a terrible bug in late December. We got it from a work colleague, then my family got it all too. DH, I and work colleague all had terrible coughs.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/06/2020 17:05

I've commented a few weeks ago about DS, but he was hit hard by what seemed like a hard cold in December and wiped out for ages after and not really back to full power for 2-3 months. Checked on him to find him in a puddle of sweat that I first thought was wee. Was ill, rallied, and ill again.

I'm not saying it was Covid, but whatever it was hit him unusually hard and he's never missed multiple days off school other than the 48hr rule.

sprinklesone · 10/06/2020 17:13

Where do you all lie politically out of interest?

Thighmageddon · 10/06/2020 17:14

I've been in a political wilderness for ages now.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/06/2020 17:14

@sprinklesone

Left wing.
rosettesforjill · 10/06/2020 17:16

Centre left for me Smile

Cattermole · 10/06/2020 17:16

Just as a matter of....uhhhh.... Boris says sex is now OK between none-cohabiting households.
So.... listening for the whoops of joy

Pleasedontdothat · 10/06/2020 17:16

@sprinklesone

@sprinklesone always voted labour in general elections (although I was not impressed with Corbyn), occasionally flirted with the Green Party in local/European elections, staunch remainer
Teateaandmoretea · 10/06/2020 17:17

I’m totally central

sprinklesone · 10/06/2020 17:19

Me too @teateaandmoretea

Librarybooksandacoconut · 10/06/2020 17:21

Left of centre (occasionally into socialist territory when I’m outraged), remainer, usually vote Labour but did tactically vote SNP in the last election.

Drivingdownthe101 · 10/06/2020 17:24

The new rule on the bubble is a game changer for us... my mum lives alone round the corner. She used to have my DC every Saturday but hasn’t since this all started. She’s generally a pretty big help to us normally. So happy!
