I'm desperately searching for a nice pure pale gray for my hallway and landing, no blue/purple tones which the testers seem to have. I need to get it by Thursday so any help/photos would be much appreciated. Price range around dulux rather than f&b.

Have a look at Gooedown or Shadow Chic. Both by Dulux.

We had shadow chic in our last house and it was very grey, no purpley undertones

Tigger03 · 09/06/2020 12:51

Not a great photo sorry - but shadow chic

Cosy grey from Wilkos is a lovely 'proper' grey.
Also 3rding Chic Shadow!

FedUpofLockdown123 · 09/06/2020 12:57

Wilko Cosy Grey. I have it in my living room and just done my hall and landing with it at the weekend. I have Artex walls in the hall though so photo may not do it much justice.

Photos don't actually show the true colour😖.

dreamingofholiday · 09/06/2020 13:00

There lovely colours, but not sure if they'd be too dark for a hallway/landing. What do you think?

Crown do some nice shades of grey. I’ve just purchased Crown- granite dust I haven’t used it yet though.

Freshly painted just last week - this is B&Q's own brand. Melville matt. It's really light and airy and only one coat needed!

I second Dulux Chic Shadow. Also Empire Grey by Zoffany, but that's in F&B price range.

Irishprincess · 09/06/2020 13:18

johnstones paint ammonite

It looks a bit darker in the photo it's actually quite light

Made a list of testers so far!

@irishprincess I really like that and heard Johnstone's is good, I've googled it but can't find it, do you have a link or know where I could get it?

If you want really really light rock salt is borderline white with a hint of grey. Other than that it’s another vote for goose down.

nodtik · 09/06/2020 13:26

B&Q Light Rain - definitely just a light grey!! Xx

dreamingofholiday · 09/06/2020 13:31

Goosedown looks lovely. I've spent a small fortune on samples so far but DP would hate me if we pay to get it painted and then I complain I don't like it!

I have chic shadow in my hallway. I don't find it dark and I like the way it contrasts with the white gloss work.

I'm in Ireland and the Dulux colours have different names here. I've used Calm Cloud in a couple of rooms and it's a beautiful, soft, pale, true grey which changes colour depending on the light. It's neither blue nor purple in undertone, and it seems to pick up the colour of what's around it. I love it. I've had a look on the Dulux UK site and there's a shade called Calm Clouds which sounds like it might be the equivalent.

bluetongue · 09/06/2020 13:38

Get all the testers you can! So many colours that looked great on the test cards turned out wildly different once on my walls.

Remember the colour the paint appears on your walls will vary greatly from house to house. My place doesn’t have much natural white so went for a grey that is actually in the ‘white’ section of colours. The colour is Dulux, grey reflection but I think that’s not a colour you can get in the UK. I’m in Australia.

In a different house it would just look off / dirty white. Paired with bright, white trim it’s perfect in my place.

Irishprincess · 09/06/2020 13:39

@dreamingofholiday
I'm actually not sure if it was called Ammonite by a different brand and he had a Johnstone's trade centre make up the same colour. This is the code which may help, they could possibly do a sample. We used one before called Sleeping inn and it definitely had purple/blue undertones

Natural light, not natural white ...

If it weren't for FB blue, you'd think your screen had gone mono.
