Shite meant to say general in charge dementor

Drivingdownthe101 · 24/05/2020 09:47

I’m off to The Range on my killing spree today!

IcedPurple · 24/05/2020 09:51

Someone over on another thread saying dentists shouldn't open until Sep because they're 'not important'.

I'd swear some of these people would be happy going back to the middle ages with people having lost half of their teeth by the time they were 40. If they lived that long.

Allnamesaregone · 24/05/2020 09:55

What I’m finding interesting is all the talk of anxiety surrounding the furloughed about going back to work, coping strategies etc. I’m wondering if this is because it’s the men who are now affected? Women have been doing this for decades with maternity leave, dealing with worries and just getting on with it. Suddenly it’s become a newsworthy thing!

Drivingdownthe101 · 24/05/2020 09:58

It’s true Allnamesaregone. DH is director level at a bank, with a team below him or around 60 people. He says the ones having issues with anxiety around work are the men. The women are generally just getting on with it, as they’re used to being flexible.

Comingoutontop123 · 24/05/2020 09:58

@Nihiloxica 😂 Not been to Durham (or anywhere except the shop and work) since March because no fucker will meet up! I would have otherwise.

But then I was one of the early murderers in the first few days that was telling concerned parents on MN to have their adult children that were struggling in shitty situations, to come and stay with them for lock down even if they did have to drive a distance. Because I always thought that guidelines needed to be approached sensibly and didn't mean no, not under any circumstances ever.

Murderer, selfish, 'special', psychopath extraordinaire! Not essential! Yet 3 weeks later and with no relaxation of guidelines you had identical threads with a lot more people saying 'I would, bring them home' 😂

MN would be a really good study of how quickly attitudes changed after the initial 'excitement'.

I think Cummings is an arse in general though.

mightbealittlebitmad · 24/05/2020 09:58

I feel like the world has gone entirely mad! People are happy living isolated lives, not being able to see a doctor or a dentist, don't want their kids to have an education and for all of us to sit in our houses all day long.

Recently my friend tried to get a doctor's appointment but she told them she would have to take her children with her. They would allow this to happen so said she would have to go to the hospital with the children to get seen there for something that wasn't an emergency.

It just doesn't make any sense.

Nihiloxica · 24/05/2020 10:06

Oh yeah, Cummings is an arse.

It will be quite amusing if his downfall is going to visit his family rather than the actually nefarious stuff he gets up to.

AnxiousElephant77 · 24/05/2020 10:09

I'm trying not to read the hysterical threads but all this talk of part time schooling in September combined with home learning is really bothering me this morning.

For what it's worth, I hate being furloughed and I want to get back to work. Surely the government can't possibly think this is a reasonable step for the start of the next academic year?

bakingcupcakes · 24/05/2020 10:11

I love blackadder. Haven't watched it for years. Should probably think about digging out the dvd.

I don't have anything to add other than I'd like the madness to stop. It's incredibly windy still here. We didn't leave the house yesterday. Today we need to go and collect shopping from my mums.

I've confirmed DS (yr1) will be returning if school opens on the 8th. My family think I'm mad as I probably won't be back at work then. I don't know what to do about work. I could work a short day while he was at school but the summer holidays are looming and if there's no childcare then I don't know what I'll do. I just can't face the idea I'll be off work for 6months. I'm terrified they'll get rid of me and I don't know where I'd get another job for similar pay in the current climate.

Ready4abreak · 24/05/2020 10:13

Hi all, been reading these threads for a while and thought it was time to say hello as they have been keeping me sane.

I'm in such a weird position with friends/family. Very left wing as are they all so we normally agree on most things but I'm at complete odds with them all. Possibly as they all have older kids and nice gardens whilst I'm stuck in a flat with a 3 year old and 7 week old!

I'm disgusted at what we are doing to our children (and as someone with Rheumatoid arthritis I am more vulnerable than others but willing to look at the stats and decide its not a gigantic risk). My son started nursery in January and had just settled properly when lockdown came. It has really affected him and being in Scotland there is no chance of him back before August and reading about blended learning and the conditions they are going back to doesn't sound like he will be getting any sort of normality then either. He needs playpark, nursery and to play with other kids.

On a happier note one of the nursery tasks set was to play party games so we threw him a party yesterday which meant going to the supermarket for the very non essential stuff of party food and pass the parcel prizes. He had a ball and it was wonderful to see. Goodness knows how many people I killed for it though!

soruff · 24/05/2020 10:14

Sooo pleased to have found this thread, what a breath of fresh air.

DH says what he is nostalgic for, is a smoke filled crowded back room of a pub reeking of old beer. Like they had when he was a lad! Or has he been watching Talking Pictures too much and adopted a false memory!
Keep up the opinions they are all better than the GroupThink propaganda spread by BBC.

Nihiloxica · 24/05/2020 10:17

It's a Tory government.

Making school (particularly secondary where there are few childcare implications) part time as the default will allow for expansion of Oak Academy-style e-learning. It's a real opportunity to get your hands on public money if you are well placed.

Part time school in September is nowhere near justified by the actual risks.

But they deliberately scared the country and they will capitalise on that where they can.

If teachers and parents don't start kicking up about this reduction in their entitlements, I think this could damage education in this country permanently.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 24/05/2020 10:20

Checking in.

No murderous plans here for today. I'm feeling a bit flat and can't be bothered to do anything. If the kids and husband weren't here I'd just stay in bed. Really feeling the loss of the good weather; being able to spend the day in the garden was at least something.

Sorry to be glum.

littlbrowndog · 24/05/2020 10:23

Part time school. Wtaf is that about.

You get a blasting off the school for having a kid of for a few days. As it affects their future

But now it s ok for our kids to go to school a couple of days a week

How are we meant to go back to work
Well that’s if I have a job left

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 24/05/2020 10:24

Checking in, meeting another family tomorrow for a picnic hopefully. Just posted that Critic article on facebook but doubt anyone will read it. It’s had to tell what it is about from the link.

Bollss · 24/05/2020 10:25

So many posters saying "well im alright" in regards to women's position in the workplace. I feel like saying well fucking bully for you but that doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist. I'm sick and fucking tired of being told it's all my fault for not having a higher paying career and ensuring my wage could pay all the bills. Angry

Nihiloxica · 24/05/2020 10:25

I'm going for a walk with friends this evening.

Not sure how murderous that is since it's allowed.

I'm hoping to break lockdown by going to visit family tomorrow. They might have other lockdown-breaking plans with family on the other side, so need to see if they are free Grin

We were all observant of lockdown untill this weekend too. The tide us turning.

Mascotte · 24/05/2020 10:26

Hello, everyone and new people!

I see there are more Scots: I'm wondering if it's because in Scotland you really can't say anti SNP stuff publicly without being branded an English loving Tory murderer? 😂

GeraltOfRivia · 24/05/2020 10:28

I am in a car park at the local dog waking spot. My friend is on her way. I cannot wait!

BakewellTarts · 24/05/2020 10:28

Hello my lovely culters.

Just been watching Andrew Marr completely agree with him "You can keep Cummings or you can keep the policy."

I am enjoying them tieing themselves up in knots to defend his actions. Even ardent Tory Brexiteers are now calling for him to go.

Also sensible article on risk on the BBC. Maybe we are seeing the turning of the tide?

BarkandCheese · 24/05/2020 10:28

My DH is spitting feathers over Dominic Cummings this morning. I don’t think it’s so much the lockdown breaking thing but more the constant reminders of the mere existence of him Grin . He’s gone off to bake banana bread to calm himself down. Meanwhile DD has just gone off to meet her bestie in the park. I’m so glad, she hasn’t spent any real life time with anyone her age since lockdown, it’s going to do her the world of good.

Extended blended learning is a chilling idea. It will cause the attainment gap to become an attainment chasm if it goes on too long.

Mascotte · 24/05/2020 10:29

Oh, and to add to the good news on stars (thanks for that latest BBC link) Prof Karol Sikora tweeting that the Oxford vaccine people thinking there's maybe not enough virus in the community to test the vaccine properly, which could mean its dying out.

Nihiloxica · 24/05/2020 10:29

That thread is ridiculous, Trust.

I had to ignore it when it got to arguments like

"Well, it's just a coincidence that your husband earns more." Hmm

Mumsner has some of the smartest feminists going. They're just not engaging with that thread because it is just stupid people agreeing with each other's stupid opinions.

Mascotte · 24/05/2020 10:29
