Went round to my friend’s house at lunchtime to drop off her son’s birthday present - illicitly went through the house and we sat in the garden and had a drink and a chat. It was lovely seeing her in person rather than on a screen. Then I came home to find our local chat group has gone full dementor - considered playing dementor bingo but couldn’t be arsed ... will have to snooze that one too ...

Insertwitticismhere · 02/06/2020 22:07

Ah, the sanest corner of the internet! I’ve found you once more. Been lurking for ages but breaking cover so I don't lose you again....these threads move fast!
Dd2 went back to nursery yesterday she was so full of joy when I picked her up I wept! Not even ashamed to say so!

Clemmieandareallybigbunfight · 02/06/2020 22:07

Some twat has implemented a one way system on the corridor at work. It's a frigging hospital! We've been dodging death since March but now we have to do a lap of honour to get to the loo? And I've got something wrong with a tooth, loose I think. Of course no dentist open. AND all this schools open not open bollocks is getting on my nerves.

Orangeblossom78 · 02/06/2020 22:08

Just had a lovely email from school about start next week saying they are looking forward to small steps towards a bit of normality and seeing the children, said to pack rain coat and sun hat as outdoors will be essential in all weathers- all sounds good.

Theredjellybean · 02/06/2020 22:08

I have my d goddaughter aged four a hug and kiss today.. While I was visiting her.. Inside the house...

I expect I have murdered a small town in Surrey..

I then drove back to Cornwall were I am in lock down at our second home.. Thus I have probably brought the plague with me and Cornwall hospital will shortly go up in flames..

Willow2017 · 02/06/2020 22:12

Shambling onto the beach with my towel to mark my spot.
Which ways the ice cream van and the coffee shop?
Hi Hester its like the blind leading the blind isnt it? Nobody wants to agree about anything you would think positive steps would be welcomed.
Rain finally came early pm but its booming hot. Need a storm to clear the air.

Wish to hell they would organise high schools going back. My ds is getting frustrated trying to do S4/5 work at home for all his science subjects plus English and maths. They changed the system once to having all work in by fridays and it being set mondays. Now they have 3 days to do it all in! He is also supposed to be at college for practical engineering work how the hell is he going to make that time up?
Grumpy over.

Orangeblossom78 · 02/06/2020 22:12

I live in the city centre and all evening hear whooping too, gangs of teens getting pissed, sounds quite fun. We had a band in the park too the other evening (not a brass one - some teens quit good) also a ferrari rally haha!

NothingIsWrong · 02/06/2020 22:12

Oooh another thread! I've been off SM and sewing my patchwork all evening, so you've all been nattering without me...

Anti dementor news here - my district council has reported 1 new covid case in the last 6 days. And the next one over has 0 cases in the last 6 days. I am hopeful and happy.

Plus I got shit loads done at work today because I was on site and not at home with the kids

Also, I have gin. And I really want to see the black spun wool!

Willow2017 · 02/06/2020 22:17

Grumpy? Ffs Grump!

UnderTheBus · 02/06/2020 22:19

@BarkandCheese

28 days? Ffs.

DH was saying that the conservatory need cleaning again, and it felt like ages ago he’d done back at the beginning of lockdown. I pointed out it was ages ago, it’s getting close to three months now. Three months, that’s a quarter of a year, a whole season. It’ll be another three months after that before DD even has a sniff of going back to school.

My daughter was born on 23rd March. I can't believe she is 10 weeks old now and has only seen lockdown. She has never been in a building which wasnt our house or the doctors surgery, has never been held by anyone but me, my husband and my mum, and hasnt met most of the family. We did go to see my grandparents today to meet her for the first time which was lovely, but they couldn't have a cuddle obviously.
Weedsnseeds1 · 02/06/2020 22:24

Had a zoom meeting with a colleague in Mauritius, where I should have been working for most of June. They've had 335 cases, 10 deaths and 2 cases in the last 30 days, which were imported, awiftly quarantined and no further transmission.
Lockdown fully lifted.
They had no cases in their factories, despite it being a labour intensive environment and having contracted labourers who live in company provided accommodation.
They seem to have controlled it well, despite being densely populated and a very touristy island.

justasking111 · 02/06/2020 22:31

Took DS up to a friends house this evening, this time last year they were all doing A levels. Today they met up outside on his friends farm shared a few beers and talked for nine hours. It is the first time DS has been out with friends since 19th March. He had a great time I am so happy for him. Smile

His wicked mum visited DILs and sat indoors chatting this afternoon. Guess half of the county is doomed now Grin

DrearyWallAntler · 02/06/2020 22:31

I thought the 21 day review was written into the legislation?

DianneWhatcock · 02/06/2020 22:43

Placemarking

Not having a good time atm. My 11 year old dd is going from bad to worse. She is clearly depressed, very anxious, not eating and can't sleep. She is already tiny but has lost weight. She cries all the time. I am considering contacting CAHMS

Her school (she's in year 6) are worse than useless absolutely bare minimum communication

3 weeks ago they emailed all the parents to ask if they would send their kids back if they reopened

And then NOTHING

They just don't want them, it's obvious

I can't tell any of my rl friends about this because they are all dementors who don't want to send any of theirs back and no one will give a fuck about her. Just judge me for being a murderer for wanting an education for my kid

DrearyWallAntler · 02/06/2020 22:56

I was right:

I refer to The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020. Section 3(2):

"The Secretary of State must review the need for restrictions and requirements imposed by these Regulations at least once every 21 days, with the first review being carried out by 16th April 2020."

So WTF is Hancock talking about?

DrearyWallAntler · 02/06/2020 23:02

Oh the sneaky sneaky bastards.
They amended it in the The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England)
(Amendment) (No. 3) Regulations 2020.

It is now 28 days.

Do journalists these days do any actual fucking work or are they too busy getting the opinion of fat Mike in Newcastle?

PickAChew · 02/06/2020 23:04

My eyes hurt just thinking about knitting black wool. Purple is bad enough!

Some nasty looking sunburn upthread. I did manage to catch a little, today. Planned a late morning sunblock free for vitamin D shortish (about 35 minutes) stroll with Ds2. Only he wanted to finish looking at a list, or something and booted me out of his room quite forcefully, when I asked him to get his shoes on. Then I had the idea of trying a short cut that would have shaved 5 minutes off our walk, walked through an increasingly narrow path bounded by brambles, nettles and thistles, only to reach a dead end where the path had been blocked with metal barriers at the end of a street of new builds. So we had to retrace our steps only the steep uphill bit was a steep downhill bit that I had to navigate very slowly and carefully, almost ending up sliding down on my arse.

And our walk ended up closer to 50 minutes, after all that and it was getting on for 1pm, when I got home and my cheeks were quite tingly. I'm very fair and usually just stay indoors at that time.

PickAChew · 02/06/2020 23:06

Fat Mike from Newcastle probably spent all day in the queue for ikea, grumbling about the queue.

DrearyWallAntler · 02/06/2020 23:11

The extension was reported in the Sun and the Evening Standard. Both today. A day after the legislation came into force and 5 days after the draft went before Parliament. That's fucking terrible.

And apologies to fat Mike's everywhere. I'm just pissed off.

Willow2017 · 02/06/2020 23:13

Nah they are too busy trolling MN for stories or FB for dementoring hysterics.

Weedsnseeds1 · 02/06/2020 23:27

"Two unions have praised schools across North Somerset for putting the safety of staff and children first by delaying the reopening of schools following an outbreak of coronavirus."
Headline in local rag.
Unless they were planning on taking the pupils on a field trip to Weston Hospital, I don't think this was necessary.

Khione · 02/06/2020 23:28

@Pertella

Spoke to my mum today. She has COPD so has been isolating for the last 12 weeks.

We were chatting about the situation with the kids and she said shes had plenty of years trying to prevent herself from catching anything and is still able to do so now without the whole world stopping. No one gave a fuck about 'keeping her safe' before so why are they so bothered about me now.

With her every step of the way.
Clemmieandareallybigbunfight · 02/06/2020 23:30

Well I just had a total meltdown. So sick of this, the school crap, 5be work crap, the can't go to the supermarket without the queue and the frigging screens. The no holiday, the no seeing parents, the no open toilets anywhere, the no proper funeral for our friend who died from cancer. Just sick of it all.
So big cry, large gin (I don't drink) nice chat with my family, now a bath. onwards and upwards.

The frigging one way on the corridor was the last straw I think.

MagdaS · 02/06/2020 23:38

@UnderTheBus I have a 10 week old niece, born on the 18 March. I have not yet even seen her, let alone held her. Nor am I likely to.

I was dementored in the wild today. Was out on site with colleagues - outdoors, socially distanced, and some bloke with a mask round his chin started yelling at us as he came past in the car. I didn’t catch all of it but it included the words ‘before COVID’. He was more likely to give it to us given he was spitting with rage and not wearing his mask properly.

fartingsparkles · 02/06/2020 23:39

@clemmie have a hug. It's all a huge steaming pile of shite. All I keep trying to hold onto to is that every day is one closer to it being over.
