Planning a seaside trip, was thinking day trip, but I’ve seen on booking.com many hotels available to book next week
So has that been lifted as well now ?

No. They have specifically said you can drive to somewhere but cannot stay the night.

Fenlandmountainrescue · 17/05/2020 22:23

I wouldn’t give them any money. You won’t get it back. I think they are just bring chancers.

lljkk · 17/05/2020 22:45

Business travel is still allowed, afaik. Obviously sometimes health workers or managers need to travel to other areas, for instance.

Even business travel is tricky. Dh has to go to a hearing in June, finding a hotel has been nigh on impossible. Apparently because it's Council related they can be classed as key workers in this scenario and have found a hotel that will accommodate them in that basis but that's taken a week to find.

DrewByMann · 17/05/2020 22:56

I think they’re taking bookings “on the offchance” but whether or not they’ll be able to go ahead is another matter.

Many hotels on booking.com seem to be running a “no money now pay on arrival” so it can’t hurt if you fancy something in advance and cancel the day before.....

DrewByMann · 17/05/2020 22:57

I forgot to say, double check the cancellation policy to make sure you can do it at the last minute for free Smile

SpillTheTeaa · 17/05/2020 23:01

No offence meant here but do you really need to go to the seaside and stay in a hotel? We're still in lockdown and you don't know who's been in those hotels and just because you can do something doesn't mean you should...

Lardlizard · 18/05/2020 00:02

We can drive for the day, but would rather stay overnight, I don’t know what’s going on with the hotels, we do have a Tent so I’m thinking of taking that

OP posts:
Ginkypig · 18/05/2020 00:07

As far as I am aware you are not allowed to stay in a hotel or a tent or anywhere else.

You are allowed to visit somwhere but you have to travel home the same day.

Legoandloldolls · 18/05/2020 00:08

I was thinking of booking a room in my hometown for a Christmas market. Travelodge where you can cancel on the day.

Today I had to face up to how unlikely there will be a Christmas market. Then dh said theres unlikely to be Christmas shopping. So bloody depressing!

I know places like Travel lodge have spaces but the last time I looked they said dont book unless your a key worker. I dont think they are open or will open anytime soon. I might cling to some hope for December but that's fading too 😭

Lardlizard · 18/05/2020 00:15

Lego look on booking.com there’s loads of hotels available book, premier inn won’t you let book before 4th July

Comefromaway · 18/05/2020 00:15

Hotels are open for workers only.

You are not allowed to stay overnight for leisure purposes.

Lardlizard · 18/05/2020 00:16

No only some one them are for key workers

OP posts:
Lardlizard · 18/05/2020 00:16

Anyway my dh is a keyworker

OP posts:
Comefromaway · 18/05/2020 00:17

If my husband has to return to work (teacher) I’m seriously thinking of booking him into the Travelodge within walking distance of his college so he doesn’t have to travel 40 miles on the train every day.

Comefromaway · 18/05/2020 00:19

Some hotels state they are only open for key workers, yes. But the others that are open are not allowed to take tourists, only long stay residents (often homeless) or otherS who are having to travel for work purposes, not leisure.

Lynda07 · 18/05/2020 00:19

I wouldn't call a trip to the seaside 'essential travel'. Lockdown has been eased, not lifted. Can you not wait a bit longer?

ErrolTheDragon · 18/05/2020 00:21

They're open for keyworkers who need them for their work, not for keyworkers who fancy a weekend away from home.ConfusedHmm

ErrolTheDragon · 18/05/2020 00:22

Note the guidelines include campsites so don't bother with the tent.

Lardlizard · 18/05/2020 00:22

It’s not essential travel only anymore

OP posts:
SkelingtonArgument · 18/05/2020 00:23

You can’t stay overnight. It’s that simple

Bluewater1 · 18/05/2020 00:24

Day trips are allowed. Staying overnight is not

Comefromaway · 18/05/2020 00:25

You are not listening.

Non essential travel is allowed in some circumstances eg to visit an outdoor space. Staying overnight is NOT allowed, it was made very clear and hotels/campsites etc are only allowed to provide accommodation to those travelling for work, the homeless, someone who is unable to return to their home eg they’ve been flooded or someone whose permanent residence Is the hotel/campsite.

Comefromaway · 18/05/2020 00:28

1.9 Are day trips and holidays ok? Can people stay in second homes?
Day trips to outdoor open space, in a private vehicle, are permitted. You should practise social distancing from other people outside your household.

Leaving your home - the place you live - to stay at another home for a holiday or other purpose is not allowed. This includes visiting second homes.

Premises such as hotels and bed and breakfasts will remain closed, except where providing accommodation for specific reasons set out in law, such as for critical workers where required for a reason relating to their work.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/05/2020 00:29

Here's the relevant bit of the advice after the loosening of restrictions.

It's unambiguous. Day trip if you want, no overnight stay.
