Have you seen this? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3911797-Do-you-reckon-we-could-go-on-lockdown-again

@WalesHasGoneCompletelyMental So has Scotland. And my 12 year old is getting so down too. He chats all day to friends on games but it's not the same. It's getting cruel now and I am getting angry. I hate not being able to help him in the face of Dementoring.

Good luck Domina.

I've enjoyed a long cycle to the river here and am now sat on the grass reading with a drink. Happy Londoners all around me enjoying the sun and the outdoors and smiling at each other. What a bloodbath.

DominaShantotto · 17/05/2020 14:19

I think I have enough guidance to quote and reference (head has been cowering behind swathes of guidance in all communication to parents) that I can make a strong case for needing a vulnerability assessment for DD2 if needs be. About time I turned the guidance bunker into something to support my child.

I'm hoping we have more positivity from the meeting and I don't need to go into mother bear mode - but this one is the hill I am prepared to die on if necessary!

Mascotte · 17/05/2020 14:19

Masks need to be worn once then washed at at least 60, or disposed of. Not touched while on and removed correctly to avoid infection. To be properly effective and not counter productive.

caught running around in the fresh air...

They can't exercise? That's awful..

ilovecardigans · 17/05/2020 14:21

Here's an alternative to the rainbows in windows. I am having a bad day. Can you tell?

London sounds like Bath, they are quite similar in some ways I suppose. It;s a really nice atmosphere here today, people blow bubbles, drinking wine in the park etc, beautiful day which helps. the Botanical Gardens was busy with families, as well. People in wheelchairs going down the roads children scooting alongside.

Death toll must be horrendous (not). Most people keeping a distance apart I noticed. Ambulance even seems to have gone from it's park location as well thankfully

Orangeblossom78 · 17/05/2020 14:26

The lack of mental health awareness on that thread is pretty dreadful

DominaShantotto · 17/05/2020 14:29

We've got a few locally who've put the "Ofsted bloody awful" logos in their windows which does make me smile.

Mascotte · 17/05/2020 14:29

@ilovecardigans that's brilliant! 😂😂

Go Domina! I wouldn't mess with you!

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 17/05/2020 14:30

That's a great sign ilovecardigans Grin

ilovecardigans · 17/05/2020 14:31

I wanted to put a similar sign in our window, but husband was concerned that we might offend the neighbours.

I think it would make them laugh, personally.

justasking111 · 17/05/2020 14:33

We are stuffed in Wales, Drakeford is going on the unions advice as to when schools go back. Guess we will be making easter cards the first term back.

MrsWombat · 17/05/2020 14:36

My fake OFSTED sign says "these's aren't the droids you're looking for" non offensive and totally random. Grin

DominaShantotto · 17/05/2020 14:39

Our neighbours were offended by the kids making bunting for our window - gave the battle axe down the street a good 10 minutes rant material. We don't fit in with the clique that think they run this street though.

DominaShantotto · 17/05/2020 14:39

I did consider (till I realised I can't bloody draw) making a giant Fred Flintstone from the closing credits where Dino locks him out - in reverse so he was banging on the door yelling "lemme out"

Would really piss off down the road that one!

GoldenOmber · 17/05/2020 14:41

Getting quite tired of all the speculation about how there will DEFINITELY definitely be a second peak because someone's sister who works in a hospital says the NHS is planning for it.

Of course NHS is planning for a second peak! And a third and fourth and fifth and whatever. That's not because they have some secret knowledge that it's inevitable, it's because for fairly obvious reasons it's very important to plan in advance for bad things that MIGHT happen.

Nihiloxica · 17/05/2020 14:43

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the devolved nations.

It looks to me like Sturgeon and Drakeford are flexing muscles they don't have, and the Tories are letting them. For now.

Ultimately the English taxpayer is footing the furlough bill, and Sunak is not going to pay out more for companies in Scotland, Wales & NI if their workers can't return due to schools being closed on union advice.

I think this will do the whole idea of devolution some damage. If parents in Wales, Scotland (and to a lesser extent NI becausr of sectarian politics) feel they would be better off if the Westminster government was in charge, then that will have an impact on nationalism sentiment

Given that two months ago the end of the UK due to Brexit was being loudly trumpeted on the left, we'll see how keen people are to be led by Sturgeon and Drakeford without the whole enterprise being underwritten by the UK Treasury.

ilovecardigans · 17/05/2020 14:45

Hoping that Scottish Govt will announce a modicum of relaxation of 'ze rules' soon to allow my husband to go fishing on the Scottish river that he has a permit for. Given that his rod (fnarrrr) is massive and you'd need to keep many, many meters away when it's in use and the fact that the river is mostly deserted I don't see the problem. River is only 8-10 miles away.

Incidentally, husband is a delivery driver for Argos and they've been working full pelt for the last few weeks. He's paid by the hour, so the extra cash has been very welcome. I notice many threads about people being worried about ordering 'non essential' items and wondering what the delivery driver thinks of them. Firstly, the protocols in place are very strict and I have no concerns about his safety. Secondly, stop fucking worrying about what anyone thinks - you're not doing anything wrong or illegal. For what it's worth I asked him whether he felt any wrath at delivering 'non essentials' and his reply was that who was he to judge what was or was not essential - everyone has a right to determine what is essential to them. He cares not a jot. He only gets pissed off at the people who book a 7-11 a.m. slot and can't be arsed to get out of bed to come to the door.

Mascotte · 17/05/2020 14:56

That's good to hear about delivery drivers, I have been feeling a bit guilty.

People keep saying Scottish schools off til at least August? Is this official?

ThatLibraryMiss · 17/05/2020 14:57

they give some pupils an extra week off at the end of the summer term while making it a catch up week for some

What a brilliant idea! It really gives an incentive to the pupils who are capable but would prefer to coast and/or disrupt.

Nihiloxica · 17/05/2020 14:57

Thank you

So true. My partner and I were talking today about how some people have clearly been set up as the fall guys - Matt Hancock being an obvious one. The economic fall out of this will be messy and I wonder if Rishi Sunak has been set up to take the hit on that. I'm sure it's not by chance that they've even got his face on the TV ads talking about business loans and furlough schemes.

I bet Boris, Cummings and co are delighted that Scotland and Wales want to go their own way and will give them just enough rope to hang themselves with.
