One thing I don’t understand about dementors shreiking about flouting lockdown rules, is that even after it’s been explained to them that a particular activity is not against the rules or that the risk is minimal, they continue with their ITS SO SELFISH, PEOPLE WILL DIE, THEY WILL HAVE BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS ranting

I’ve got a friend ranting on FB this morning about a lone bloke fishing late last night. They’ve posted a photo so you can see he’s on his own, no one else is around, he’s not touching any gates or railings, he’s way away from the pavement and road.

We’ve been told that fishing is fine, but the risk this bloke is posing is virtually nonexistent. Several people have politely pointed this out to her, explained the (non) risks very nicely, but she just continuing to rant, in capital letters that we’re all murderers, we obviously want elderly to DIE, we’re selfish, lives are more important than hobbies, etc, etc

She’s posting more and more outlandish and unlikely things that might happen - he might have a heart attack and need an ambulance. Might collapse, fall in the water and drown. If he catches a fish he will touch it and if someone else touches it he could pass on the virus. If someone was walking their dog off lead it might run up to him and if he touches it, he could pass on the virus.

She’s normally quite sane and sensible so I’m amazed she’s posting like this

whenthejoyreturns · 23/05/2020 09:18

I’m really in need of this thread today. I’m so wound up by the negativity from most of the teachers on MN. How long do you think they can keep it up for? It’s like they’re rubbing their hands together in glee at the thought of schools not being properly open ever again. It’s as if they just don’t care about the repercussions. Is there anything we can do? I feel so powerless.
@LilacTree1 You are a breath of fresh air. Don’t go.

Mascotte · 23/05/2020 09:28

@heroku I can kind of understand your friend, I'm a bit anxious about seeing people in this weird social distant way, it makes me feel on edge all the time as I try to remember what's ok!

Orangeblossom78 · 23/05/2020 09:28

I had someone on a neighbourhood site going on about how people should use leaves and feet on stiles and gates outdoors...I politely said if people all washed their hands after a walk they should be ok and not need for such extreme measures

He wasn't having it and started pm-ing me to keep going on about the need for leaves...

I'm not sure but seems some might just have lost the ability to reason
but when it is a friend that is more concerning

Orangeblossom78 · 23/05/2020 09:30

Spinger maybe she has some kind of anxiety or mental health issue arriving and needs some sort of input if usually not like this? Maybe could suggest she contact someone perhaps

TheGreatWave · 23/05/2020 09:34

The "but what if..." posters are likely to be the same one on the leaving a baby in a house /car etc come up with more and more ridiculous scenarios as to what might happen to you usually resulting in that you will collapse in the street and no one will know the baby was there, whilst conveniently forgetting that if there was going to be a medical emergency at that exact moment in time then the alternative would be that you were home alone with the baby so would be unable to access medical help (remember it is always so bad that you are unable to communicate)

I am not debating the rights and wrongs of leaving a child, but the accumulation of events is similar.

Willitneverend · 23/05/2020 09:34

Our council have put up quite an odd notice at the start of a path near us asking walkers to "minimise contact with surfaces". My levitating is not so good.

Springersrock · 23/05/2020 09:35

I’ve private messaged her for a chat. She told me to fuck off.

I’m going to get DH to message her DH

It’s not like her in normal times, but she has been posting lots of shaming posts during the lockdown and was very vocal in one of the FB community groups (I left the group so I don’t know if she still is)

Jourdain11 · 23/05/2020 09:37

Morning everyone

Lilac, I think you should come right back! Don't let some drunk troll woman get to you.

@MaxNormal Oh, that's rubbish - I'm sorry. I hope things will get back on track for you at some point.

Thank you for all the good wishes and I'm sorry I'm so slow replying. I had an upset stomach and I was sick all night. Not sure if it's a bug, the bloody bastard cancer or the pizza and wine Wink So I'm now lying around with a hot water bottle and a sick bowl. So glamorous!

But I'm feeling a little better this morning. Trying to be positive! And DC are cheering me up. DS, 5 next week just said: "I like you better without hair, mummy. It's cool." Apparently none of his friends have a mother without hair, so he's going to have street cred or something, lol.

Hope everyone has a good day - hope you all have got some proper hardcore rule bending planned ;)

heroku · 23/05/2020 09:38

@Mascotte you might be right actually. The rest of our friends are full frothing dementor so she's probably worried about being judged for even suggesting meeting up. If she didn't live so far from me I'd try to convince her to come and drink copious amounts of murderous wine in my garden.

TheGreatWave · 23/05/2020 09:40

jourdain hope the sickness passes soon.

Nothing exciting planned here, I am to fearful to even open my front door, goodness knows what might get blown in in the winds.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 23/05/2020 09:42

jourdain have you got any ginger biscuits? I hate ginger but it does help with nausea etc

fartingsparkles · 23/05/2020 09:46

@nighttime a bloody great big ditto from me!!

@springers I swear some people have lost all sense of reason and rationality. Some even seem to have found a sense of purpose in all this (and not in a good way)

@Lilactree please stay. You are worth much more than an idiotic troll

NUFC69 · 23/05/2020 09:48

Had to share this. How many children in total in England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, US and Korea (under the age of 20) in the three months to 12th May died of Covid19? Guesses? 43!! And how many children in those countries in the same period died in accidents? 3,000! 70 times as many. Article in the Daily Telegraph today. There are actually several good articles in the DT (plus letters), which do not dementor.

Jourdain - Thanks

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/05/2020 09:52

Theres currently a "second wave thread" that's actually got some quite sensible responses.
Until someone pointed out that you cant keep everything closed and locked down for a virus that kills approximately 1% of those it infects.
Cue 1% of a very big number is still a big number

Drivingdownthe101 · 23/05/2020 09:54

Wow NUFC69 that really puts it into perspective.

heroku · 23/05/2020 09:57

@NUFC69 do you have a link for the article? I'd love to share it with a family member of mine

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 23/05/2020 10:00

Thanks for that info @nufc69 I will attempt to pass that sanity onto a few mild dementors

Jourdain11 · 23/05/2020 10:05

@AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter I have ginger tea!

Blended learning for a whole year thread is, depressing. Poor kids, in school only half time and being marched around for constant handwashing while there.

DH is pissed off with the union. He says that if supermarket workers have been able to go to work throughout, why shouldn't teachers? He also mused that since all the supermarket workers haven't died or been off sick (he talked to a guy in Sainsbury Local who said that no one who works in the store has had it) it may not be as deadly as we think...

BarkandCheese · 23/05/2020 10:09

I’ve noticed in general the ratio of rational posts to we’re allll going to diieee unless we lockdown forever posts has been improving every day. I can actually bear to read some threads other than this one now. Posters who start extremely doom laden threads are finding the threads aren’t entirely going the way they’d hoped.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 23/05/2020 10:13

I have ginger tea

Good! Also- you can get these sea sickness wrist bands that help with sickness - I used them when pregnant and they worked pretty well. They put pressure on the the acupuncture points on your wrist that control feelings of sickness. Might be worth a try too, you can get them from amazon cheaply.

Shodan · 23/05/2020 10:16

@BarkandCheese

I've noticed that too. Huzzah!

@Jourdain11 Your ds sounds great. You're doing so well, keep it up.

No murderous plans for me today, except for the weeds in my flower beds .Those I will attack with vigour and fervour, possibly imagining dementors as I KILL THEM ALL Grin

Willow2017 · 23/05/2020 10:17

Jourdain11
Your dh is right. There is absolutely no SD in a supermarket no matter how many people say the supermarkets are 'taking care of thier staff' yet we are all still there! Hundreds of people a day staff and customers, yet we aren't dropping dead in the aisles.

Hope the nausea goes soon its a horrible debilitating feeling to have constantly. 💐

Orangeblossom78 · 23/05/2020 10:17

the whole 'what ifs' is what leads to OCD - compulsions to counter the 'what ifs' can see that spiralling perhaps
