When would you go back to online grocery shopping?

I have always done my food shopping online delivered to my door with Tesco, for about the last fifteen years.
I usually pay for the monthly pass, I stopped using the online shopping as no slots at first and as we are not shielding and there were others more in need than us felt wrong to do it.
I truly hate supermarkets, I feel ill everyone I go, I always have.
When would be appropriate to go back to my deliveries? I feel bad doing it but there are free slots available at my supermarket ......

I can't stand how close people came to me this morning when I went to Asda for things for my father in law.
There were no manned checkouts at all, I had to use a self service till with a full trolley, took ages and due to a recent shoulder injury really made the whole process worse.
So when do you think it's ok to go back to it?

There are loads of free slots now here. I could order now for delivery tomorrow lunchtime.

ScarfLadysBag · 05/06/2020 16:20

And we've had deliveries all the way through and no real issue getting them. We've shopped online for years and had a delivery pass for a long time.

GinnyStrupac · 05/06/2020 16:22

There were only 3 available late evening slots, all a week ahead here, and at a small extra cost, not ideal but better than nothing.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/06/2020 16:22

I had problems for the first ten days getting an Ocado delivery

None since then, had one a week

bumblingbovine49 · 05/06/2020 16:23

I have never stopped.

Pipandmum · 05/06/2020 16:27

I didn't stop. Sure the slots got scarce so instead of every week it was every second or third week. I started click and collect too - when I went there was never a queue and no one waiting after me so I think demand was exaggerated. As for leaving the slots for key workers - they had priority already and no gaurantee my not using a slot meant it would go to one. No guilt.

ScarfLadysBag · 05/06/2020 16:27

There's also the M&S boxes and Morrison's ones for vulnerable people. My mum has had both and raves about them. She's just ordered another fish box.

pfrench · 05/06/2020 16:29

I can't get a delivery slot with any of the 3 supermarkets I have an account with. Not one for months. Would much prefer it.

iVampire · 05/06/2020 16:39

I get online deliveries because I am in the shield group.

We can now go outdoors daily for well distanced exercise, we shouldn’t be going in to any buildings except medical ones for essential F2F appointments.

It was a worrying time in the first couple of weeks of shielding, and I was one of the lucky ones who got it sorted within the first 3 weeks. Many others took much longer.

I don’t know what the availability of slots is like for non-shield customers

Everything else is working pretty normally, though there are somewhat more substitutions (sensible ones) and missing items. There also seem to be a number of items permanently out of stock (I don’t mean legacy of panic buying, rather that they have reduced range in some areas, temporarily I hope)

The window in which you can edit an order seems to have stabilised too.

GinnyStrupac · 05/06/2020 16:40

You wouldn't actually want the majority of the basic supermarket food boxes every week nor be able to live healthily on the contents, although they are probably ok as an emergency stop gap.

GinnyStrupac · 05/06/2020 16:43

None of our keyworker medic friends have received priority for delivery slots.

Pippapotomus · 05/06/2020 16:45

Morrisons has plenty of available slots here, it appears to be back to normal.

I absolutely hate going to the supermarket. I can cope with the small tesco express, but when there were no delivery slots anywhere I had to send DH out.

Carpballs · 05/06/2020 16:47

I would like to be doing my shop online.

I've had a delivery saver pass with Tesco for years but since lockdown I've struggled to get slots - I've been able to book two!

So I've cancelled my pass and am now relying on HelloFresh deliveries to eat and the local shop for small odds and sods.

Pemba · 05/06/2020 16:48

I agree with Ginny, received an email from one of the supermarkets recently (might have been Asda) advertising their new box with a picture. No fresh stuff at all, or any fruit and veg. Why?

BissueTox · 05/06/2020 17:05

We have a delivery slot every week. I haven't been into a shop since lockdown, and no wish to.

flamingochill · 05/06/2020 17:12

www.morrisons.com/food-boxes/

One of them is called fruit and veg box and the others seem to come with some veg?

vanillandhoney · 05/06/2020 17:43

We've had a slot every week - plenty available here throughout.

notangelinajolie · 05/06/2020 17:48

There are lots of slots now.

Juliet2014 · 05/06/2020 17:50

I have no problem with going to the supermarket, and I go couple of times a week.

Also have a delivery once every fortnight. Would do more if needed.

No guilt

wowfudge · 05/06/2020 17:54

In March/April I was unable to get an online delivery so had to go to a supermarket. Since then, I've had Morrisons deliveries. There's barely a wait now and I can book for next time too. Ocado it seems you haven't a prayer unless you know when they release their slots.

Nixen · 05/06/2020 17:57

I would go back if I were you.
We never stopped. We’ve paid the premium to shop with Ocado for 7 years, I wasn’t about to stop now 🤷🏼‍♀️ It’s easier to get a slot now too as demand has eased a bit

poppy2021 · 05/06/2020 18:01

I started click and collect about 4 weeks into lockdown and don't think I will go back to shopping in store. Such a timesaver.

RainMustFall · 05/06/2020 18:06

I've never stopped having weekly deliveries - and currently have a slot a week booked to the end of June.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 05/06/2020 18:11

We’ve done a C&C throughout (have had & used pass for deliveries for years) no problem getting slots & could

MyOtherProfile · 05/06/2020 18:13

We have continued to have weekly Tesco slots all through lockdown. Somehow every time I go online I get a slot so we have carried on as normal. The few times I've had to go in a supermarket I've really hated it and felt very vulnerable.
