When would you go back to online grocery shopping?

I have always done my food shopping online delivered to my door with Tesco, for about the last fifteen years.
I usually pay for the monthly pass, I stopped using the online shopping as no slots at first and as we are not shielding and there were others more in need than us felt wrong to do it.
I truly hate supermarkets, I feel ill everyone I go, I always have.
When would be appropriate to go back to my deliveries? I feel bad doing it but there are free slots available at my supermarket ......

I can't stand how close people came to me this morning when I went to Asda for things for my father in law.
There were no manned checkouts at all, I had to use a self service till with a full trolley, took ages and due to a recent shoulder injury really made the whole process worse.
So when do you think it's ok to go back to it?

I am also an Ocado user who has always been able to get a slot. Been a customer since it first set up. I top up with our local fruit and veg shop during the week, same as ever. A fishmonger that we use delivers the next day subject to a minimum order value. The fishmonger didn't use to offer that service so I'll be sad if it stops.

I'm a Tesco pass holder.

Struggled terribly to get slots the first few weeks, so did one big Sainsbury’s shop (closest supermarket to me) to last us 2 weeks. Then did click and collect every 2 weeks.

I didn't feel it appropriate to get deliveries as they were needed more by vulnerable people such as my parents, MIL etc.
I've topped up occasionally from local corner shop and butcher.

Slots are now more available where I am.

Runnerduck34 · 05/06/2020 18:55

Go back to it now, I have.
Got email from ocado saying i was a priority customer by which i think they mean i spend a shed load of money with them🤣
Ive also done grocery shopping online for 20 years cant stand supermarkets at the best of times. Be aware though tesco has ( or did have) an 80 item limit, which is a pain if you have a large family.

Booking end of the month delivery with Morrison’s I’ve online shopped for years.

Likethebattle · 05/06/2020 19:11

The supermarket slots you can see are the ones available to non shielding people as the ones for vulnerable customers are held separately., fill your boots. We can get a slot at most times everyday now but can only book one week at a time.

heartsonacake · 05/06/2020 19:12

I wouldn’t have stopped if I were you. We never got deliveries before lockdown but started during and got one every week, so we’ll just continue that from now on.

Whilst Tesco has been brilliant and never let me down, I also used to get Waitrose deliveries when I needed something different and have had no luck getting a slot at all.

I am totally fine with them reserving slots for those in most need but whenever I tried at midnight to get a slot, it would throw me back to the front page to log in again and then get an error message night after night. This pissed me off because it was obvious there wasn't an error, all the slots had gone, rightly, to those on the priority list and they should have given this as the reason, not lie about it. I think Tesco pulled out all the stops and hired plenty of new drivers to cover all the orders and obviously Waitrose didn't.

It would be easy to say I'm irritated enough to not order from them again but that means no chocolate and blood orange ice cream which is essential to my continuing existence. Grin

I stopped using online for a few weeks as I felt guilty, but am back to it now. Have been getting a weekly delivery for nearly a decade now.

schoolsoutforcovid · 05/06/2020 19:15

Never stopped. They're easy to come by now I find

Haworthia · 05/06/2020 19:16

I never stopped. No guilt. I shopped for my parents too and delivered to their doorstep.

BillBaileysBum · 05/06/2020 19:17

Never stopped here either.
Overall I think employing more drivers, having advance notice of orders and less people physical in stores is a much better option all round.

CeibaTree · 05/06/2020 20:15

We've been getting regular Ocado slots the whole way through. I figure they are giving way slots to the elderly and vulnerable first, so any left over are fair game.

FredaFox · 05/06/2020 20:19

My mum has a delivery pass and we struggled with slots but she then hit her letter confirming her vulnerability do we’ve used the priority slots for her
This week she got an email from Tesco confirming delivery pass is giving her access to slots 4 weeks in advance, I had a look and there were loads of slots available
I’ve booked one of those instead of priority as I can get the hourly slot
Try again is my advice

@flamingochill

One of them is called fruit and veg box and the others seem to come with some veg?

Looks like they’ve really expanded their range lately. That’s odd though — they used to have a Halal Box too. Maybe that was only for Ramadan? It’s a bit weird they would take it away though because people need to eat halal year round.
louise5754 · 06/06/2020 15:02

I've had my food delivered every week for the past 10 years. I cannot get a slot. I think it's very unfair that people who never usually order online can but the loyal customers can't. (Not the elderly or vulnerable obviously).

I don't drive and I have anxiety and autism. I still can't get one now.

AnnaSW1 · 06/06/2020 15:10

I've continued throughout. Never had a problem getting a weekly slot so just carried on.

Deelish75 · 06/06/2020 16:43

I've got a Sainsbury's delivery pass and DP's nectar card is linked to the account. As lockdown started I received an email from Sainsbury's stating I had been identified as vulnerable. I am not but DP does have the NHS flu jab. I tried phoning them but couldn't get through so as DP is vulnerable we decided to carry on with it. We always got the slot that we wanted, it was fine. Then my nearest Sainsbury's started doing C&C and since then there's lots of C&C but very few delivery slots. I'm happy with C&C but I just found it very strange.

Ghostlyglow · 06/06/2020 17:18

I never stopped. It was a real struggle getting slots at first, then it got easier, there seem to be less again now.

H1978 · 06/06/2020 17:25

I’ve done my main shop online since lockdown but been in a few times to top up or shop for others. I know what you mean about people coming close to you, it makes me feel physically sick and like there are germs crawling over me,so I have to shower when I get back. I’ve got a slot booked three weeks in advance for a few weeks now and although not vulnerable, I do suffer from slight vertigo, so busy supermarkets make my head spin.

Howmuchlongercanthislast · 06/06/2020 17:30

Had deliveries throughout- Morrisons and Ocado

Going the other way now- I went to a supermarket (ok M&S) for the first time yesterday. The choice was amazing.

CodenameVillanelle · 06/06/2020 17:35

Supermarkets only had issues for the first few weeks of lockdown. It's been fine for about 6 weeks or more now so do your shopping the way you want to.

wowfudge · 06/06/2020 19:39

The supermarket issues started before the lockdown though and then more people than usually shop online cottoned on to ordering things which were out of stock in stores when they went in and avoiding busy places. I remember getting my mum to set up online shopping before all the delivery slots got booked up and that was in early March.

KellyHall · 06/06/2020 19:42

I've been to the shop once since the start of lockdown and I hated it so much, I bought a month's worth of supplies - I had bags stacked in the trolley and hanging off it in all directions! I only went because I couldn't even get a click and collect slot, I'll get home deliveries as soon as slots are available.

nosnugglesforyou · 06/06/2020 19:44

I’ve had an Ocado order every week. It was hard for about 3 weeks but now there’s loads of options

Marble2302 · 06/06/2020 19:46

I have delivery saver. I have continued shopping online. I don't feel bad. I have shopped online for years and without customers like me Tesco would not have an online business.
