Anyone else think F&@@ it after today's briefing?

After today's briefing, anyone else half thinking screw it, if Cummings can make up the rules as he goes, why the he'll can't I interpret them as I set fit too?

I have a clinically vulnerable child and have stayed indoors and been so strict the past 12 weeks, but even I'm now beginning to think what's the point? Clearly the govt does what it wants, why the hell should we listen to the govt any more? Lost all faith in them.

@toinfinityandlockdown Your post says everything I have thought all along.

toinfinityandlockdown · 24/05/2020 20:53

I have kept completely to the rules, but I'm no long convinced that the cost of doing that is worth it.

TheHighestSardine · 24/05/2020 21:03

Well, looks like the trick worked. Here you all are going "If it's good enough for them to scoot around the country shedding virus, it's good enough for me! I'll get back to work and put the kids back in school, everything will be fine".

And now if there is a massive second wave, it'll be the people's fault, not Johnson's. Slow clap everyone, well done.

ToffeeYoghurt · 24/05/2020 21:05

it'll be the people's fault, not Johnson's.

PhilCornwall1 · 24/05/2020 21:07

they just didn't trust us not to have parties if they said you can see your sister and your best friend.

Just like a larger amount of people than before won't trust a thing any of them say now. They've really messed this up, but I'm not at all surprised.

ListeningQuietly · 24/05/2020 21:08

If you are angry about how Cummings has behaved
PLEASE EMAIL YOUR MP
www.parliament.uk/get-involved/contact-your-mp/
fill their in boxes
let them know that we would love to see our parents / grandparents / children / friends
but didn't because the law told us not to

the law that does not appear to apply to Cummings and his family

JinglingHellsBells · 24/05/2020 21:09

No, I don't. And if I did I could be responsible for thousands of deaths.

littlebillie · 24/05/2020 21:10

No still being careful.

SuncreamInTheWinter · 24/05/2020 21:11

OP what you have said makes no sense. If you had said all fit and v v healthy and want to say fuck it then I can see your point.

Having a clinically vulnerable child is still same risk regardless of him being a knob.

But I agree with the anger and sentiment in general. Utter knob.

SomewhereEast · 24/05/2020 21:15

On one level I'm not angry about what Cummings did. I'm actually angry that he & his family allowed themselves to assess risks and make choices, while the rest of us weren't allowed to do that. Same with Ferguson & his girlfriend. I think its part of a much wider tendency to treat the public like small children who allegedly need to scared or cajoled or bribed into 'good behaviour'.

ktp100 · 24/05/2020 21:15

Because they're cunts we should all be cunts?!

Yeah, no!!

katmarie · 24/05/2020 21:17

OP I understand your point, I'm furious too, and wondering just how important these rules really are if so many senior people can disregard them. I miss my parents dreadfully, as does my DS, I haven't seen them for nearly 3 months. My dad is in his mid 70's and has already had one cancer scare, I'm terrified I'm never going to see him again, and seriously wondering whether adhering to the lockdown is really so necessary if the likes of Dominic Cummings can drive halfway up the country to visit his family, would driving 20 miles to see mine be so bad? And then I have to weigh that against the risk to my parents health and the guilt I'd feel if I made them ill. I've made the decision that we are going to completely isolate for two weeks, and then assuming we're all symptom free, we're going to see them. We will maintain social distancing, but it will do my mental health the world of good, and the same for my parents, and I will be able to see with my own eyes how they are doing.

MorrisZapp · 24/05/2020 21:17

Up here in Scotland our chief medical advisor did much the same, and due to public outrage was ultimately sacked.

There was no spike, no second wave, no rioting, no sudden outbreak of parties or playdates. Most people don't copy bad behaviour from government figures, they hold them to account.

Barnard Castle is not in Cumbria.

It's also not a castle.

I'm absolutely furious at this shambles of a Government, lying, arrogant, entitled, smug bastards

PissOffStayAtHomeDogMum · 24/05/2020 21:32

@Bluntness100

I suspect he knows in a few days people will stop talking about this too

I think this is, unfortunately, true. Which is why he will get away with it.

Sameold2020 · 24/05/2020 21:40

I don't think enough has been made about him being in a confined space with his child whilst they were experiencing covid symptoms. It would be any parent's instinct to isolate themselves away from their child, not be in prolonged, confined contact. His actions were completely selfish on all levels.

Idododoidadada · 24/05/2020 21:40

No I don’t. Because I love my family and have a shielded person at home that I don’t want to die. Just because he’s an idiot why do you think that means everyone else should do it too?

I have a clinically vulnerable child and have stayed indoors and been so strict the past 12 weeks,
Are you saying that will now change because one healthy tosspot didn’t follow the rules?

Your update saying you will send her to live elsewhere if one of you get it- will you be happy sending her,as a possible carrier, into someone else’s home? What if you recover but, people you send her to get ill and die?

Sarahbeans · 24/05/2020 21:42

I have read all posts with interest. Seems it's not just me!

I had been under the impression that if anyone got ill with the virus, we all had to stay in our primary residence and there was no wriggle room / instinct / common sense allowed on this. So thinking we'd all have to live under the same roof, which would be impossible to isolate my child with the health condition.

So we have barely left the house at all, shower / change clothes as soon as we're home etc and I've not let my other child see anyone. This has been really tough on her.

However, now I think that I will let my healthy daughter out to see a friend on an individual basis. And if one of us gets sick with it, the healthy parent will now take the child with health conditions to go and stay with family. That's me using my common sense to do what's right for my family.

@PissOffStayAtHomeDogMum I'm not sure why you're so personally affronted by my comment.
Of course DC didn't stay in the castle, but it still exists.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/05/2020 21:48

@ToffeeYoghurt do you find that this approach has won you many arguments since you left primary school?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/05/2020 21:51

There was no spike, no second wave, no rioting, no sudden outbreak of parties or playdates. Most people don't copy bad behaviour from government figures, they hold them to account.

And if government figures aren't held to account... that's when it all goes to shit in a rather spectacular fashion.

MarshaBradyo · 24/05/2020 21:52

Op a person can have the virus and be asymptomatic and still pass it on. So you may want to factor that in when considering what to do re your dc.

megletthesecond · 24/05/2020 21:53

No.
I'm not lowering myself to their rotten standards.

ToffeeYoghurt · 24/05/2020 21:54

@JesusInTheCabbageVan I've grown up since primary school. Grown out of the 'Muuummmm, I want to do it because so and so did' whine.

AngryPrincess · 24/05/2020 22:05

Nah. Them being irresponsible doesn’t make me want to be less responsible. It’s not fair and it’s hypocritical of them, but I’m not letting anyonecat h CV because of my actions.
