Orangeblossom exactly and I know an awful lot of those visitors are Chinese, it's a standard stop off on their "grand tour".
Equally stag and hen parties with no social distancing and hanging off every lamp post and door handle in sight!
We aren't being overrun by disease ridden hoards of Midlanders, who are mysteriously asymptomatic, yet carrying a strain of the virus so virulent that you are hospitalised and at deaths door within a week of hearing a Brummie accent, yet this is what the locals would like us to believe.
They can't blame the Welsh for once, as they're getting tazered at the bridge, which must be a bitter disappointment to the pitchfork wielding, witchfinder persuivant types that live here.

Littlebelina · 26/05/2020 08:01

We got dd's feet measured just before lockdown as sensed it was coming. Hasn't stopped her feet growing in the meantime. We ended up just ordering the next size up and hoping for the best.

We've been following the rules because what else can we really do? Family live 200m+ away and the village busy bodies are enough to suck any pleasure out of doing anything locally. Have been walking for longer than an hour but that was never against the rules

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 08:04

I have to say I'm not missing the hen parties, or packs of tourists Weeds, it is a bit like the locals have reclaimed the city. To be honest many tourist groups just as you say stop off here, spend no money just visit the baths and crescent then hop back on the bus. I wonder about the christmas market this year which used to be quite nice but now just seems to go on and on and the same stalls each year. the council will miss the money but many of the locals will not miss that if it is cancelled this year

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 08:05

and I don't mean any of that due to the virus just in general!

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 08:07

Oh I just realised it would probably be an open air market which is allowed now so would be able to go ahead. Will Bath mind the bus loads from Wales? bringing the virus to our city? Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 08:08

Little you can buy feet measuring devices online they are not expensive.

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/05/2020 08:10

I tried to go to the market last year, Orangeblossom and discovered it had finished the week before, oh well!

Littlebelina · 26/05/2020 08:12

Also to say, I was supportive of some form of lockdown initially. I think the government got the balance right allowing exercise outside. A Spanish style lockdown would have been too far. However now it does need to be lifted (in stages) and we need to ensure children's needs are met (by opening schools and playgrounds).

Weedsnseeds1 · 26/05/2020 08:12

Orangeblossom the Welsh will be nailed into their homes at Christmas, to stop them buying turkeys and spreading contagion via Christmas presents, so you'll be fine Grin

Littlebelina · 26/05/2020 08:14

I couldn't get hold of one orange for love nor money at the time. Most of the decent looking ones had sold out (presumably everyone was doing the same).

Delta1 · 26/05/2020 08:22

Some people are enjoying living in a (very boring version of) a disaster movie way too much

That's exactly it @Nihiloxica and/or it's because their lives are joyless and dull in normal times too and now they don't have to worry about fomo .... feel a bit sorry for them really.

countrygirl99 · 26/05/2020 08:27

bogrollbogoff I had a few rows with people over the 1 hour "rule". I'm lucky I live in a rural area with masses of footpaths and bridleways but the ones immediately around the village are dog walking favourites and fairly busy. They also have plenty of gates. If I go for a lovely 5-6 mile walk I barely see a soul once I leave the village and often the only gate I touch is my garden gate. Apparently I should have stuck to the busier, gated routes to avoid killing people.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 08:29

Little just read more on shoes here www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/coronavirus-shoes-tried-on-in-reopened-shops-will-be-quarantined-for-24-hours-skqf3d3jm

seems we can try them on but need to use hand gel and pop socks and they get quarantined afterwards

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 08:30

more news here

At cabinet yesterday Mr Johnson told ministers about plans to allow people to hold barbecues and garden parties at the end of next month with limited numbers of guests. The move is part of plans to allow people to mix with a “bubble” of friends and family. The prime minister also said that the British grand prix would go ahead in July.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 08:31

next month June so not long there

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 08:33

Child slave labour weeds Hmm

Grand prix? does anyone even go to that? Confused

Jourdain11 · 26/05/2020 08:34

Hiya, how is everyone doing? My DC are back - arrived yesterday with grandpa in the car. Unlike Dominic Cummings's son though, my 4-yo DS did not manage to do the journey without stopping to use the facilities.

I'm anxiously waiting for my bone marrow biopsy results to learn what's the plan with the chemo. Unfortunately I've been very sick this morning, so having to stay in bed. DC woke up at about 6 and have been bouncing off the walls ever since, hopefully DH manages to take them out to the park for a bit soon! 😂

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 08:35

More on the joys of shopping:

Customers will be encouraged to use hand sanitiser and advised not to pick up items as they browse. Clothing stores have been told to shut fitting rooms where possible, other than for the purpose of enabling staff to change into protective clothing. Shops will be required to follow the example of supermarkets by ensuring that staff are behind protective screens and surfaces will have to be cleaned regularly.

Stores will be required to store returned items for 72 hours before putting them back on sale. They will also be required to place protective coverings on items frequently touched by the public, such as beds and sofas, and regularly clean items that are touched.

Shops will be required to follow strict social distancing rules and store owners could face fines or two years in jail for breaches. They will be required to take “reasonable steps” to ensure that customers can follow the two-metre social distancing rules. These include limiting the number of people allowed in stores and managing queues outside their stores to ensure that they do not cause a risk to other people in their own right.

Orangeblossom78 · 26/05/2020 08:36

Jourdain Flowers hope you get a break soon and you made it back Ok

Nihiloxica · 26/05/2020 08:37

Sorry you are feeling rough, Jourdain.

I hope the biopsy results are favourable. When do you find out?

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/05/2020 08:39

What a pleasant experience all that sounds Orangeblossom78! Can’t wait Grin.
Garden parties from the end of June? Fantastic Hmm.

SomewhereEast · 26/05/2020 08:41

As a parent I just desparately want my kids to be able to play with their friends & for playgrounds and outdoor attractions like zoos to reopen. We've actually started quietly meetinh up with another family we're friendly with just to give the kids some socialisation (its the only rule we've broken). Family isn't that relevant to us for all sorts of mostly geographical reasons, but time with friends would be brilliant! I find it mystifying that I'll be able to go to fucking Next but my 8yo still won't be able to go to school or the playground or to see most of his friends.

Jourdain11 · 26/05/2020 08:46

It should be mid-week. I just hope they are going to show some progress! I feel so sick and keep throwing up, which always makes me feel a bit sorry for myself Wink

I think my DC have set up a "Red Indian Camp" (Native American Camp?). One positive thing from this situation, it is lovely to see them playing with each other like this. Not that they didn't like each other before, but they all had their own friends and activities and didn't interact anywhere near so much.

Drivingdownthe101 · 26/05/2020 08:47

What I don’t really understand about the friends and family stuff over here is that in Spain, who have always supposedly been 2 weeks ahead of us in the pandemic, they have been allowed to go into each other’s houses, see friends, go to restaurants etc for the past 2 weeks. SIL and BIL had a hot tub party last night, completely allowed under the rules as it was a gathering of fewer than 10 people! They all (PIL’s, SIL and BIL) ate together at the golf club on Sunday lunch. Why are we so far behind them in rules around seeing family and friends?
