How can I go out if no loos are open?

During lockdown I’ve been working from home and walking locally. Also a once a week supermarket trip by car.

Now you are allowed to meet one person from outside your household, as long as it’s outdoors in a park, I am desperate to meet my brother.

We live over 3 hours apart and would be happy to drive to meet half way BUT I couldn’t last the whole round trip plus time for a socially distanced walk without going to the loo! So despite it being permitted and being desperate to meet how can this work?!

It's not appropriate for a woman to be told that she's being inappropriate by having a wee in the bushes ffs.

Totally agree. I ordered a she wee after standing back waiting for a man and his son to cycle past me. They got a little way past then both jumped off to head into the bushes for a wee.
I waited for them to re-emerge so as to what? Not embarrass them? Not sure.. Anyway, if it's ok for them, it's ok for me.

MorrisZapp · 19/05/2020 09:36

Our Morrisons has its toilets open, but Asda and Sainsbury's don't.

I'm fascinated by the tena lady suggestion. I always assumed these were to catch little leaks rather than absorb a normal pee? How do they work and can they be worn with jeans?

MorrisZapp · 19/05/2020 09:38

My only tip is to take walks on grey or drizzly days. It amazes me how the tiniest hint of damp clears parks and green spaces, leaving a little bit more room for private weeing in bushes.

GeriGeranium · 19/05/2020 09:42

“Not appropriate” is such a weasel phrase, it just means “something about this bothers me, but I’m not going to articulate what”.

It’s not appropriate for women to have to stay at home because we might need a wee, it’s not appropriate for a woman to develop bladder problems because she holds her wee too long, and it’s not appropriate for a woman to end up peeing herself because there are no public toilets.

Wild wees are great if you can manage them.

I use a she wee with no real problems, and have travel urinals for the kids.

needtoseperate · 19/05/2020 09:50

honestly? drink less wouldn’t be an option for me on a 1 1/2 hour drive, I’m a really stressy driver and incredibly prone to migraines so I sip away and would have a good cup of tea each end of the journey to calm my nerves. and as for nature wee, I’m a runner/cyclist and all that so not shy but what about needing a poo or time of month? —very heavy and messy here— good luck anyway OP

Thegate · 19/05/2020 09:57

@Tootingwife
The new “Always Boutique” or Tena equivalent are really good and genuinely v discrete.
I’ve been looking for something like this, would you be able to do a full pee in it?

lynsey91 · 19/05/2020 10:02

Quite a few service areas where toilets are closed. DH stopped at 3 on a 150 mile journey (emergency work) and they were all closed.

AJPTaylor · 19/05/2020 10:12

We are about 20 mins here from 2 nice coastal towns where all loos have shut. I have realised that actually I can go about 3 hours without a wee. Far longer than I thought. I was disheartened to see that the disabled loos are closed though, even the radar keys ones.

dottiedodah · 19/05/2020 10:15

CakesforTeatime I think some supermarket loos are open .I have perfected a "quick wee behind a tree" now though! At first felt like you but 2 or 3 times in seems like second nature!(Dog follows me looking surprised !)

Tootingwife · 19/05/2020 10:15

@MorrisZapp @thegate

I have used the Always Boutique and Tena ones (I think they’re called Silhouette) for quite a heavy wee with no dramas. Blush

They are the ones like normal knickers (although obv a bit more padding in the right places!). They’re not bulky so I’m pretty confident that they aren’t visible under my jeans or skirt. They have a low waist anyway but I also tend to get the black or pink coloured ones so I don’t think there’s be any issues around anyone noticing them.

AgeLikeWine · 19/05/2020 10:17

Sorry, but it's not appropriate for women to piss outdoors. The rules do affect women unfairly.

Nonsense.

I will be the judge of where it is ‘appropriate’ for me to urinante.

cortex10 · 19/05/2020 10:21

I have a couple of these in the car https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00R177BAM?psc=1&ref=ppxpopmobbasin_title

fascinated · 19/05/2020 10:23

I’d say it’s either appropriate or not appropriate for both sexes equally. There are v few places any grown adult should be pissing outdoors - but a secluded wooded area, in a pinch, for example, would be one.

Nothing to do with men or women.

Tamtam86 · 19/05/2020 10:25

I think they really need to reopen toilets, women shouldn't be having to wear tena pants to be able to leave the house!

This thread has made me realise I either don't drink enough or have a bladder of steel Hmm

dottiedodah · 19/05/2020 10:25

"Sorry not appropriate for women to piss outdoors " Sorry but needs must. Also I thought equal rights for everyone now (including wees) Anyone who has a problem with it can just piss off cant they!

fascinated · 19/05/2020 10:30

Unfortunately men do pee openly outdoors, which is disgusting.

fascinated · 19/05/2020 10:31

Does everyone realise that toilets are one of the main vectors of transmission, though? Especially poorly ventilated ones.

AgeLikeWine · 19/05/2020 10:51

No it isn’t. Urination is a normal bodily function which all of us do every day. As long as it is done reasonably discreetly, urinating outdoors is fine for either men or women.

Rightbutno · 19/05/2020 10:55

I have ibs so I have thought about this too. There will be a lot of people who need to be able to be near a loo especially older people and women.

LBOCS2 · 19/05/2020 10:58

I've done a number of long trips up and down the M25 and M1 and every service station I've gone to has toilets that are open. Nothing else, by and large (or possibly just the supermarket section), but the looks have all been open. The services do look closed and a bit foreboding but they've been fine, and they're all operating a system where they've closed every second loo and tap to maintain distancing.

fascinated · 19/05/2020 11:12

poster AgeLikeWine

I did use the word OPENLY

Babysharkdoodoodood · 19/05/2020 11:25

This worried me a few weeks ago when we had to go to Nottingham for testing, as I have a bladder problem (still awaiting surgery-sigh). Also ibs ugh.
The services en route M1 are still open there.

Just check the route and then which brand of services- their website should tell you if they're open.

Bloodybridget · 19/05/2020 11:36

@LilacTree1 as far as I know, all the train terminals in London have loos open.

CodenameVillanelle · 19/05/2020 11:38

I found public toilets open in two towns I've been to recently
