When would you go back to online grocery shopping?

I have always done my food shopping online delivered to my door with Tesco, for about the last fifteen years.
I usually pay for the monthly pass, I stopped using the online shopping as no slots at first and as we are not shielding and there were others more in need than us felt wrong to do it.
I truly hate supermarkets, I feel ill everyone I go, I always have.
When would be appropriate to go back to my deliveries? I feel bad doing it but there are free slots available at my supermarket ......

I can't stand how close people came to me this morning when I went to Asda for things for my father in law.
There were no manned checkouts at all, I had to use a self service till with a full trolley, took ages and due to a recent shoulder injury really made the whole process worse.
So when do you think it's ok to go back to it?

I've used Morrison's deliveries for a year, and before that had Asda deliver. In our area Morrison's has just moved to fulfilling deliveries from the local store rather than central warehouse and it's a nightmare. Very little choice and basic items out of stock. How can milk, eggs and tomatoes be out of stock if I'm ordering them a week before the delivery date? Very frustrated!

Its not fine everyone though. I've not managed to get one since March.

GinnyStrupac · 07/06/2020 18:46

Agreed - still not fine everywhere and priority slots are only for the clinically extremely medically vulnerable group on the government list. The otherwise very vulnerable, severely disabled or elderly people and their carers have to try for slots alongside everyone else. No slots available here for the foreseeable future again.

Click and collect has been great for us. I prefer it to delivery because, if they don't have something essential in stock, I can nip into the local Spar on the way home and pick it up, then forget about shopping for a while.

Do you live in towns or cities? I live in one of Top 5 largest maybe that's why. It's been an awful struggle.

Rural area here.

Im surprised at all thsie who never stopped.

Tescos were very clear that if you could go into a store you should and leave the slots for vulnerable and older people. It explains why we were struggling early on 🙄. We did eventually find some veg boxes thankfulky.

Even iceland said to click to confirm elderly or vulnerable for a slot.

I believe that tescos are on top of it now and have opened up slots though?

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 07/06/2020 19:41

Just checked and Iceland no longer ask for you to declare yourself vulnerable.

When I stopped getting deliveries I switched to click and collect with missing items from the local, very well managed aldis. This felt like a good compromise, leave the slots for those who needed it while still minimising the number of people in store.

Tesco seem to have lots more slots so am back to our regular weekly slot now. Only difference being I have to book it 3/4 wks in advance instead of a day or so like before.

I've done click and collect throughout and will continue to do so.

I've left deliveries for those that need them but I am not going inside an overcrowded supermarket for quite some time.

I've stopped using Tesco where I always used to shop as it has been too difficult to book a slot and the store is always busy inside despite limiting customer numbers. I have switched to Asda where click and collect slots are plentiful and easy to book. I don't feel like I am depriving anyone in more need by booking one slot a week. Thank you Asda. You have gained a customer.

ASDA is where I've ordered from every week for the past 13 years. Disappointing.
