Currently lying in A&e with a kidney stone blocking urethra. I have never been in this much pain and it's horrific! Being pumped with pain meds and fluids but going to need surgery. Can anyone keep me company- am lonely terrified and sad!

Poor you do you know when your surgery will be?

I'm currently in bed and really need to get up but both kids are still asleep by some miracle and I cannot find the motivation!

MyNameWas · 08/06/2020 08:48

Hi, has the doctor been to see you yet?

lyingonthesofa · 08/06/2020 08:53

No news yet. Monday morning has seen a definite increase in staff around the place though! Everyone else seems to have had a doctor visit but not me yet. Complete mix of needs- 2 people under the geriatric /palliative care team, 1 orthopaedic and 1 abdominal. Currently I most want someone to find the elderly lady opposite me a nursing home place- she is constantly shouting!!

Oh lying, so sorry you are still in pain, really hope they can sort you out today. So miserable being in hospital with no possibility of visitors. Sending a virtual hand hold.

BashStreetKid · 08/06/2020 09:54

Is it worth asking if the shouting lady could be moved to a side ward? When my mother was in hospital fairly recently there was someone like this on the ward. People were incredibly tolerant and understanding, but it reached the point where it was affecting the other patients' health as they couldn't sleep, and ultimately the nurses moved her out, to universal sighs of relief.

lyingonthesofa · 08/06/2020 13:45

@bash apparently she didn't like being in her own room!

OP posts:
gettingusedtothelimelight · 08/06/2020 14:05

@lyingonthesofa

Maybe you could ask for the room instead 😂

BashStreetKid · 08/06/2020 14:28

Good grief. How about the "likes" of all the other patients?

lyingonthesofa · 08/06/2020 15:08

Ugh more bad news. Stones have caused an acute kidney injury. Not unusual apparently, but have to stay until it's fixed. Another night of shouty old lady!

OP posts:
Bloodybridget · 08/06/2020 15:13

Oh blimey, that's rubbish! Did they explain how they would fix the injury? How's the pain now?

C0RA · 08/06/2020 15:15

Sorry to hear that. Hope the meds are keeping you a bit more comfortable.

Khione · 08/06/2020 15:16

Can you get someone to bring you some ear plugs in - and some headphones for distraction. You could listen to podcasts to keep your mind occupied some of the time whilst the pain relief is working.

Haggisfish · 08/06/2020 15:58

Oooh you poor thing. Have you asked the nurses if there are headphones? They often have a stock of them.

lyingonthesofa · 08/06/2020 16:08

Good idea- I'll ask for some later when the nice HCA comes on night shift! Need to bribe one of the staff to disconnect her call button....

OP posts:
lyingonthesofa · 08/06/2020 23:29

Apparently no earplugs or headphones. Am the youngest by at least 35 years! No real change except pain is under control. Nights are the most lonely!

Forgothowtospell · 09/06/2020 00:16

I wish I could stay up chatting to keep you company @lyingonthesofa. Hope you get some good sleep tonight. Definitely ask if you can get your own room if you will be staying for a few more days.

Starlightstarbright1 · 09/06/2020 00:20

Hope you are managing to get some sleep

lyingonthesofa · 09/06/2020 06:48

Thank you- I managed some sleep but pain is pretty bad this morning. Hoping meds will kick in quickly!

OP posts:
BashStreetKid · 09/06/2020 08:10

Why are they keeping you in so long without doing something about the stones?

lyingonthesofa · 09/06/2020 10:28

Because they are quite small they are hoping they will come out by themselves. Today's blood test will show if kidney function is improving. If it is, I can go home, if not, they will have to remove them. Quite scared!

OP posts:
BashStreetKid · 09/06/2020 11:44

Good luck for the test!

Bloodybridget · 09/06/2020 11:44

You poor thing. If you do go home, I hope you can leave with effective pain relief, otherwise, hard though it is, you might do better to stay in.

ceecee32 · 09/06/2020 11:56

I feel your pain with the shouty woman..when I was in hospital there was a very confused lady who slept all day and then shouted 'Help me' all night. She used to set off one of the other ladies who was convinced she was listening to the TV and shouted 'if you cant turn that telly down just unplug it'
Still don't understand why they let them sleep all day and cause havoc when everyone else was trying to sleep.

Flyingarcher · 09/06/2020 17:34

How are you doing?

lyingonthesofa · 10/06/2020 08:37

I'm home! Levels came down enough for them to be happy so have come home with a massive bag of painkillers. So relieved! Slept for 12 hours and just staying very still in bed for now and waiting for painkillers to kick in. Thank you everyone- made a real difference having some company!
