How can I go out if no loos are open?

During lockdown I’ve been working from home and walking locally. Also a once a week supermarket trip by car.

Now you are allowed to meet one person from outside your household, as long as it’s outdoors in a park, I am desperate to meet my brother.

We live over 3 hours apart and would be happy to drive to meet half way BUT I couldn’t last the whole round trip plus time for a socially distanced walk without going to the loo! So despite it being permitted and being desperate to meet how can this work?!

The loos in our supermarket are open.

Solasum · 13/05/2020 21:54

@Namechangeapril20 that is awful, your poor DH

Rosieposy4 · 13/05/2020 21:56

The loos are open at most services, not much else.
You can borrow my horse trailer OP, i often have a wee in it at competitions. Actually thinking about it that means I can can go and see my mum 90 miles away, take the trailer with me, mobile loo 😀

TheNationalToastBoard · 13/05/2020 22:00

Another vote for a she-wee. I've got one.

You can also get bags to pee in which absorb it into a gel; you just chuck it away after (in a bin obviously).

Or, take a bucket with you, some big roll or wipes, a carrier bag for rubbish and some bottled water to rinse the bucket out with after you chuck the pee in a bush. If you open both passenger doors on the left of the car and sit between them, you shouldn't be seen.

I'm speaking from so many prior experiences Grin

Feel your pain but just want to point out that it’s not just a “women's issue” (don’t think that’s fair). DH has undergone radiotherapy and now has issues re loo (bowel and bladder incontinence) and can’t just pee outside. It’s causing him distress that he can’t go far for daily exercise or to help with tasks such as shopping.

Cakes4Teatime · 13/05/2020 22:01

Ah - a horse trailer! I knew there would be a solution!

I drove an 8 hours trip on motorways last month (essential care) and all the services I visited had their toilets open.

VenetoResident · 13/05/2020 22:09

I have one of these - could use it in the car or next to the car if needed.

Drink less beforehand? I had an interview the other morning (all socially distanced) and it was going to be 3 hour round trip. I normally wee loads in the morning, as I drink water, OJ and a cuppa all before 9am. I had less than half than normal and managed to last!

maria860 · 13/05/2020 22:14

I've considered this ..tomorrow I want to take my kids for a nature walk 20 mins away by car but I don't know where I will pee as I'm pregnant. The place I go usually has like a tiny little museum thing with a small toilet but it will be closed.
I had a hard time just going to a nearby park didn't drink for two hours before so I didn't need to go it's stressful isn't it.

LouLou789 · 13/05/2020 22:15

If you’re with someone else....
Before lockdown we thought of this and and bought a large bucket. We thought that once lockdown eased we could take this, a flask For refreshments and a sheet and DH would protect my privacy if needed, Obviously haven’t done this yet,
On your own, it’s harder, I remember once years ago placing my son’s potty on the passenger seat, having a wee on it and emptying it. I was agile and in my twenties then. Be bound to spill it now,

LilacTree1 · 13/05/2020 22:15

Does anyone know if major London rail stations have their bathrooms open? I’m in London and the only way I could walk along the river would be if Blackfriars etc have bathrooms available. It takes me a long time to get in on the bus.

winewolfhowls · 13/05/2020 22:23

I've just ordered a shewee. I'm quite happy too do the a nature wee but sometimes there isn't much foliage

mumwon · 13/05/2020 22:42

one of those mini toilet camping tent things?

mountain warehouse do them & apparently they are running out fast (popup tents no less) for £39!
(thinks - maybe I should order one?)
I remember going for a walk round Uluru &trying to find a bush - preferably without thorns insects or snakes (shudders)
I have image of seeing lots of these suddenly springing up in parks Grin

DishingOutDone · 13/05/2020 23:14

Aw now come on, I have mobility problems which mean that I must be able to go and sit on an ordinary toilet to use it - I can't squat or manoeuvre onto a "she wee" thing. I want to go on a 3 hour journey, I can't hold it that long - what do I do? Service stations may be open but surely a public toilet would be a likely place for COVID19 transmission?

StillMedusa · 13/05/2020 23:55

A lot of service stations and garage loos are shut..my dh is also a driver and it's been a nightmare ... ok he can pee in a bush but if he needs a poo....
He now has a bucket in his lorry :(

I walk the dog and have a lousy bladder... I've just had to get used to a quick squat in the bushes and hope no one is coming! (on country walks..I don't do it round town!!!)

Stuckforthefourthtime · 13/05/2020 23:57

Agree with others - wear a long skirt, choose a park with some wilder sections and go for a quiet and sedate nature wee.

saraclara · 14/05/2020 00:16

I went to a big Tesco today and used their loos. So some supermarkets' toilets are open.

OnlyLittleMissOrganised · 14/05/2020 04:48

Does no one just stomp into the woods where no one can see (usually behind a clump of bushes) pull down your trousers and squat?

Also if driving find a lay by open the front and rear car doors....protected pee space.

NamechangeOnceMore · 14/05/2020 07:49

We went for a trip to the beach yesterday. The nearest motorway service station loos were open, as were the loos at the supermarket near the beach (which is a Waitrose).

oohnicevase · 14/05/2020 07:58

I'm a country girl and we where necessary so if we in a hedge before I got there and after if need be . And don't drink , suck sweets or grapes .

BeetrootRocks · 14/05/2020 20:06

The thing with weeing in the wild is it's all well and good if you're young/ able bodied but it's not for everyone.

The closure of toilets all over the place (before covid) really impacted women more than men. It's a well known thing isn't it.

HugeAckmansWife · 14/05/2020 20:51

Services on the A1 are all open for loos and takeaway food. They've blocked every other cubicle and sink and they are ghost towns anyway. Good hand hygiene before and after visit and its fine.

winewolfhowls · 15/05/2020 09:45

Just to let you know that I had to have a nature wee yesterday, and I thought of you all.
