Just seen one of my SNP mates share some twee status about how we should all congratulate ourselves for coping with home schooling for so long.

I don't want a fucking FB status. I want my kids in school. Failing that, I want a government homeschooling education system that actually works rather than dreadful worksheets - we've got three "daily activity sheets" for this week that are mostly the same and full of ideas like "Go for a walk". Fuck this, fuck it right up the bum.

I have seen SNP people posting loads of self righteous shite about playparks, people not social distancing or wearing masks, or black lives matter, but not one of them seems to actually want to address the fact that our education system has fallen to pieces.

Bollss · 08/06/2020 09:21

don't think most of them are driven by fear, I think they are driven by self-righteousness

No not most but some, I think.

I agree though lots are like this throughout life, this is the latest thing like you say. Presumably they will find something else to Dement over when this is done.

This is another culture war battle. That's how you can have people argue that although our government is useless, corrupt (and even proto-fascist hmm) we must consent to them removing our liberties indefinitely

It's totally batshit when you put it like that. I am actually very surprised about how many people are happy to lose liberties, how many don't want freedom. It's bizzarre.

I'm sick of going for a cocking walk. I want to go to a nice restaurant, have a coffee in a cafe with my best friend and have a lovely mooch around the shops.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/06/2020 09:24

Good morning all.
Threads are moving fast.
In answer to whoever it was who asked, yes I do have a grudge against seagulls. One swooped down and took ds1’s jumbo sausage straight out of his hand in Scarborough once.

Agree, although I'd have wine instead of coffee.

I want to be able to let my children out to play and for them to have their activities and lives back. I am really finding how childrens lives are being destroyed by this hard to take.

GeraltOfRivia · 08/06/2020 09:27

We have lift off. Youngest child is in school. I repeat, this is not a drill, youngest child is in school. We are NOT key workers. Hooray!

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 08/06/2020 09:27

In my eyes that's akin to psychological warfare. I don't think it's ok. It's going to have caused a whole heap of mental health issues.

This. Just before the lockdown I was calm about it and felt I had a pretty good idea of the threat that was actually posed. I was nervous but had it in proportion. I started washing my hands more and for longer, decided to not get too close to anyone to be safe. I cut back on social things. I had a mental look round at my friends and family in terms of trying to weigh up who might be at risk and determined most would be fine bar one who is elderly and vulnerable (and to be frank, ready to die after already experiencing pneumonia and cancer on several occasions). A lot of people sensibly did the same as me because we can see in the data at that point the virus stopped spreading so quickly.

I then saw more and more news stories about how LETHAL and DEADLY the virus was and how it was killing young people indiscriminately and even restricting myself to reading things once a day and telling myself the media was scaremongering and I was sent into a spin. The deterioration in my mental health was massive and quite quick. Obviously I have a background of trauma and mental health struggles but I'd been doing so well for a long time. It shocked me how quickly I went downhill. I've been needing a lot of support to get through this but so many in my boat don't have that. It is criminal. It will have pushed many into a position they can't get back out of because they are vulnerable and frightened. The damage will be long-lasting. That doesn't show up in the death rates. People will just suffer silently.

Nihiloxica · 08/06/2020 09:29

Children don't deserve sausages. I'm with the seagull.

In the new normal you will be arrested for giving seaside treats to germ-ridden disease vectors.

Pleasedontdothat · 08/06/2020 09:31

I think a lot of people are (irrationally) terrified still - this morning I was coming to the end of my dog walk and was crossing a very wide footbridge. A woman wearing a mask was coming the other way and as she passed me (definitely more than 2m distance) she clutched the front of her mask to hold it closer to her face. We’re in an area of London where there have been something like 3 new cases in the last week and no deaths - she was in much more danger as she crossed the road.

I don’t know what it’s going to take to get people behaving normally again when some are so scared and acting so illogically. It would be an interesting psychological experiment if we didn’t actually have to live through it...

trappedsincesundaymorn · 08/06/2020 09:32

Morning all. I've just had an e-mail from work....I'm being made redundant. I'm scared, sad and angry all at the same time. What the fuck do I do now? Everything I'd planned for, everything I loved has been shot down in flames.

GeraltOfRivia · 08/06/2020 09:34

@trappedsincesundaymorn I'm so sorry you got bad news today. Give yourself a day to wallow in the feelings and then make a plan. What redundancy payment will you get, what can you apply for, where can you go next. It's absolutely shit

HesterShaw1 · 08/06/2020 09:35

On a purely personal level, I'm not seeing any correlation between being a Remainer and being a Dementor (God these bloody labels we give people Blush). Lots of my mates are entirely sick of the whole thing now, and most of them voted Remain. I appreciate in Cornwall my circle might be seen as a bit of an exception though.

I really think that social media has so much to answer for...they are stoking the "We don't want you" message that potential visitors are reading about Cornwall. In the area I live, people do grumble about crowded roads and hospitals but recognise that we rely on tourism so outright hostility is rare. People just shout on social media because they think they can. Also the Brexit result here was a much closer run thing than was commonly reported - about 53% I think.

That was a bit of a tangent

HesterShaw1 · 08/06/2020 09:36

trappedsincesundaymorn, shit I'm so so sorry Flowers

Nihiloxica · 08/06/2020 09:36

Shit, so sorry trapped.

Sad

If "what do I do now?" isn't e rhetorical question, we could help you with that when it has sunk in.

Drivingdownthe101 · 08/06/2020 09:37

Oh trappedsincesundaymorn I’m so sorry to hear that Sad

Mascotte · 08/06/2020 09:38

Interesting theories. I am impressed with the dedication of dementors.

I think they used the pictures of Italy to scare us into accepting lockdown, and fair enough, it worked. No overwhelmed NHS, bodies in the streets.

Getting out of it is now tricky, but on my view we have shown we can act to stop any threat of overwhelming deaths and services if it should happen again, so let's go back to normal and see what happens.

Drivingdownthe101 · 08/06/2020 09:38

I’m a staunch remainer non dementor. Never thought they would be words used to describe myself!

NowImLivinInExeter · 08/06/2020 09:39

trappedsincesundaymornFlowers I'm so sorry.

Pleasedontdothat · 08/06/2020 09:40

@trapped that’s absolutely crap - I’m so sorry

I hope the redundancy package is decent and gives you some breathing space while you work out what to do next

I could very well be joining you soon - we’ve been warned there are swingeing job cuts on the way (I work for a charity and the vast majority of our fundraising income for this year has vanished in a puff of virus-ridden miasma). We’ve been asked to come up with various budget scenarios ranging from our team losing a fifth of our budget, all the way up to 90% of it going, in which case the team will cease to exist

Mascotte · 08/06/2020 09:40

Oh, @trappedsincesundaymorn that's shite.

NowImLivinInExeter · 08/06/2020 09:40

I'm a staunch remainder!

NowImLivinInExeter · 08/06/2020 09:40

ffs REMAINER

Nihiloxica · 08/06/2020 09:42

I really think that social media has so much to answer for...

I agree.

Now that people are isolated from one another, its influence has been massively amplified.

I have travelled in such pinko circles that I didn't even know any Leavers in real life. I had to seek them out online to understand their arguments.

So maybe I'm wrong about that.

There probably are more frightened people than I'm seeing now that I see so few people.

But nobody who supports the BLM protests is scared and a lot of them are quite happy with indefinite lockdown.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 08/06/2020 09:42

The minimum I will get is about 6k. Because OH has savings (from before he moved in with me ), I will not be entitled to any benefits. We have a zoom meeting with the supply manager this morning so what he will say is anybody's guess.

Ghostlyglow · 08/06/2020 09:44

So sorry @trappedsincesundaymorn There is going to be a lot of this. Everyone who is in work join a union, if you are not in one. Do it now.
