What did you do during the coronacon Nana?
Welol, if you remember we tried to meet up as much possible, some of you helped me with my garden, we met in your garden , or the park or you came down for dinner.
Everyday I planned my escape, which meant my house wasn’t as immaculate as usual as I was often off on a jolly with grandad and boy did we have some fun discovering new places of interest , having Indian picnics in a tree lined car park several times..yes it’ was worth the 40 minute drive Lol
So yes we lived through that time, rather than just existed.
( and we did thoroughly enjoy a riotous VE Day party)

Orangeblossom78 · 03/06/2020 11:24

The only main thing I can think of with war is that both will probably leave people with mental health issues. PTSD from war, possibly some kind of OCD from this.

Dowser · 03/06/2020 11:24

Great wave
Was going to go today ( Northallerton)and meet my dil and her baby but the weather is rubbish.

DominaShantotto · 03/06/2020 11:26

@HesterShaw1

So in years to come, when I'm a Grandmama, and my grandchildren ask me, wide-eyed, if I've ever broken the law, I shall say Why yes my darlings, I have. In the Great Overreaction of 2020, your step-grandpapa and I deliberately broke the law so that we could be together.

Oh yes me too! Aunty Hester, what did you do in the Time of Coronavirus? Well, actually I didn't do much except count the days away and watch my hard earned cash evaporate. I tried to sign up for NHS volunteering but given that there was nothing for volunteers to actually do in this area on account of the tiny number of infections, I didn't get given any "tasks". I used to meet my boyfriend for a bit of non State sanctioned shagging when we could arrange it.

The kids are really quite enamoured with the idea that in years to come they'll make Horrible Histories skits about it all though. Trying to explain it's a big overblown event which will have historical reverberations was easier explaining it that way!
Drivingdownthe101 · 03/06/2020 11:26

Hmm... mine will be ‘I attempted to care for a toddler who gets up every day between 4.30 and 5.30am and doesn’t nap while homeschooling a 6 and a 4 year old, while also trying to keep my own career going, with little support as your grandfather was working 12 hour days from the office upstairs and it was illegal for your great grandma to enter our house. Oh and we went for lots of walks’.

The OCD implications terrify me. I can see it in DD2 when she's back at school with the somewhat dementory head getting a bit overly flustered by it (she's now terrified of flying things which seems quite common at the moment) - but then again - she's still veering toward just enjoying the excuse to belt out singing Happy Birthday when she washes her hands so I'm not worried too much as she reverted back to being her usual manky self with me quite quickly! (If I can get DD1 to stop leaving the bog unflushed after all of this though I'll be grateful - I'm sick of the phantom log dropper in this house)
HesterShaw1 · 03/06/2020 11:43

Did anyone see Charlie Brooker taling the piss out of singing Happy Birthday twice? He stuck his hands under a tap and sarcastically sang "Happy birthday twice" and turned the tap off

UnderTheBus · 03/06/2020 11:50

I really enjoyed that Charlie Brooker "documentary" Hester, I find his brand of comedy really funny. My husband was in stitches at "Happy birthday twice"

BogRollBOGOF · 03/06/2020 11:51

We have not-so-phantom log droppers too.
Some time ago DS2 disappeared off for his usual prolonged visit to the toilet and skidaddled off upstairs leaving his crimes against nature unflushed. We shouted upstairs to flush the toilet and the dopey twit flushed the nearest upstairs toilet instead Grin At least we haven't had any more sleep walking and mistaking the stairwell for the toilet... I had to scrub every single stair!

Why did I not get nice fictious, compliant children that are hygenic, do nice crafty thing, baking and experiments. At least the colder turn of weather means they are wearing t-shirts and aren't prowling around in shorts like Mogoli Grin

No wonder my sanity is wearing even thinner than usual Wink

It seems that Norway's Prime Minister now thinks that lockdown may have been a mistake. Telegraph article hidden behind paywall, but you can get the beginning!

A bit from Norway's health chief in the Spectator.

It looks as if the Norwegians are addressing the issue of the damage to children, and whether the assumed benefits of lockdown justified it.

Is that the article posted on another thread? The poster and the article were dementored to death! Nobody wants to believe how far they have been led by the nose by a gov who have one rule for them and one for us. And how women and kids have been sacrificed for 'the good of society'. How the gov are sneaking in bills which pass without notice and erode our freedom even more. How a huge % of deaths were nothing to do with covid yet are recorded as such yet Drs are not questioning this, statisticians are not asking where all the other deaths that occur daily in this country have gone? Is nobody dying from pre-existing conditions any more? People are suffering and dying at home because nobody will go near them to treat thier condition or allow them to go to hospital. How the fuck is this ok? Serious health conditions are being ignored till they have complications which are preventable yet our fecking 'glorious nhs heroes' are ignoring them.

The only people benefiting from this are the DCs and his ilk making money from gov contracts for themselves and friends.

What did you do in 2020 granny? I watched in horror as our country became '1984' and the vulnerable and voiceless were sacrificed on the alter of the God of 'The Greater Good'.

TheGreatWave · 03/06/2020 12:14

I am just back from town, it was a truly shit experience and not just with the rain.

So far I have only been to B&M (annoying but doable) and my small local shopping centre which is fine, but town was a whole different matter. I have walked miles as half the entrances to the malls were shut off so I had to walk in almost massive circles. The first mall I walked through I was actually scared as it was so deserted, luckily not much queuing, but I cannot see how it will work when more shops are open, I certainly will be avoiding town for a long time, not because of the fear, but because it will not be enjoyable in any shape or form.

I got bread flour from Sainsbury's though, so that alone made it worth it.

Orangeblossom78 · 03/06/2020 12:22

I resent the way things don't make sense. It is Ok for me to have DH here, but he is going to work and I with the DCs to the school and shops.

But someone can't have a partner to stay. Even though in my situation we also could be 'spreading it around'

It is not OK to stay away in a second home you own yourself. Even if you are there by yourself. You could be popping into a shop there on a day trip, but not stay overnight

It is not do bad to do things if you think, OK that does make sense but it you get the non-sensical rules in combination with politicians and scientists not following those same rules then for me that is when trust falls apart and it descends into farce.

I resented it when it was not having a picnic alone when we live in a flat with no garden, and now it is getting even dafter.

Orangeblossom78 · 03/06/2020 12:25

I have just also had the mad experience of standing in the rain in the doorway of the chemists to pick up a prescription, with the woman in front yelling into her phone "have you been in contact with anyone with covid" at some poor bloke coming to fix her tap. and asking for sterilising milton wipes Chemist advertising different types of mask etc in posters and then the woman barking at me, as the pharmacist called me forward but she had not yet paid. Sorry! No need to be so rude.

Littlebelina · 03/06/2020 12:32

Basketball court update, looks like some replaced the tape again yesterday after Monday's lot was torn down. However it's been torn down again. I wonder when the bloke in the hi vis from the parish council will get bored (must hide my amusement from ds though as maybe laughing at petty acts of defiance isn't the best example).

Dh has emailed school to see if they can take ds so will see what they say

I asked that on another thread and was told that as i was a keyworker it was ok to get physical with my (imaginary) partner who also worked and potentially infect thousands as it was to keep the economy going! But if it was someone outside my house it was basically illegal spreading of disease!!

Cant argue with stupud!

BarkandCheese · 03/06/2020 12:33

The thing about the death certificates is interesting. My grandmother died aged ninety three in a care home, we don’t know exactly what she died of although there was a suspicion she might have had bowel cancer, but she died before her hospital appointment. We were offered a post mortem but said no. She was elderly, frail and in poor health and she died because that’s what happens. I suspect if she’d died now and had tested positive for covid she would have had that on her death certificate.

Willow just daft isn't it.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 03/06/2020 12:36

Schools in wales are reopening! Hallelujah. I’m desperately hoping dd might get some schooling but the additional week clashes with our summer holiday!

countrygirl99 · 03/06/2020 12:37

I totally lost it on one of the dementor threads yesterday. A combination of ages on the phone to IT support and ILs not coping at all well with lockdown. I decided it was best to walk away from Mumsnet for the rest of the day.
Poor MIL is severely disabled and can't do anything other than sit in her wheelchair. The things that make her life tolerable are little trips out and visitors. DH and BIL have been round a few times, but we don't
Live close by, she is heartbroken that she hasn't met her new great grandchild yet and misses friends. Some days she is refusing to get out of bed and FIL is struggling to cope with her depression on top of his own health issues.

Drivingdownthe101 · 03/06/2020 12:38

My mum works at the drs surgery and apparently the vast majority of care home and community deaths in our area are being recorded as Covid even when there have been no symptoms and a negative test.

Littlebelina · 03/06/2020 12:39

Just saw that Wales, so happy for your dd

countrygirl99 · 03/06/2020 12:39

Not sure how the random paragraph break sneaked in

Allflightscancelled · 03/06/2020 12:40

willow it may have been posted on another thread, not sure! I mostly keep away form the dementors ones because they just suck the life out of me!

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 03/06/2020 12:41

Wales back for all years part time trom 29 June. Summer term extended by a week too plus 2 weeks at half term. I'm crying tears of joy.
