Currently lying in A&e with a kidney stone blocking urethra. I have never been in this much pain and it's horrific! Being pumped with pain meds and fluids but going to need surgery. Can anyone keep me company- am lonely terrified and sad!

Bless you @lyingonthesofa, hope you get some sleep. Thinking of you and said a prayer for you. Hope all goes smoothly and you'll be back to your normal self asap! Flowers

NoRoomInBed · 07/06/2020 03:08

Your in good hands. I had them twice before and needed surgery twice on one. I found morphine didnt help the pain just made me sleep. Chin up it'll be over soon. It's a very painless operation you'll be dancing compared to what you have now.

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 05:44

Managed a couple of hours sleep until the confused old ladies started asking for coffee at 4.30 and set each other off! Pain is pretty bad. Hoping for more drugs ASAP!

Did your head feel cold when they gave you the morphine? I had it for the first time on the day they took my gallbladder out. It worked a treat for me.

I shared a room with a snorer. She was complaining to a visitor the next morning that she didn’t sleep. I’m afraid I put her right.

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 06:06

These poor nurses and health care assistants are so busy with demands for cooler coffees and no blankets or more blankets.

How are you feeling now? I mean are you iun any less pain, obviously you are not OK.

Heismyopendoor · 07/06/2020 06:13

How are you op? Hoping you will be getting ready for surgery pretty soon.

A funny story to distract from the pain? A few months ago I closed the lid of the toilet and stood on it so I could see my outfit in the bathroom mirror. I only broke the bloody thing and fell right into the toilet! Scraped up all my ankle and foot 🤣 I could explain to DH why we needed a new toilet seat! Too embarrassed!

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 06:29

Pain quite bad still. Having regular morphine to try and get on top of it. I'm not sure what time they do their morning rounds in terms of surgery but I'm hoping it's soon just for some relief. Surely it can't be any worse than this! Can't believe one little stone is causing all of this!

I had an op a few years ago and I had already been spoken to by this point in the morning so hopefully you get seen soon 😀

lotusbell · 07/06/2020 07:11

Fingers crossed your surgery is soon and all over and done with x

bigfootfred · 07/06/2020 07:13

Oh poor u op hope you get ur op soon and will be on the way to recovery xx

dimotikopp · 07/06/2020 07:41

You have my total sympathy! I had kidney stones and they did lythotrpsy with sound waves to break it up,then I had a stent put in to help pass the bits left. It was very very painful, and I've given birth twice and had a ruptured disc :( you will feel much better soon DaffodilThanksfor you and a big virtual hug

Amusing anecdotes:

Had an operation under GA. Went home all good but out of my tree on morphine. In my drugged state decided that DDog needed an ice cream. Waited until ice cream van came round. Practically hurled small children out of the way to get an ice cream. Got home, presented it to the dog who took one lick (out of politeness) then wandered off!

Allotment friend had an operation and had to be practically pinned down in the recovery room as he was insistent he had to go and feed his effing hens! Once fully conscious the recovery room nurse came to see him and told he was now free to go and feed his effing hens!

Kahlua4me · 07/06/2020 08:09

Poor you, I know exactly how bad that pain is! I had a kidney stone last year and the pain is the worst I have ever had!!

Mine was a large stone that didn’t give me any pain until they tried to shatter it and unfortunately a piece got wedged in the urethra. I didn’t even know I had it as it was found when having a scan for something else.

Anyway, I spent a week of being in and out of hospital with the pain as they were hoping to blast it again the following week to get it moving. They eventually decided to operate as blasting would be a long winded treatment. Best decision ever as I woke up afterwards with no pain and recovery was straight forward. I had a stent put in so had to go back a few days alter to have that removed but that was it.

I will be hoping that they decide to operate on you as soon as they can so the pain will go.

dicksplash · 07/06/2020 08:15

Poor you, i hope they don't keep you waiting to long.

I've not had kidney stones but did have gall stones and one of them got stuck. Had nearly two weeks of constant pain before my op which had to be brought forward.

It was the only time I was grateful my dm lived in another time zone as I had someone to chat to through the night when I couldn't sleep for the pain.

labazsisgoingmad · 07/06/2020 08:52

they are one of the worse things to have i hope you get operated on asap and get the relief you need
take care hugs love and prayers for you

GarlicSoup · 07/06/2020 12:19

Poor you OP hope you are soon recovering and feeling much better Flowers

loutypips · 07/06/2020 12:59

Hope you're more comfortable now? I think morphine can cause sickness as well, so see if they can give you anti-sickness meds too.

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 13:36

Thank you- it's going in waves. Have had a few bags of anti sickness but as soon as it wears off bad things happen!

OP posts:
NoRoomInBed · 07/06/2020 13:40

Kidney stones can cause sickness too. Hopefully you'll not be to much longer. I was in a week and my kidneys shutting down and a catheter untill they decided to operate. To be fair they wasnt 100% it was kidney stones because of my age.

lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 17:56

No news to report- pain is more under control due to regular and often and have managed two biscuits this afternoon.
No sign of any stones yet but I'm hopeful!

OP posts:
lyingonthesofa · 07/06/2020 21:33

No real news- progress is I can sit up without feeling faint and I've eaten two biscuits and had some squash. No sign of stones which is disappointing. Hoping for some sleep tonight!

OP posts:
Gilead · 07/06/2020 22:53

Good luck! You have my sympathy, that pain is no fun!

lyingonthesofa · 08/06/2020 07:31
