The petty part of me wants when I get there, to name change on here and post a cocktail selfie on the covid board captioned "Yiamas Malakas!"

IcedPurple · 23/05/2020 15:58

I got abused like you wouldn't believe

Oh, I would believe it.

This crisis has brought out the inner Puritan in so many here. If you're missing something as 'frivilous' as a holiday, a meal out, getting dressed up for the evening.... then you get the "Hello! Global pandemic!" or much worse.

Hope you have a wonderful time in Greece. Such a great country for a holiday. I'm jealous. And yes, do post a picture of yourself enjoying a nice ouzo by the Med!

MinnieMountain · 23/05/2020 16:00

@Jourdain11 Delia Smith's How to Cook might be a good book for your DH. It has very basic things like omelettes and how to cook rice.

MinnieMountain · 23/05/2020 16:04

@IcedPurple that's funny and sad in equal measures. DS currently has more chance of seeing his DGF in Spain than the one in Wales.

rosettesforjill · 23/05/2020 16:10

@LivinLaVidaLoki if I am there in August I will join you with a virtual toast Smile

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/05/2020 16:12

It's a date @rosettesforjill Wine

thenightsky · 23/05/2020 16:36

Does anyone know if Portugal are planning on opening up again soon? Specifically Madeira? I think Tui are giving us until 31st May to be able to move dates free of charge and I'm meant to fly on 29th June. I have to make a decision this week in that case.

Institutkarite · 23/05/2020 16:43

@thenightsky
I'm in Portugal, some restrictions have been lifted, we can now go to a restaurant or a bar, reduced seating capacity. We all have to wear masks indoors, even in restaurants and bars. There is a mini heat wave here so being outside isn't a problem atm. It was 34 here yesterday and it's not much for off that today.
Madeira hasn't had any cases at all so I don't know what the situation is there.
Portugal resident.com is a good resource to find out what's happening. It's in English too.

thenightsky · 23/05/2020 16:46

*@Institutkarite@ Thank you! I'll have a look. I was worried I might get quarantined for 2 weeks when I got there.

Institutkarite · 23/05/2020 16:50

@thenightsky
My information was incorrect, they haven't had any deaths. The airports are shut, the ports are shut as well

duckme · 23/05/2020 16:52

@LivinLaVidaLoki
I'm on a Facebook page specifically for people going or planning on going to Florida. People have been absolutely vilified if they even hint they're upset about the cancellation of their holiday. Every post has a disclaimer that they obviously know they're lucky not to be dead etc. Why aren't we allowed to be bloody miserable because our holiday is cancelled? And god forbid people say they're still hopefully they'll get to go anytime before 2030! How dare they be so flippant with the lives of their children? I honestly can't fathom some people.

HauntedGoatFart · 23/05/2020 17:08

That's an excellent article from The Critic. Although also deeply depressing in that it lays out the very real possibility that lockdown was a giant, colossally expensive mistake. I accepted lockdown when I thought it was a very temporary, say six weeks max, scientifically prudent measure to suppress the peak to manageable levels. And here we still fucking are, and I'm coming to believe that the lockdown was never justifiable. I no longer consent to it, and will no longer observe it. But I need the government and schools to agree and reopen.

This is absolutely where I am. I agreed to protect the nhs by keeping the transmission rate low enough for a few weeks to allow changes to be made and stop the hospitals going under. I didn't sign up to have my life taken away for the next four months until it's somehow "safe".

I hit the fuck it button (can't remember who said that upthread, thanks, great phrase!) today. My parents came in the house for about four hours. It's dd's birthday, and the weather has turned here, so the garden party we'd planned went out the window. I do not care. If I get reported I will just pay the fine.

I just want to do something different. I’m so sick of the “highlight” of the day being going for walk. I’ve got a dog, I do that every day anyway. I want to go out to dinner or the cinema or theatre or just be free to mooch around the shops and have a coffee, but you can’t voice this because it’s “selfish”.

Drivingdownthe101 · 23/05/2020 17:26

Yeah... fuck walking. I’m bored of bloody walking.

My thoughts exactly- I am so with you all on this.

OMG yes! Ive been for a fcking walk every bloody day. I'm sick of it! I want somewhere to walk to

Dowser · 23/05/2020 17:28

We’ve had a bit of Saturday normal
Went to dunelm mill
Lovely
Staff had clear visors on, we wore no masks
Got what we needed
Spotted a unit that will fit our alcove ..and a nest of white glossy tables to match
So they possibly could take in £500 by opening up , instead of me just going what I went for ... an £18 mattress protector
Lol

Drivingdownthe101 · 23/05/2020 17:29

Yes. If I’m going to walk, I want there to be a nice open pub beer garden somewhere en route.

Dowser · 23/05/2020 17:29

Staff dead friendly as well

Dowser · 23/05/2020 17:30

We are planning a picnic tomorrow and we think there’s a take away cafe open also

BogRollBOGOF · 23/05/2020 17:30

It is the lack of anything in the calendar to look forwards to that's making me feel lost in a void of time.

The next possible event in my calendar is an event in September, postponed from March... if it happens and I'm not holding my breath as it is a large scale indoor event. Hopefully... maybe... some autumn races, some deferred, some that are autumn anyway. The optomist in me hopes that being outdoors, attracting fit, healthy people they might be structured with more smaller waves to reduce crowding...

In March and April, the season changed rapidly and the countryside looked different by the week, but even that's a more stable season now with less variations.

We had mooted going to the Canaries at Easter, but were tardy in booking and decided to book a cottage in Wales instead. We got our money back as they cancelled early on due to shielding. Summer was going to be camping, probably Cornwall. There is hope of getting the tents out further than our back gardens, but it's not worth doing until there are places worth visiting anyway.

Dowser · 23/05/2020 17:30

Sunday’s are the worst day

justasking111 · 23/05/2020 17:31

Off to the chippy in a few minutes with DS, yep two of us out in the same car. Very limited menu fish or sausage, but there are mushy peas and curry sauce.

BarkandCheese · 23/05/2020 17:33

We walked through DHs childhood home village today. Normally when we do that we have a pub lunch, I want a pub lunch dammit!
