I have a buff that I wear when riding on very cold days. I'll just use that if I go anywhere that requires face covering.

Shodan · 17/05/2020 13:29

If the law requires me to wear a mask, I will make and wear one.

Otherwise I'll stay maskless.

justasking111 · 17/05/2020 13:29

we have loads of ski type coverings, any good?

MaxNormal · 17/05/2020 13:34

Hello all, can I join?
I've needed to stop reading most of the threads on here as I was becoming progressively angrier and more frustrated.
It's the same with most of my lefty-type Facebook friends. They're now all crying their eyes out because Neil Gaimon has gone to his holiday home on Skye (doesn't say in the article, but I read that he is potentially separating from his wife). Of course Ian Blackford as plenty say on the matter: bbc.in/2z4jj6T

NaturalBlondeYeahRight the New Scientist mention in article in passing that asthma hadn't turned out to be a major risk factor so I went looking but mainly found things below:

www.webmd.com/lung/news/20200420/asthma-may-not-be-a-major-risk-factor-for-covid-19,

www.thelancet.com/journals/lanres/article/PIIS2213-2600(20)30184-3/fulltext ,

www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/covid19/86323 which all seems to mentioning mainly New York data - but not much beyond that.

It all seems unsure and tentaive as vrial infection can often trigger attacks and worsening of asthma but data on increased risks seem to lump asthma in with other lung conditions - so TBH I still don't understand the risks of asthma but it looks slightly more hopeful than at start possibly.

MaxNormal · 17/05/2020 13:36

I've found myself feeling increasingly at odds with prevailing sentiment among my peers. I'm left-leaning, pro-Remain yet I'm questioning the complete hysteria around lockdown, it feels like political polarisation and that people are just anti-anything the Tories suggest.

justasking111 · 17/05/2020 13:37

Just got hold of my friend in China, if anyone thinks it is all clover there, it is not. I asked if they were still in quarantine.

Not any more. There are still restrictions on some types of travel, and travel across the country. The borders are also closed to foreigners. If I left China, I could not return. A number of expats from Kunming who went home for Xmas or January, are now stuck overseas.
I have a friend of mine who went home to London for Xmas, then traveled up to Birmingham in January who got stuck in Birmingham.

justasking111 · 17/05/2020 13:41

19years since I had a baby, whilst breastfeeding got mastitis, bloody midwife prescribed frozen cabbage leaves, my right boob never recovered. Scar tissue my mammograms say. Consultant said I should have had antibiotics. So now it looks like I have something going on mastitis who knows, my boob is on fire so sore. Am on paracetamol, fingers crossed gp can help me out tomorrow.

This nowt going on during covid in the NHS unless you have covid has to stop!! Even if you won the lottery there is no private care out there.

RunningNinja79 · 17/05/2020 13:41

I also have a buff (well I have 6 or 7 buffs) that have come from various running events so if I need to use a face covering then I will use that. I took one with me to the supermarket on Friday, but as hardly anyone else in the queue was wearing one I decided not to as well.

While on my run earlier I saw a family of 4 out running too. Wonder how many people they have potentially killed? Now if I was a dementor I'd be all how dare they go out running and totally miss the point that I was out too.

Spoke to my mum this morning. My parents have a holiday home in the south of France and they were meant to go early April until mid June (ooh to be retired with a good pension), but obviously still at home in England. However, she's still hopeful that they will be able to go in 4 weeks.

There are more articles like the above around that suggest it's more than a respiratory illness than was first thought.

highmarkingsnowmobile · 17/05/2020 13:45

I'm with you MaxNormal. I will also be staying mask-less. I have PTSD those things frighten me.

Institutkarite · 17/05/2020 13:45

I'm stuck in Portugal, the European country that isn't mentioned! I flew out here in early March, I knew that I might get stuck here. It was a deliberate decision on my part.
I just had a feeling that things were going to be bad so I got on a plane and came here. My full time home is in Wales and my God I'm so glad that I'm here and not there.
Restrictions were lifted here on May 4th, I've had my hair cut, we both wore face masks, wearing a mask is mandatory here now. Only if you're in a shop though. You don't have to wear one if you're just walking around.
We're going out for a meal tomorrow..........in a restaurant. We're going to sit at a table and be served food, I'm so excited.

IfNotNowThenWhenever · 17/05/2020 13:47

I don't mind wearing a cloth mask when I'm shopping- I do think it probably offers a little protection to others, but it seems weird to wear one to walk down the street.
As far as kids seeing each other, I am going to make it known to other parents that my DC will be allowed out for bike rides, footie and playing. They are far more at risk crossing the roads with all the terrible drivers out there than kicking a ball to each other on a playing field.
Plus, I really think the boost to the immune system from sunshine, fresh air and sheer happiness is worth a lot.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 17/05/2020 13:49

That garden centre thread is disgusting. No one, even someone shielding, is forced to stay at home much to the disgust of the dementors.

Drivingdownthe101 · 17/05/2020 13:52

Institutkarite we seriously considered flying to the IL’s in Spain when this all started kicking off, then realised DD1’s passport had expired 😭.

Tonii1985 · 17/05/2020 13:53

@MaxNormal I could have written your comment myself.

Drivingdownthe101 · 17/05/2020 13:56

justasking111 keep a very close eye on it, I ended up with sepsis from mastitis once. Spent a week in intensive care!

heroku · 17/05/2020 13:59

I'd potentially be up for wearing a mask under specific circumstances (e.g. on the tube, on a plane) but definitely not in every day life. The whole idea of government mandated face masks just gives me the creeps and it seems like in many situations it could do more harm than good. Especially when you've got people wearing them in the car/walking outside and never washing them.

DominaShantotto · 17/05/2020 14:02

I now have swathes of official guidance on how schools can adapt numbers to bring vulnerable kids suffering back into school - I shall be going to war with the head to support DD2 after this damned meeting.

I believe a complete collapse of mental health, anxiety, depressive behaviour, insomnia, regression of communication skills counts as vulnerable and circumstances changing does it not?

Head may think of me as an annoying parent governor mummy type - I'm bloody sharper than they give me credit for where my babies are concerned.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/05/2020 14:07

It's lovely here today, like reclaim the city streets. Saw quiet a few people out and about- 2 masks- one pregnant lady and one elderly man wearing them.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/05/2020 14:11

No police here at all today out and about, (unless more in town) just people out in the sun enjoying themselves..picnics children on scooters etc. Maybe it depends where you are...

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 17/05/2020 14:11

Thanks @enjoyingSun that’s what it seems to look like.
I’ll run up a few masks if they make us wear them in certain places - if I can find elastic. I know how much I touch my face though so slightly pointless.
From some cryptic stuff on facebook by beauticians and hairdressers I know vaguely, I’m wondering if there isn’t some secret code to see them before they are official. Special code or something 😀.

Orangeblossom78 · 17/05/2020 14:12

I really hope the elderly do not starting to get the same wrath from dementors as oxygen lady..

Institutkarite · 17/05/2020 14:13

drivingdown the 101, I tried to persuade my son and his family to come out here, they couldn't because of work but he's been furloughed and my DIL is WFH. They also had DIL's parents to think about, both over 70 and with underlying problems. So I've invited them all, We'll see what happens next.

justasking111 · 17/05/2020 14:13

It does depend on where you are in Wales, no cars to be used for getting out and about, walking only. DS and three kids are hiding out somewhere, kids sat in back of car having a picnic lunch in case they get seen/caught running around in the fresh air.
