Damn it, freshly cut grass beats line-dried washing.

lakeswimmer · 06/06/2020 18:16

That earthy smell when it rains after a dry spell is actually called petrichor (I discovered this when it was a question on University Challenge Grin ) it's my favourite smell and is something to do with gas being released from earth.

I also love the smell of wet wool (like when you handwash a woollen jumper)

beachmist · 06/06/2020 18:18

Karma fragrance by LUSH cosmetics
Barbecues
Onions and garlic cooking in a frying pan

LauraPalmerViolet · 06/06/2020 18:20

Lilac - just so fresh and spring like.
Roses - love to stick my nose right in!
My children’s necks - a good snuffle while we’re cuddling.

Kittenlicker · 06/06/2020 18:21

Hot water bottles (when hot), tarmac, new born puppies.

SoMuchToBits · 06/06/2020 18:22

Oh yes, Pipandmum Crabtree and Evelyn Jojoba oil soap/ body wash. Very sad that's no longer available. Sad

beachmist · 06/06/2020 18:22

But I feel like fresh laundry and newborn baby smell deserves a mention!

hopeforlucky3 · 06/06/2020 18:23

Fresh washing, horses and puppy breath! Grin

Coffeebiscuitsrepeat · 06/06/2020 18:23

I've never actually smelled a newborn baby. Stupid question... But what do they smell like?!

Arran Aromatics After the Rain range. God it's lush.

Cigars (remind me of my grandpa)

Apple pie baking in the oven.

beachmist · 06/06/2020 18:26

@Coffeebiscuitsrepeat I can't describe what they actually smell like, all I can say is it's just so lovely and you can't stop smelling them! Grin

Bourbonbiccy · 06/06/2020 18:33

Coffee
Petrol
Angel perfume

missmouse101 · 06/06/2020 18:40

Warm fudge, wild gorse flowers, bacon or roast chicken.

Drogonssmile · 06/06/2020 20:42

@Coffeebiscuitsrepeat wow! I'm tempted by that candle too!

Drogonssmile · 06/06/2020 20:46

Newborn babies and babies in general especially when they've just woken up have a sort of freshly baked smell, not yeasty or anything but warm and comforting. They have the loveliest breath ever as well mmmmm. Even my kids at 3 and 6 smell
"Freshly baked" when they wake up. Just warm little bodies without any offensive odours that adults produce! Unless they have full nappy of course.

MarshaBradyo · 06/06/2020 20:49

Baby / toddler clean hair
Log fire
Roses

iklboo · 06/06/2020 20:49

Hot tar
Creosote
Petrichor (rain on hot concrete)

SingingSands · 06/06/2020 20:55

Peat smoke drifting over a Hebridean village
Lemon 🍋
Freshly ground coffee beans

Glitterb · 06/06/2020 20:55

Petrol
JPG Classique perfume
Lush snow fairy

I would add my dogs paws.... but she is currently soggy from the rain so stinks 😹

FliesandPies · 06/06/2020 21:01

Cut grass
Lime tree blossom
Pine needles when it's hot and dry

Coffeebiscuitsrepeat · 06/06/2020 21:08

@fliesandpies I went to camp in California when I was 11 and the smell of the sugar pines up in the mountains was totally unforgettable. Would love to go back!
