After today's briefing, anyone else half thinking screw it, if Cummings can make up the rules as he goes, why the he'll can't I interpret them as I set fit too?

I have a clinically vulnerable child and have stayed indoors and been so strict the past 12 weeks, but even I'm now beginning to think what's the point? Clearly the govt does what it wants, why the hell should we listen to the govt any more? Lost all faith in them.

Or ‘I can’t do my job without you’

IncrediblySadToo · 24/05/2020 20:06

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

No, but I'd gladly turn it on for him if he couldn't reach

Best (only) laugh I've had all day! 🥂

Cam77 · 24/05/2020 20:07

I’d lay money on B: as neither of them look at all like the best buddies type.

midsomermurderess · 24/05/2020 20:13

Lime and Sodit, it's not a crime to think for yourself. You can try to culture war the hell out of this, all of it, everything, be no netter than a Trump Magahat, but it won't work. All you've got is 'the left...blah blah'.

monkeytennis97 · 24/05/2020 20:15

Absolutely livid. Haven't seen our disabled teenage DS who lives in a care home for more than 8 weeks. It is absolutely killing DH and I.

Experimenopause · 24/05/2020 20:16

monkeytennis97
Oh bless! I can’t even imagine your distress Flowers

monkeytennis97 · 24/05/2020 20:18

I won't go against guidance though. Johnson and Cummings are vile and deserve each other.

monkeytennis97 · 24/05/2020 20:19

@Experimenopause thank you 🙏Thanks

LemmysAceCard · 24/05/2020 20:20

How the hell did he drive 260 miles without getting stopped? In my town you couldn’t even drive to Asda without getting stopped and interrogated by the police at one of the many checkpoints they had set up.
Driving to Asda - big NO
Driving 260 miles for no good reason - aye, go on then

Kljnmw3459 · 24/05/2020 20:21

I can see how some people will think it and act accordingly.

mrsanflowerpot · 24/05/2020 20:22

I am so angry, my husband is frontline and living away. My DS(6) is shielding. I'm SLT at a school. On every single level I am beyond furious. We will continue to shield but feel this is a huge FU from the government and feel totally betrayed and devastated.

buggeroffvirus · 24/05/2020 20:24

Boris has made the school boy error of thinking that he is dealing with fools

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/05/2020 20:25

@IncrediblySadToo GinGinGin

Bluntness100 · 24/05/2020 20:29

I don’t really understand your point op. Why would you risk your child because of politics?

I also think it would have been much better for Boris to say “they both had Covid and were deeply concerned about their children and who would care for them, so they took this decision, it was the wrong decision and he made a mistake, but I am going to keep him on because he knows he panicked, he felt ill and was worried about his kids, he got it wrong. He self isolated when there and put no one else at risk.

What concerns me is I think Cummings also broke the rules at other times too.

Boris has fought down worse, let’s face it, proroguing Parliament, lying to the queen, his rampant shagging, etc, and the mans still standing. I suspect he knows in a few days people will stop talking about this too.

AlexTheLittleCat · 24/05/2020 20:32

I'm not going to stop following the rules. I don't want to put anyone at risk and I don't want to be in lockdown for longer.

I am angry with his behaviour. Despicable thing to do. We should all strive to be better than him (I realise this is not difficult). I feel for all the people who have had to go through terrible things alone. The poor 13 year old boy who died alone. His poor parents. People who have had to go through grief alone. People who haven't seen their families in two months.

What if he had given his parents coronavirus? His uncle died of it, let's hope the source wasn't Dominic. Also, what if he stopped on the way and gave it to someone else? Did they really drive all the way to Durham with a small child without stopping at services?

ToffeeYoghurt · 24/05/2020 20:33

I think this is the first time I've agreed with you @Bluntness100.

chopc · 24/05/2020 20:37

I don't understand posts like these - why would anyone not want to do the best for their own family irrespective of the government advise or what other people are doing?

Not so sure, with all of the above, few people cared less, it didn't affect them but this does, we were given an instruction STAY at HOME blah blah blah but it seems that it didn't apply to the elite.

People i know who bleed blue tory blood are really pissed off with this, not just Cummings actions but the defence of him.

AwkwardSquad · 24/05/2020 20:40

Even if he had made such a statement, the last line would be a bit of a problem, wouldn’t it? Because it’s looking very much as though he didn’t even self isolate for the full period of time required.

AwkwardSquad · 24/05/2020 20:44

Got to agree with this: I suspect he knows in a few days people will stop talking about this too.

They’ll wait it out, play a tune from the Trump playbook, cry ‘fake news’. Then watch out for a distraction in a couple of days.

Driving with your child is the one of the most risky things you can do as a parent, driving whilst ill and potentially with a virus that could get very serious within hours, is totally irresponsible, imagine a coughing fit travelling at 70 mph on the A1 ?

He had family in London, seems to me he wanted a break in the country with his extended family, rather than being in anonymous city.

randomer · 24/05/2020 20:50

@alex the cat. that poor lad

toinfinityandlockdown · 24/05/2020 20:53

It's evident from the behaviour of those with all the information that the actual rules are in fact much stricter than required in order to stop people 'going over board'. It probably never required us to stop seeing a small handful of relatives who were of low risk, they just didn't trust us not to have parties if they said you can see your sister and your best friend.

PissOffStayAtHomeDogMum · 24/05/2020 20:53

@SecondStarFromTheRight Oh for goodness' sake. Yes, I know there is a castle there. I live very near to Durham. I also know that DC wasn't staying in said castle. I can't bear the man, but I also detest the idea that he could be pilloried for staying in a castle, when he didn't.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 24/05/2020 20:53

Exactly- and for many families, the best thing is to have contact due to deteriorating mental health issues which is why for some people, social isolation poses more risk to their health than covid does
