Shit! Is there anything I can do? Screwed up Tesco delivery.

My fault...I accidentally sent my (£200) Tesco delivery to our old address.

It’s registering as “delivered”. My son has run around there to see if they’ve taken it all in.

If they have and choose to keep it, what if anything can I do? Tesco customer service is closed at this time of night.

Can’t believe this has happened. We have very little money for more food 😥 I am such a fucking idiot.

OP posts:

"The old house owner has effectively stolen her property."

Do deliveries have a name as well as an address?

If you shop for someone else-do you have to put it in their name?

SpokeTooSoon · 02/06/2020 09:16

If posters keep attacking the OP like this, she’s never going to update the thread.

I want to know what happened!

HoppingPavlova · 02/06/2020 09:17

Well it is theft if they know the property is not for them, and refuse to give it back

The key here is ‘if they know’. If I was out and groceries were delivered DH would think I had ordered them and would put everything away and eat anything of immediate interest. Similarly, if the kids were at home and took delivery they would put it away and stuff straight into anything interesting. So unless the whole thing consists of vegetables and cleaning products you could count on stuff being eaten. None of my household check off invoice or to see all items are present so it would never get picked up that way.

SpokeTooSoon · 02/06/2020 09:18

People questioning the amount. £200 on 80 works out at an average of £2.50 per item. The OP has likely got items costing more than that and items costing less. It’s not improbable to me. People shop differently from each other - some have £200 to spend.

JustHereLooking · 02/06/2020 09:19

When I managed to get a delivery a few weeks ago the driver phoned us about 30 mins before delivering, that was tesco

Katinski · 02/06/2020 09:19

Oh! and I'm obviously an atypical Mumsnet poster.Grin I've never had a problem opening my door late at night, however unexpected. Mind you, I've got a safety chain fitted...

IntermittentParps · 02/06/2020 09:19

Why are people being such twats to the OP? Confused

I hope you resolve it, OP.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 02/06/2020 09:20

No update, really??

DonutCone · 02/06/2020 09:20

If my 12 year old answered the door he would just accept anything handed to him. If they are elderly they could well think it was some shopping ordered by relatives to save them going out. There are tons of explanations, none of them merit anyone knocking on someone else’s door at 11pm.

It's a good job 12 year olds can't accept supermarket deliveries then!

allfalldown47 · 02/06/2020 09:24

@DonutCone shopping deliveries have to be accepted by someone over 18. Dd is 19 and she has been asked for id when she's answered the door.

IAmReportingYouForBBQing · 02/06/2020 09:24

My eleven year old accepts our Iceland delivery all the time 🤷🏼‍♀️

Alwaystwomagpies · 02/06/2020 09:24

I’ve done this before. Was also a very late delivery so I just went round the next day and the people living at old address gave me the food!
Was a bit surprised they had taken it in at all though and weirdly they hadn’t unpacked it (fridge stuff was still in a bag but they had put in fridge) so had obviously assumed I’d come to get it but I couldn’t work out they they hadn’t just refused it?

goodthanks · 02/06/2020 09:25

A&E. NOW.
Just joking. Did you get your food OP?

curtainsforme · 02/06/2020 09:29

The key here is ‘if they know’.

No. The key here is if they have it.

ItsSpittingEverybodyIn · 02/06/2020 09:29

Is this an interesting first post situation?

CorianderLord · 02/06/2020 09:29

They're morally very wrong here. I'd drop a note through the door

diddl · 02/06/2020 09:30

"so had obviously assumed I’d come to get it but I couldn’t work out they they hadn’t just refused it?"

Perhaps they thought that that was easier than you reordering?

Or the deliverer persuaded them that it would be easier?

Squaffle · 02/06/2020 09:30

@heartsonacake Cheers. Enjoy your day Smile

curtainsforme · 02/06/2020 09:33

Who is very wrong? And why are they very wrong? What would you wrote on your note?

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 02/06/2020 09:33
Confused
recycledteenager24 · 02/06/2020 09:33

i wouldn't blameop if she stayed away now the bitchiness and nastiness from some people is incredible.

Bubblewings · 02/06/2020 09:35

Sorry if missed something here but if someone wants to find out if their Tesco grocery order was delivered and accepted or delivered but refused (at previous address), they would contact Tesco who could answer that question immediately. But maybe I’m wrong in assuming this and should rtft?!

Bubblewings · 02/06/2020 09:36

...also OP, I would be furious if they had accepted it, what kind of person could this and sleep at night!

curtainsforme · 02/06/2020 09:37

Sorry if missed something here

Yes, you did. You didn't even need to RTFT either. It is in the OP.

'Customer service is closed'

The thread has obviously developed since then and OP hasn't returned, but the information was given straight away at the time of posting.
