I'm off to markses, this morning, @drivingdownthe101 and I will be stocking up on ready meals. I love cooking, particularly proper curries, but I'm tired of sitting down to eat feeling flustered and resentful because, as well as my beautiful curry I've prepared 2 entirely different meals for food avoidant boys with ASD, one of which is often chasing me around, talking non stop about random shite (the other is glued to the sofa and would rather starve than lift a finger) and the only help I get from dh is if 8 leave the room and ask him for it, because otherwise he manages not to hear me, then he'll carry out whatever it is with a face like a smacked arse.

SockYarn · 18/05/2020 09:38

Is anyone watching Professor Saul Faust on BBC news right now? What a SENSIBLE man.

Basically saying we all live with risk every day and there's no proof that kids are in danger by going back to school.

onedayinthefuture · 18/05/2020 09:39

Just marking my place, positivity needed right now. Thank you!

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 18/05/2020 09:40

@HauntedGoatFart I agree really, I just feel it’s very unfair when children have had so little consideration

MagdaS · 18/05/2020 09:40

I work for (local) government, they pay me and everything. My kids are at school. Does that make me a shill?

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 18/05/2020 09:41

@onedayinthefuture Have you seen Portmeirion lit up with rainbow colours? It’s beautiful

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 09:45

I'm a bit confused, the gov want the schools to re-open as well as the garden centres etc...they are pushing hard for it. I totally agree about the vulnerable children etc mine are going back asap as well...

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 18/05/2020 09:59

@Orangeblossom78 I’m in Wales and the welsh government are still in full dementor mode

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 18/05/2020 10:00

I will be murdering my parents later when I take them some cake. Not sure if they'll let us sit in the garden. They did before the new 'rules' but now they are afraid of the neighbours' judgement. They'll come in our garden though, and have a brew. We live in an ex council house, our estate is more in the 'street conga' camp than the 'twitching the net curtains' one.

Are we due another announcement soon? Really really hoping for another slight slackening off of restrictions. It makes sense to do so before the schools go back (if they do) so that it's not a massive jump, surely? The social bubble thing would be amazing.

MinnieMountain · 18/05/2020 10:02

HT has replied to my query- apparently there are very few spare teachers in our LA, so Yr1s are definitely not going back in June.

Ah well, it's a sunny day and DS and I are off to the nature reserve to meet friends and climb trees.

Allnamesaregone · 18/05/2020 10:03

Blimey these threads move quickly- just caught up and it’s page 13 already.
No school till August for us in Scotland. One teen is not at all happy with that- it’s knocked the wind out of his sails.

Mascotte · 18/05/2020 10:04

@Allnamesaregone is that official news about the schools in Scotland?

Morning all. Just checking in to the new thread

Back at work today having been furloughed since the 1st of April. It was hell getting up this morning but already feel much better for it.

I saw an ad for Age UK on the telly last night saying that the elderly have been hit hardest. I don’t know if it’s just me, but it did piss me off. I don’t think anyone has been hit hardest to be honest, it’s bloody shit for everyone.

RubberDinghyRapids · 18/05/2020 10:08

Finally caught up! Was doing a bank shift yesterday and had to drive to a luffly location to do an assessment. Thought of you @Orangeblossom78 Grin

Had a walk with my sister last night and although we have slightly differing views (plus she thinks I'm mad for being on SM/MN) we were able to talk without shouting at each other or being dismissive of each other's opinions. Very fucking refreshing.

Feeling annoyed at the news/media/BBC for giving equal time to people with different views, and importantly evidence base. Why do medical professionals have to evidence their stance but 'mummy bloggers' get freedom to make baseless claims/repeat empty phrases without being held to account. I might have to write an email to complain. I turning into my mother.

SockYarn · 18/05/2020 10:12

I don't think it's official yet @Mascotte but Swinney said last week he expected schools to be closed until "at least" the summer break.

thereplycamefromanchorage · 18/05/2020 10:12

I need this thread!

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 10:18

Ah, sorry Wales I was chatting about the stuff here in England with the garden centres etc..

We're also being very ax on home schooling here today...neither fancy the essay title so just doing a bit of basic spelling and the maths thing and letting him do a bit of coding and minecraft! teen is doing his as usual, they hassle them if not...

might stick my fit bit on one of them and send them off to move a mile perhaps later

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 10:20

Rubberdinghy we are awaiting news about slipways being open, it seems soon, some marinas are open but not for visitors yet (boo)- we have a little fix together wooden dinghy for the Dc to learn to sail. Fingers crossed next week (half term) we can launch it.

Allnamesaregone · 18/05/2020 10:23

OH said he’d heard something on the radio (?Swinney, not sure, could have been some random on a phone-in) about teachers needing time to prepare for dealing with children who had been out of formal lessons for so long, but the longer you leave it the worse it’ll be.

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/05/2020 10:23

Mascotte I think the biggest barrier to yours going back is that you finish in mid June anyway don’t you? Having seen the planning that has gone into trying to reopen ours, I don’t think any schools would be willing to do that for what would be a couple of weeks at best. It is shit though Sad.
We’re in England but have different term times to many others so next academic year is due to start on the 17th August, it always irrationally annoys me when people talk about schools starting in September Grin

Orangeblossom78 · 18/05/2020 10:23

BBQ thread quite funny and unhinged

Allnamesaregone · 18/05/2020 10:24

Usually finish the end of the first week in July 3rd or 4th something like that

Dowser · 18/05/2020 10:25

Livinglavida..some of my grandchildren have never been to school as my daughter made the decision to home Ed them
She started a little business, selling organic baby and children’s clothing. Online. So hardly demanding. However it was impossible to put any oomph into the business with three children to home Ed . After about three years she folded it. Was a shame as the stuff was beautiful. Much was unisex so did a couple of children, but yes nigh impossible to promote it and then when she made a sale having to cart them all to the post office and it barely made a profit

Allnamesaregone · 18/05/2020 10:26

Scottish regions are different from each other. We’re in the Highlans which seems to finish latest

RubberDinghyRapids · 18/05/2020 10:28

@Orangeblossom78 Ah shame. Baiter is open, not sure about Cobbs etc. Hope a local one to you is soon. Our dinghy is so wee we can chuck it in almost anywhere but FIL is desperate to get down and get his doer-upper on the water.
