I would make sure everybody who employs cleaners in that area knew that they were thieves.

That is outrageous.

It's the worst of what Dementoring makes possible - acting like a total asshole (or in this case criminal) and getting to do it with a self-righteous grin on your face.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 06/06/2020 16:49

Exactly, Nihiloxica.
It’s finding an excuse to express existing resentments about second homes, other people having more money than them etc.

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/06/2020 17:07

CountessofFitzdodderel they were hanging around the immaculately clean car park, where they were clearly used to scrounging in normal times, like extras from The Omen.
They just looked, sad and tatty and they had their children with them!

Weedsnseeds1 · 06/06/2020 17:13

CruCru that's outrageous.
I think that's one occasion when a sad face story in the papers might be called for.
If the cleaning company are doing that to everyone with a holiday home, they won't be in business much longer.
I think I would be driving up to see what else had been stolen.

Yup, and then hammering on the door of the cleaning company. Maybe licking the door handle a bit, just to really piss them off. Wink

bakingcupcakes · 06/06/2020 17:18

@SpnBaby1967 It's ok, it was a very safe kenco coffee made by my own fair hands! Grin

We went on a murderous walk to buy milk and fruit earlier. The local fruit&veg shop is now letting us inside. I stood outside for ages until the man came out to tell me we could come in. Blush

Then I came back and had a very dementorish conversation with my mother regarding masks which included the phrase 'well if it saves lives' Just kill me now.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 06/06/2020 17:25

@bakingcupcakes my mum’s the same about masks. She never uses public transport but tells me that it’s very important. I think breathing recycled air sounds unhealthy for more than a short journey. I’d definitely avoid a journey of more than 20 minutes now but that’s easy for me. I feel for people who have no choice. The more unpleasant they make going out the worse it is for the economy surely.

Nihiloxica · 06/06/2020 17:27

We can all just say we have breathing difficulties and not wear them.

ISaySteadyOn · 06/06/2020 17:33

Would sensory issues qualify?

OP posts:
BakewellTarts · 06/06/2020 17:36

I think wearing masks is largely performative with limited impact on the spread. (particularly as noone wears them properly). But I do have some and can / will wear them if I am public transport or visiting a hospital.

Now can we talk about lifting other restrictions. After all there should be balance, If we increase the restrictive load in one area we can relax others. Otherwise its just a one way street that is ever more onerous.

bakingcupcakes · 06/06/2020 17:37

@Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy My mum believes they should be compulsory everywhere in public and they should have been since march...I always used the train to work (city centre) until the last week before furlough when I drove in. When I go back I'm intending to drive and park rather than use the train.

@Nihiloxica I'm wondering what 'proof' will be required for the breathing difficulties part of the rule. I tried wandering around the house with a scarf worn over my nose and mouth yesterday and it was horrible. I never wear a scarf (the one I have was a gift) or polar neck tops because I can't abide things touching my neck. I suspected I might have an issue with face masks. I'll have to get used to it though because work have made them compulsory.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 06/06/2020 17:37

I very rarely use public transport but I'm very tempted to steal one of dh's old inhalers to use as an "I have asthma" prop in case mask use becomes mandatory elsewhere.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 06/06/2020 17:40

Yes! I'd be far less bullish and stroppy about masks if it was, say, in conjunction with dropping 2m to 1m. Give and take, and all that. As it is, fuck 'em.

Sadly overlooked victims of the pandemic Sad

The seagulls at Scarborough will be hungry too, but that serves them right, thieving feathery sausage stealing bastards.

Littlebelina · 06/06/2020 17:42

I don't mind mask wearing in enclosed spaces (although appreciate why people don't like the idea) if it helps open more things up quickly. Otherwise as bakewell says it's just more restrictions with no reward.

Interesting that others have had problems concentrating, this last week has been a brick wall to me (not helped by increasing unreliable broadband) which cemented the need to send ds to school so I can get things done, even if it does mean going into work to use the network. We haven't attempted Maccy D's yet, potentially next week's treat.

Seagulls are such bold birds.

You have to admire them, even though they are a species of Cheeky Fuckers.

DH and I met up with BIL and SIL this afternoon (his brother and wife). We all stood awkwardly in the car park with our three kids and their two cousins. I kind of muttered "so 2m?" And everyone laughed and said well kids don't count and 30sec later all was joyful. 3 hour walk with a cafe and ice cream stop in the middle and they are all happy and exhausted now. Adults did maintain separation, to be fair.

Ooh, Countess, that sounds like someone has a grudge.

Dowser · 06/06/2020 18:18

I’m shocked at the thievery of the cleaners.
I drove the 100 miles to the lakes two weeks ago and saw what looked like an annexe ( Airbnb?) at the side of a house and said to dh, I bet you could take a guest or two in there providing they were happy to go for walks and drives.
It was as a quiet as a graveyard for this time of year
You’d think they’d be glad of the business
We started at Pooley Bridge and ended up in Keswick
Lovely well recommended.

I don’t know exactly what area it’s in. It might be that the local paper is absolutely dementorish and would be completely unsympathetic to evil Londoners wanting to keep hold of their White Company duvet covers.
Nihiloxica · 06/06/2020 18:27

"Come to the beautiful Lake District, where the locals are thieves."

RubberDinghyRapids · 06/06/2020 18:33

Did they actually admit on paper they had taken them @CruCru? I'd get your mate to keep that as evidence then say that more was taken, DVD player, kitchenaid, booze....

Some people have lost all sense of decency in the frenzy of anxiety and virtue signalling. Fuck 'em. Grin

I've struggled so bad with work this week & just concentrating on it. I'm not finding my "flow" till after lunch & then end up having to work late just to keep on track. But the nature of my work is coming across dementors in their droves and bot being able to tell them to grow the fuck up & have to actually act like I think their complaint is reasonable.
