Our bosses sent an email today saying there's bugger all new business at the moment, so we can expect to be on furlough until things pick up Sad I love my job. It might not be glamorous or exciting but it's interesting (to me).

Jourdain11 · 23/05/2020 18:12

DH said he just saw a kid from down the road who plays with my DDs marching out of their front door (with suitcase!) declaring that he was leaving home! And then having a meltdown on the doorstep when his mum wouldn't open back up the door. Poor thing Sad I think lockdown is getting to a lot of people!

(Mind you, my sister did used to do that almost every Sunday when we were kids...)

countrygirl99 · 23/05/2020 18:13

It's like 1960s/70s Sundays. Even listening to the radio the other week reminded me of Worldwide Family Favourites.

Nihiloxica · 23/05/2020 18:13

Remember when it used to take a village to raise a child?

A lot of the lockdown sentimentalists used to love that.

Now toddlers are only allowed to interact with their parents and siblings. Hmm

UnderTheBus · 23/05/2020 18:15

@AnotherEmma that's good news, I bet he will love being back at nursery even if it is a bit different. Our nursery and preschool arent opening yet but luckily my DD is quite compliant!

thenightsky · 23/05/2020 18:15

I know what you mean about it being like a 70s Sunday. I'm waiting for Sing Something Simple with the King Singers to come on at 7pm.

AnotherEmma · 23/05/2020 18:18

UnderTheBus
Thank you, yes it's excellent news, relieved hardly covers it! He enjoys nursery (well he did before lockdown, I expect he'll need a bit of time to readjust) and we definitely need the break. Compliant is not a word we would ever use to describe him Confused We've had ups and downs with him throughout lockdown and we're on a definite down, sadly. Glad things are a bit easier with your DD atm.

Littlebelina · 23/05/2020 18:31

Another one disappointed about missing a holiday. We should be sitting by the beach sipping wine now. Instead we went for a walk (and found my neighbour parks wherever the hall he likes in other locations too which did amuse me slightly!). This week isn't great for us for historic reasons and escaping on holiday helps. But not this year Sad. Already missed a trip to see family as well.

Might have to chat to work again about going in at least one day a week to give me a break. DH is supportive and there is stuff I can do which I can't from home. We are also relieved about nursery AnotherEmma. I'll miss dd and it only solves half our problem but it will make things so much easier. Keeping my fingers crossed nothing fucks it up.

heroku · 23/05/2020 18:36

Just had a chat with a wonderful primary teacher friend who really perked me up. She can't wait to get back in to teach saying "I'm young, I'm healthy and I consider myself a key worker - I have a duty to those kids". Unfortunately all her teacher colleagues are dementors though and are putting massive pressure on the HT saying it's not safe for them to return.

She was saying she's really worried about some of the kids in her class being stuck at home for so long. Particularly one girl who lives in a tiny one bed flat with 4 siblings. It breaks my heart to think about it.

justasking111 · 23/05/2020 18:42

You can look at clothes in M&S wow, when I passed by last week it said food hall only in Llandudno. It did look very dark too.

Our fish chip supper was enjoyed by OH and DS, I am not such a big chippy fan. Did discover though that the pub in Conwy that sells craft ales, was selling draught beer decanted into bottles that you could buy through a hatch. It felt so odd going back home with the food we would normally sit on the quay and look out over the river, not allowed now. boo hoo.

justasking111 · 23/05/2020 18:43

Forgot to say the lady in the chippy when I said only 6 deaths in Wales yesterday said oh but the figures are rising you know. Bloody Drakeford and his brainwashing, how do you explain to people that the figure is higher because they were testing for the first time last week.

KaronAVyrus · 23/05/2020 18:46

Popped into M&S last week and it was absolutely rammed with 80 yr olds. 🤔 didn’t buy anything just marvelled at the price.

savehalloween · 23/05/2020 19:07

Sorry if this has been done to death, I've been off the thread most of the day but I have no idea how they expect to be able to continue this farce after the Cummings thing.

Oops sorry about the double post.

Also this amused us today. "We have deliberately not defined" could be the new "stay home, save lives" strap line for Wales

Kids are back - DD2 is slightly brighter but still very tearful and missing her friends, DD1's calmed down a notch but again, still very volatile... they're not themselves and they're clearly finding life very very hard. That's AFTER time escaping to the grandparents - what the hell are we doing to the kids in flats with no escape?!

There's just not an end in sight - aren't we at the end of another 3 week batch of misery (that usually gets dragged out to 3 1/2 or 4 weeks before they actually find Boris and review it) soon?

Weedsnseeds1 · 23/05/2020 19:31

Today I have been to local supermarket to get sausages for breakfast, the top, non-local supermarket for vegetables and the garden centre.
I have just sent OH to the local supermarket for tonic as I forgot to buy any, then we are collecting an Indian takeaway.
If I don't post again, sent help, I'm in Azkaban....

Weedsnseeds1 · 23/05/2020 19:31

Tip not top

Dowser · 23/05/2020 19:31

Eventhough it piers Morgan
I love this headline

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8350403/Piers-Morgan-issues-ultimatum-Boris-Johnson-telling-sack-Dominic-Cummings-TODAY.html

Cheered me up no end.

I’m imagining loads of morganites stocking up their cars and heading off down the motorways.

Maybe Boris darent sack Cummings as he knows where the bodies are buried

BakewellTarts · 23/05/2020 19:37

@Drivingdownthe101 and @BogRollBOGOF! Markeaton Park was my childhood playground. My brother and sister and I used to cycle down the very steep cresent hill and spend days / weeks there. My mum still lives nearby. She had said that the car parks had been shut so not sure if thats still true.

KaronAVyrus · 23/05/2020 19:37

We’ve had the CMO of Scotland (can’t remember her name), Ferguson and Cummings all ignoring the rules that why have imposed on us. They clearly thought it was a farce too. I can absolutely guarantee you that if we were dealing with Ebola they would have obeyed the lock down to the letter.

BakewellTarts · 23/05/2020 19:38

Piers Morgan is not my favourite journo but couldn't agree more.

I have been musing that this might be the trigger for the end of lockdown. Even dementors in my FB feed have been making sarky comments about this.

Drivingdownthe101 · 23/05/2020 19:42

BakewellTarts hello!
I love Markeaton Park. I’ll have a look on their Facebook page and see if they’ve reopened car parks!

BakewellTarts · 23/05/2020 19:42

Oh and I should be in Porto right now sipping Port by the Douro. Yes I'm sad that I'm still in the UK.

Even sadder that the long planned visit from my brother and his family at Easter couldn't happen.

I am shallow.

rosettesforjill · 23/05/2020 19:43

Did a 2m apart... ish... visit to a mum friend with some other mum friends today. All very normal and sensible people and all starting to rebel in small ways, driving to see parents, having visits from family members etc. People are just sick of it now.
