What restaurant dishes are you missing, and would like to recreate at home?

Really missing going out to eat. Also trying to save money, so no take aways.

I love cooking, but can't seem to get the authentic flavour of Indian food. What dishes are you craving?

We're pretty lucky and our favourite Indian food is still available. And it's cheap, it's vegetarian gujarati food, but they've been sold out of dosas for most of lockdown. Sad

If I am making curry at home, you can't beat this Rick Stein recipe

Mucklowe · 16/05/2020 10:39

I could murder a black bean tofu and white rice from our local Chinese.

borntohula · 16/05/2020 10:40

This is shameful but I just really fancy a McDonald's. Don't think it can be recreated.

RoscoePColtrane · 16/05/2020 10:44

Mucklowe totally agree re black bean tofu, the best ever is from our local restaurant which is not doing takeaway. I will be there like a shot when they reopen.
I also really really really want dhal. I cannot make it at home at all but a big bowl of that would be perfect.

A McDonald’s burger

WhoWhatWheree · 16/05/2020 12:41

A pollo pesto from Pizza express and their chocolate fudge cake!

iklboo · 16/05/2020 12:44

Good sushi. There's a gorgeous sushi place near where I work and I'm really missing it.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 16/05/2020 12:46

Oooooh great thread!

Pad Thai
Caesar salad
Calamari
Fish and chips
Persian kebabs

I'm drooling now lol

Verylongweek · 16/05/2020 12:46

@WhoWhatWheree I’ll let you into a secret...it’s Betty Crocker fudge cake box mix.... shhhhh

Snaleandthewhail · 16/05/2020 12:47

Wagamama has been posting videos of its recipes on Instagram. I followed one and it was a pretty good imitation of the real thing. Without the bill, noise of a hundred other people speaking, or anyone to do the washing up...

Perfidy · 16/05/2020 12:50

A really good fresh man bread and tandoori chicken.

And just someone else shopping cooking thinking, clearing up.

ohlookthisisjustdaftnow · 16/05/2020 12:51

I can't cook a decent steak the way I like it, no matter how hard I try.

I miss sushi.
Tapas but we have started making it at home.
Tonight we’re having garlic bread, chorizo, Padrón peppers, garlic prawns and giant beans. All from Asda apart from the beans which are tinned from Lidl.
For curry I recommend Madhur Jaffrey recipes.
Chinese- duck in a box from supermarkets is as good as that from the takeaway.

Zaphodsotherhead · 16/05/2020 13:27

Tandoori butter chicken and a peshwari naan.

I could probably recreate at home but can't be arsed. Oh bugger, now I'm going to have to go up to the takeaway after work, aren't I?

Twospaniels · 16/05/2020 13:38

We enjoy going to pubs and restaurants and eating really good food.

However once in a while we want what we call ‘fat’ food, usually from Beefeater, so next week we are having breaded mushrooms with garlic mayo, steak, chips and salad, followed by chocolate brownie and ice cream.

Got to add all the items to my weekly delivery slot and my daughters are going to be doing the cooking.

GrumpyHoonMain · 16/05/2020 13:40

Perfidy · 16/05/2020 13:43

Oops...not oops Grin

titsmcgee · 16/05/2020 13:50

Ramen. Spicy pork ramen, specifically, with that lush broth. Panicking at the thought my usual place will not reopen post-lockdown. I actually had a blowout "last supper" there just in case!

Reluctantbettlynch · 16/05/2020 14:24

@ohlookthisisjustdaftnow do you mean that you under / over cook it or that it just doesn't taste the same?

Windyatthebeach · 16/05/2020 14:28

We are having our second visit to Mambucca's tonight!!
Last time we had potato skins /prawn cocktail for starters..
Pizza /kievs for main.
Ice cream +fruit for dessert.
Let the dc stay up and had a great night.
Everyone dressed up smartly!!
