Do any other manfolk write like this or just mine?

Everything in capital letters. But the first letter of the sentence (where the only capital letter should be in my opinion) is slightly larger than the rest.

I thought he just did this on the shopping list but I’ve just seen some of his work notes and it turns out it’s everything.

And now that I’m thinking about it my dad does exactly the same.

Anyone else?!

My DH writes lists or shopping lists in capitals. Hes not an engineer. Hes dyslexic, but spells phoenetically.
A pet hate is a word written in capitals but with a small i. For some reason I find it really annoying!!

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 23/05/2020 08:04

GCSE Graphics or Technical Drawing might have something to do with it.

(Or reading Marvel Comics from the 1960s onwards)

SallyWD · 23/05/2020 08:06

My DH does. It's because his handwriting is extremely messy and it's easier to read when in capitals. He's a professor but just can't write neatly! It's caused problems in the past when he's written a case specific password for me but put it all in capitals!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 23/05/2020 08:07

I am manfolk, and I don't.

Manfolk: a tribe of primitive beings dressed mostly in illfitting blue cotton/polyester, given to excited hooting when they see bacon.

molifly14 · 23/05/2020 08:08

Yep!! Not sure if it's s construction thing?

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 23/05/2020 08:09

Sorry, now I've read properly. The way to draught plans before computers were used was to do it by hand.

There was a precise format. Which included the rule to write like this for eligibility.

It was taught when Graphics GCSEs were separate to Art, Technology, Product Design, etc.

MairzyDoats · 23/05/2020 08:11

I write in all caps (small, neat) and recently realised that my brother and sister do too. No idea why, my dad's handwriting is lovely.

ElizabethMainwaring · 23/05/2020 08:11

An ex of mine did. Uni lecturer in English.
Husband, retired builder, does sometimes. Left handed so it's more legible in capital letters.
Father, retired accountant, prints in lower case. His hand writing is lovely (as is mine!)

FinallySleeping · 23/05/2020 08:19

My father is an engineer and has really beautiful writing. My DH's is a little spiky for my taste but otherwise perfect.

I would honestly find it incredibly odd if either of them wrote in capitals all the time! It's never really occured to me that people would write that way but I suppose generally we see less and less script as time goes on.

GCSE Graphics or Technical Drawing

Yes, I was just going to say we were taught to do this at school. Half the lesson was taken up putting the border round the edge of the page, then another line across the bottom for where the title, date etc would go. Then a very specific way of writing the title etc.

Finally once the paper was ready, we could draw whatever was on the lesson that day!

CAD software hadn't made it as far as schools then

GuppytheCat · 23/05/2020 08:32

I do caps/small caps if I want to be legible.

I must be a closet manfolk.

GuppytheCat · 23/05/2020 08:34

Just read Disgrace’s post (hope the gorgeous grandson is doing well?).

I got excitedly at bacon, too.

GuppytheCat · 23/05/2020 08:35

Got = hoot. My phone is weird.

Livingthecovidaloca · 23/05/2020 08:39

DH writes in capitals, and if it’s a plain piece of paper or a card, will always write on top of a ruler.

OhArsebags · 23/05/2020 08:40

My dad writes in capitals, I Thought it was an age thing - he’s 85 and says it’s from his Air Force days.

VictoriaBun · 23/05/2020 08:43

Been with my dh 20 years and I don't know !
Will have to find some on his desk and report back Blush

ProudMarys · 23/05/2020 08:43

No 😂 but if they did I think they were shouting as a read it.

dirtyfries · 23/05/2020 08:46

My DH who studied engineering exclusively writes in capitals. My DB who is more creative has terrible doctors scribble.

thatcarolebaskinbitch · 23/05/2020 09:06

Yep my dad and DP both do it, both engineers too...

StormBaby · 23/05/2020 09:09

My dad does. Aeronautical engineer. Must be a 'thing' .

Cherrysoup · 23/05/2020 10:22

Shopping lists all in capitals. Not an engineer or dyslexic.

Crosswordocelot · 23/05/2020 10:52

It would take me so long to write anything if I had to write in capitals!!

HaddawayAndShite · 23/05/2020 10:55

I used to in high school until I got told off. Sometimes still do if I’m taking phone messages or lists.

OhCantThinkOfANewName · 23/05/2020 11:47

My dad does, I thought it was a requirement of completing betting slips (a lot) and just carried over to everything else Grin
