Totally reminded me of this:

We need to dub a covid version on this... Hmm

Dowser · 10/06/2020 10:47

Bog roll...just for the record my two houses were struck by lightening..within 6 months of one another...😂

AnxiousElephant77 · 10/06/2020 10:48

I need more, Boris. I need more.

Nihiloxica · 10/06/2020 10:48

@Dowser

The question you need to ask yourself is Who will be in your life for the rest of your life. Villagers? Daughter?

There’s your answer.

Oh, yes. Good point, Dowser
HauntedGoatFart · 10/06/2020 10:49

Should I make her a martyr, play by the rules and order the 'Lockdown Birthday' badge, or invite her friends and to hell with the haters?

Invite the friends.

The neighbours can't do a damned thing about it, and there's a rapidly increasing chance that they are longing to know who else is done with this shit and simply don't dare to raise the antiDementor Beacon themselves. Do it.

Teateaandmoretea · 10/06/2020 10:53

@BogRollBOGOF

What’s interesting is how many HCPs are actually anti-dementors. They are hunting the dementors out and making their opinion more important than everyone else’s because they work in the NHS. Conversely if you don’t like working with sick people maybe being a nurse isn’t the right job for you .....

mylittleyumyum · 10/06/2020 10:54

I can't express how glad I am to have found you all :)

I've been a good little citizen, following the arrows, not travelling etc, but it's been through Fear of Being Caught more than anything else.

We've been seeing my best friend and daughter since the beginning - and began seeing family last week. The whole thing was a handy excuse to distance myself from the in-laws for a while.

My car has been off the road for a few weeks due to a mechanical issue I couldn't afford to have fixed, it's in the garage just now. As soon as it is out I NEED to get myself to the coast. This is the longest I have been in my life without seeing the sea.

The pull is strong....

I hoped the BBC had moved on from those shaming type articles.

they even had one about 'lockdown rule breakers' the other day which was quite funny and not shaming and I thought the tide was changing.

Just ventured elsewhere on MN... We have 'hard of thinking' and 'I despair' coming up again. Nice. Especially in the context of people concerned about children. Because being concerned about your young isn't a natural and understandable instinct, especially among mammals; it's actually just a different and more offensive way of saying that you actively want the old and vulnerable to die, especially of Covid (you're allowed not to care if they die of other stuff of course, because only Covid matters, and you're actively encouraged not to care if people who aren't vulnerable die. Because if you're not vulnerable to Covid you don't matter either. Especially if you're a child. Or something) ffs.
Sorry. Rant over.

countrygirl99 · 10/06/2020 11:03

drearywallantler you get them in process design too. Moan like mad that something is a major issue, then when you look into it it there was a problem once, 5 years ago and the process was changed then to stop it happening again.

Dowser · 10/06/2020 11:05

I had a lady phone up to do a business enquiry this morning and she wanted to book me soon before the visitors all come flocking. They're on their way, she said grimly. They'll be flocking down here again.

Good I said, I'm broke.

There was a slightly surprised silence.

FFS what does she expect? I work in tourism.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 10/06/2020 11:12

I think of it as the Cult Of COVID! There is nothing else, no other considerations, no past, no future as long as a virus with a tiny chance of really affecting us exists. Don’t question, don’t think or you’ll offend COVID Gods and we’re all DOOMED, I tell you DOOMED.

David Blunkett has written a great article in the Mail about how schools need a lot of thought and money because children are being let down at present. It is such a sensible article.

I just wanted to check in and wave at everyone. Still so grateful for this thread. I went to see some friends last night - they are my parents age and their garden is looking amazing at the moment so they have been inviting different people over to share it and have a drink outdoors. They are generally sensible, clever people so given they were inviting people over, I thought they would be sensible about the virus.

I was sat there for an hour being told life would never be the same again, holidays would never happen again, the vaccine wouldn't work, there is going to be a second spike soon, the redundancies are going to be dreadful. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO DIE. My head was spinning. I thought of you all and instead of spiralling to a dreadful place I remembered all the positive articles and sense you've shared so thank you. It would otherwise have left me feeling hopeless to be honest and I don't need that right now. Still, I think all the colour drained out of my face and I got to a point where I had to leave.

Teateaandmoretea · 10/06/2020 11:17

@Drivingdownthe101 me too.

We’re going to DIE Shock

On the subject of that BBC nurse article (which royally pissed me off too)... my mum is a recently retired nurse. I love nurses, I also worked for the NHS for a time and worked on all sorts of wards and with all sorts of HCPs. But it has to be remembered that they see the worst case scenarios all the time in their working lives. Mum worked with many older people at the end of their lives, who very often were confused or had full blown dementia, and she would often say how she didn’t want that to happen to her as though it was a given that all elderly people end up in such a state. I would always remind her that by definition she was seeing the worst cases, and that many people remain independent for years and years, and don’t end up with dementia or other nasty conditions. She just never saw them, because they didn’t need her help. It’s not necessarily a profession that lends itself to keeping things in perspective, and even more so if you’re stuck in a hotel room away from home and seeing only the very sickest people on your ward.

Just back from dropping DS off at preschool - I haven’t been into the building but I could see through the door today and what I could see looked spartan Sad Not that DS minded, he charges off like a dog after a rabbit! He’s so happy to be back there. Had a nice chat with one of his teachers about the situation (I believe she’s a closet anti-Dementor) and then went for a run in the woods. Met a few hardcore dog walkers (it’s tipping it down) but there was no diving into any hedges or anything like that. It almost felt... normal.
