I'm desperately searching for a nice pure pale gray for my hallway and landing, no blue/purple tones which the testers seem to have. I need to get it by Thursday so any help/photos would be much appreciated. Price range around dulux rather than f&b.

I had put it out of my mind until I'd finished other things...but you've got me looking again Confused Too many greys and none of them have been good in my lounge (they all go beige with the light in here!) need to order more testers!!

Good luck with yours.

Will look in the cupboard for the name and brand if it interests you.

The main wall in the pics is Farrow & Ball Ammonite, the chimney breast is F&B Purbeck Stone, both in the F&B Estate Emulsion. The room is south facing but I have the blinds down and it's gloomy here today.

I've used B&Q's Valspar colour match of Ammonite in another room and it is a good match.

Goose down is definitely blue.

My go-to is a dulux discontinued colour called muted stone. You can get it mixed in store still (not sure if they are still doing this option atm ?) no idea why they stopped selling it in tins it’s perfect !

dreamingofholiday · 09/06/2020 18:02

@Astillbe that looks stunning! As is your deco 😍 is the second pic the valspar match?

@dreamingofholiday thank you, both those pics are the same room in F&B. The attached pics are the Valspar colour match in our north facing bathroom, the match is almost exact, the difference is the finish, F&B paint has a chalkie finish and seems to change colour with the light.

Imo F&B is better quality but for a hallway you'd need the Modern Emulsion as the Estate marks very easily and isn't wipeable and tbh unless you were comparing side by side I doubt you can tell the Valspar and F&B apart. Johnstones is better quality than Valspar but I've found Vaspar (I always buy the premium scrubbable one, think it's the V700) ok.

I hope that's helpful, I love Ammonite and also Cornforth White which is one shade darker. They are greys but I think have a beige/taupe tone to them so feel warmer. There's lots of examples if you go on the Farrow & Ball website.

@Astillbe I've made up my mind now. I did try a Johnstone's match of cornforth white but it looked quite brown on my wall. If Johnstone's is better quality there is a shop nearby who I could get to match it for me rather than using the valspar range. Bit anxious of it being a different colour as the one I've tested though as the cornforth white looked nothing like I had seen online

@dreamingofholiday if you're happy with the colour match with Valspar I'd use that, just make sure you get it in the V700 so you can wipe it if needed. Decorators always seem to recommend Johnstone's but I don't think there's much difference really.

Sweetlikecoca · 10/06/2020 01:27

Perfectly Taupe by Dulux is lovely it’s probably darker than you want but would look good with white walls too.

dreamingofholiday · 10/06/2020 10:46

I worried myself a bit after reading bad reviews about the valspar paint so decided to pick up a tester of Johnstone's ammonite match and still love the colour so I'm going to go with that one. All of the dulux ones I tried looked bluey/purple in my house. I did paint one wall in my living room in natural slate by dulux though I think it was which I really like. I thought I would really like goosedown but again, looks quite purple.

So went for the Johnstone's match of ammonite as painter also said the valspar was rubbish, not totally dry yet and crap picture as the lighting isn't the best but I'm really pleased with it!

@dreamingofholiday could you please post a pic of the Dulux natural slate. We picked this colour as our favourite but no tester pots when we went to B&Q.

IndieTara · 11/06/2020 17:50

I've just painted my bedrom and hallway in Nickel from Wickes, it's pale and lovely

@indietara looks great!

@Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse this is it. This will be where my dining table when it eventually comes will go and I think it will go really well, I love the colour.

It's picking up darker on the photo, it's a bit lighter in real life

@dreamingofholiday lovely colour thanks.

flowerpotsandrain · 11/06/2020 18:16

I'm in the process of painting over my chic shadow, I've had it for a few years and hate it. It can reflect off the light but where there isn't much it looks very dark. It's cold and boring and reminds me of a concrete jail cell. I'm changing it to a soothing greyish blue instead.

practicallyperfectwithprosecco · 11/06/2020 18:20

Wilko grey whisper is a pale sliver grey and doesn't have the blue undertone the Dulyx pebble one does

Looks a bit yellow as have got the main light on

LunaHardy · 11/06/2020 18:24

Try dulux - polished pebble

Fleamaker123 · 11/06/2020 18:31

We tried lots of greys, they all looked pale lilac.
We've got Farrell and Ball's Worsted on chimney breast which dried much lighter than when it was first painted on! and Dulux Timeless on the other walls which is very off white/pale grey with no blue undertones.
Farrell and Ball a bit pricey but we were spending a small fortune on mistakes Blush

Astillbe · 11/06/2020 20:15

@dreamingofholiday it looks lovely, definitely a good colour match.

Sweetlikecoca · 13/06/2020 20:10

Crown - Granite dust in matte. Excellent paint the photo doesn’t do justice. It’s a true grey.
