Tell me about your 30th!

So I'm 30 on Monday.
In lockdown.

Obviously not what I had planned. While we weren't going to do much because I had a baby in January so I cant go out and get plastered - we were planning on a nice meal out while DS goes to Nanny's house. Which won't be happening.

Oh well, que sera, sera and all that.

Let me live vicariously and let me know how you all celebrated your 30ths! Grin

Happy 30th @Lostvoiced!

I had an amazing 30th birthday party at home with some lovely people. An Alice in Wonderland theme with loads of fizz and cake.

I had my 40th in lockdown. Had a surprise Zoom party organised by DH. Got a bit choked up. Going to (hopefully) have a second birthday in October with 80s dancing and the same lovely friends.

Settle59 · 16/05/2020 21:01

Happy Birthday for Monday OP!!

AgeLikeWine · 16/05/2020 21:01

I’m absolutely not a party person, so DP & I went out to a Michelin starred restaurant as part of a lovely weekend away. Just the two of us Smile.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 16/05/2020 21:19

I went to York Races and watched Madness from a hospitality box. Won a few quid on the geegees and had a lovely day.

Marshmanimal · 16/05/2020 21:28

I was pregnant, had a toddler and husband was ill. We had a crap picnic at a National trust place.
It’s my 40th next year and if I can’t celebrate in proper style with lots and lots of food and drink and friends I will be gutted.

Rebelwithallthecause · 16/05/2020 21:32

I had just left my abusive exh a few weeks before, lost my job and my home and was living at parents

Was rubbish

I received a letter from exh saying that I shouldnt have left him as he was planning on taking me to New York for my 30th as I’d always wanted to

Like fuck he was!

torthecatlady · 16/05/2020 21:37

I took Dh to Malaga for his last year. Mines in September and we were planning a European city break but that seems unlikely now! We'll probably go away next year instead.

Happy birthday!

Crunchymum · 16/05/2020 21:42

Had the one and only party I've ever had as an adult. Was at a naice pub, I hired the conservatory and the private garden bit attached to it. Laid on food, had people with kids in until 7pm, lovely vibe. All went to shit when my siblings got into a fight (yes siblings as in plural, yes a proper fight) with some other people who were vague friends of friends and came to the pub as opposed to my party.

Police, arrests to be fair not my siblings utter carnage!!! Felt so bad I ended up paying several hundred pounds to pub (my CC was behind the bar!!) due to damage.

I turn 40 soon and even a lock down birthday would be better than that.

  • as pissed off as I was, it was totally out of character for my siblings, not particularly their fault and they did give me the money I paid the pub back.
Crunchymum · 16/05/2020 21:43

DP bore witness to my 30th, so we went to Barcelona for his, a few months later.

DappledThings · 16/05/2020 21:59

It was a Tuesday so we did the local pub quiz because that's what we always did on a Tuesday back then. One friend threatened to get the whole club to sign happy birthday so I threatened to leave. I swept cards straight up into my bag so nobody could see them and we carried on as normal with no more said.

I hate my birthday!

Dowser · 16/05/2020 22:03

Recovering from a bad bout of pneumonia, where I was lucky not to lose my life

Dowser · 16/05/2020 22:06

Don’t know what to do for 70

Changeyname40 · 16/05/2020 22:06

On a beach in Goa!

Alas just had my 40th in lockdown too. Will do something later too!

Happy Birthday for Monday op, well done for not wallowing!

BobbinThreadbare123 · 16/05/2020 22:16

Ach my 30th was shit. I was really poorly and going through a divorce. My family took me out for tea but blatantly didn't want to be there; wouldn't mind so much but I'd travelled from where I lived to them! 31st was better as I'd met DH and we went away somewhere nice for a few days.

Jowak1 · 16/05/2020 22:16

Myself and all my friends ( and hubby as he was 30 too within a few weeks of mine) went out to a lovely Indian restaurant for a big banquet. Friends from all over the country care it was lovely. For my 40th went to Las Vegas x

catfeets · 16/05/2020 22:22

My ex husband forgot to book time off work for our annual birthday holiday (it was his birthday the same day, so no excuse). We'd planned to go to Mexico so had to go another month. Ended up in Edinburgh for two days and we argued constantly. Made me realise my marriage was on its last legs.

Hope yours is better than mine Grin.

I got pregnant on my birthday last year so I'm hoping for a quiet one this year!

TheCraicDealer · 16/05/2020 22:30

I was in Bora Bora on my 30th. Before you get too jealous please be aware that DH spent most of the day moaning about mosquitoes.

You'll get some great deals on holidays for next year if you're willing to take a punt!

BillyAndTheSillies · 16/05/2020 22:42

I tasked DH with arranging a party and it was loads of fun. We'd just renovated our kitchen so had a great space to party.

My DS had the time of his life dancing with his older relatives as the only child there (everyone who would have babysat him was at the party and I'm so glad).

Few weeks later had a weekend away with just DH.

Happy birthday for Monday OP!

BayWindow · 16/05/2020 22:54

I spent the week of my 30th in NYC with DH. On the day went up Empire State and had a tasting menu at a fancy restaurant then cocktails. Happy birthday. Hope you get to have a lovely celebration when this is all over Thanks

tessiegirl · 16/05/2020 22:56

I stayed at hever castle

Peonyinbloom · 16/05/2020 22:58

You have a whole year of being 30 OP, so you will definitely eat to celebrate.
I had really sever hyperthyroidism after birth if first child, so was only recovering from being unable to walk properly, tremors, really bad tachycardia etc. Managed a lovely dinner and a few drinks with DH but that was it. Was probably in bed by 10pm, lol.

AveAtqueVale · 16/05/2020 23:47

Happy Birthday!

If it makes you feel any better for my 30th I got coronavirus Confused. Spent the morning feeling dizzy and feverish but trying to convince myself I wasn't actually ill, and assuring the DC I was having a lovely time. DH made a fancy lunch which I tried to eat and promptly threw up. By mid-afternoon I couldn't actually breathe properly and felt like my heart was trying to jump out of my chest, so rounded the day off by being admitted to the hospital I work in and crying at and coughing over various senior colleagues Blush.

Oh and my present from DH was absolutely amazing; tickets to see The Cursed Child, which I have been desperate to see since it came out but have never been able to justify. Was thrilled!

...then it was cancelled because of lockdown.

I have had better birthdays Grin.

AllNewThings · 17/05/2020 00:09

DH and I hired a private dining room and went out for dinner with 5 other couples who were our best friends at the time. Went for cocktails first and then a live music club after. I find my birthday very difficult and it's the only one I've ever celebrated. Today is my birthday actually. I'm 42 .

Yubaba · 17/05/2020 00:31

I found out I was pregnant with dc3 the week before. DH, dd, ds and my parents went to Centerparcs for a long weekend. I spent the entire time either asleep or being sick. They had a lovely time though.
I was 40 earlier this year and had a trip away planned but my dad passed away 2 weeks before and we cancelled, we postponed it for a ‘half birthday’ but that’s now cancelled as well because of the lockdown!
I’m not great at milestones but my normal birthdays are usually ok!

Lovely1a2b3c · 17/05/2020 00:37

I didn't do anything for mine. I have a chronic illness so just had a nice walk, some presents and take-away pizza.
