Why do the Dementors on local Facebook pages need to resort to upper case permanently as soon as something like a KFC queue starts or Starbucks Drive Through open ??

justasking111 · 15/05/2020 15:08

VE day murderers, that is such a trite dementor term. Sick of hearing it on FB

BarkandCheese · 15/05/2020 15:10

We’ve got a week to go until everyone dies from VE Day infection. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s no noticeable increase in deaths or infections if any dementors start to think maybe they’re overestimating the danger.

justasking111 · 15/05/2020 15:11

You know I really fancy a KFC now, something I have not nibbled on for years since the children were small. Far superior to that grey frisbee in a bun that passes for a McDonalds.

SpnBaby1967 · 15/05/2020 15:11

I was on a work conference call and one lady keeps just yelling "BUT PEOPLE ARE DYING" even when given facts and figures, and previous flu information. She convinced that the supermarket shop will mean she drops dead in "2 days or 2 weeks or whatever". I dont get it, shes usually a pretty strong willed and level headed person but this literally has her spinning to the point she never wants to return to the office.

In other news, when the car sales reopen I want to buy a new car. I dont need a new car. But I've wanted to buy this particular car for over a year now. So my question is......

How murderous will my car shopping be? Are we talking 2 grannies, a key worker and a handful of kids are am I going full serial killer and taking out the equivalent of a small town?

ragged · 15/05/2020 15:14

Ooh, I see the Sun worked out Johnson has a BMI of 34-36.
And I did not know he's so short -- just 5'9" !!
I'm barely shorter & he was 7 stone heavier at admission. He was carrying a whole extra person around with him, really.

I need to have a moan.
There's a poll out showing 66% of British support Lockdown & if anything, would like it to be harsher. I am in such a minority. Going to shops feels like a high stress event to be avoided there are so many rules & lots of tension. On top of that, I am working long hours (thank you covid19) for possibly no pay (thank you Lockdown), asked to take high profile role (thank you self) and getting emotional messages from complete strangers with agendas who don't like my work (thank you human hysteria). I'm trying to do something very satisfactorily boring today but it's tedious so somewhat annoying in itself.

There's a list of personal stuff made worse by lockdown. Meanwhile I have zero fear of the virus itself but the 66% decided I get a huge pile of stress because they do fear it.

I wish I lived in Sweden, sigh.
Must get some fresh air.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/05/2020 15:14

That would depend how much you're spending on the car, Spnbaby. Also if the car is in any way fun, and an interesting colour.
For instance, a new yellow open top MG would kill thousands, a grey Corsa with a lot of miles on the clock just a couple of families.

justasking111 · 15/05/2020 15:15

A new car, you will be killing a factory full of folk doncha know. Grin

justasking111 · 15/05/2020 15:16

Actually being serious, that new car will have been sitting in a field somewhere, remember british leyland, my friend worked for them during red robbos days, cars that sat in fields for months rusting, were cleaned up, resprayed and sold. The rust reappeared within months.

Cattermole · 15/05/2020 15:23

Been dying to say this for days but assuming the median time for infections is 5 days shouldn't we be starting to see the VE Day Murders starting to have an effect by now? Even if it's only an itsy-bitsy-teensy one? Or are THE GOVERNMENT LYING TO US???

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 15/05/2020 15:24

I feel so grateful for this thread each and every day. So glad more and more are joining us too.

I saw my psychologist - I can't even put into words how good it was to see him and just pretend everything was normal again. The only thing that was odd was sitting outside. But it helped me so much. I also saw my friend this morning. I've gone from someone who felt pretty mentally unwell to someone who is coping in the space of a few days. We walked somewhere with lots of people and to see so many smiling faces and people saying hello to each other was bliss. Everyone was polite about keeping their distance but there were cyclists and runners and a guy on roller-skates.

Just in the last 24 hours I know of two people who have taken their own lives. Luckily they're friends of friends (of friends) so neither is a personal bereavement, I hasten to add, but it was still a shock - I feel for them so much that they couldn't take lockdown or the fear around the virus (I'm obviously guessing that at least strongly contributed to their decisions but that seems most likely). Dementors might not be responsible for those deaths but they aren't helping and it's disgusting. There is lots of positive news out there. I've been thinking about my FB friends because I had a couple of positive links to share on there and I just realised, no one is going to accept them. For some reason, they want to draw attention to all the negative stuff. And I was thinking, at least it will be better when the virus buggers off. But will it? Doesn't this say something about them, actually? I think I need new friends Sad They have been so determined not to accept any positive news at all. That's not healthy.

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 15/05/2020 15:27

I have some work to do but then I'm going to settle down and watch this with Swedish epidemiologist Johan Giesecke. He is amazing. Very critical of other countries locking down as he says most cases are asymptomatic, COVID-19 is just the equivalent of a bad flu and if you lockdown, how do you then get out of that? (hint, you can't - the virus still then spreads as it does so silently). I have a new platonic crush.

justasking111 · 15/05/2020 15:28

NINE people, yep NINE died in Wales yesterday, yet Drakeford stood at his podium at lunchtime adamant that we were not softening on lockdown. Jesus christ, I am now going out to pick up a vets prescription will then call in to see my grand children. HAD ENOUGH!!!!

Bollss · 15/05/2020 15:31

now that is an excellent graph @LivinLaVidaLoki

I have managed to get an interview for a new job (in the NHS no less - you can all clap for me on a thursday if i get it Wink )

anyway jokes aside this pandemic has brought out the true colours of a few people i work with and it's given me the push i needed to move on. Wish me luck!

Cattermole · 15/05/2020 15:34

PS @TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair I am so sorry for the friends of friends, even for people you don't know it's a ripple effect and I hope you are OK.

DominaShantotto · 15/05/2020 15:36

I can't keep up this existence - I need to know school are going to support DD2. Mum's sent me photos of the kids today having fun at her house (they've learnt how to work a sewing machine and made a cushion) - but DD2 just looks drained and worn down. There's no sparkle or life in either of them.

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 15/05/2020 15:37

This is so heartening to hear- youve been incredibly brave and courageous sharing such difficult and personal stuff with us and I so admire you for that.

I'm really sorry for your losses, even if you didnt know them well its still shocking. You are doing brilliantly and i hope things continue to get easier Flowers

DominaShantotto · 15/05/2020 15:37

The death numbers have dropped again - which will really upset the dementors. Obviously we have the inevitable weekend fall right off and then resurgence on Mon/Tues next week which will be blamed on VE Day and conga slaughter.

Kids went out for their daily walk after conga-gate and decided to yell and sing the conga full blast and I was hissing "DON'T - IT'LL KICK THEM ALL OFF AGAIN!"

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 15/05/2020 15:40

Hugs, Domina.
We have been in touch with school to say we are worried about ds1's mental health. They're going to talk to us on the phone asap.

rosettesforjill · 15/05/2020 15:43

I think we'll take the car out to stretch its legs at the weekend and commit some genocide in the countryside with the children - we might even take a picnic for extra depravity

Sandybval · 15/05/2020 15:43

For instance, a new yellow open top MG would kill thousands, a grey Corsa with a lot of miles on the clock just a couple of families.

Grin possibly one of my favourite posts on MN!

DominaShantotto · 15/05/2020 15:44

Countess the head won't engage with us - just says no and forwards the email onto the class teacher to smile, send a "oooh how are you today DD" email and fob us off a bit longer.

Anyone have any ideas? Like I say complicated by me being a governor - I'm probably going to resign over this after next meeting.

I've just reported a thread from a "doctor" pleading for parents not to send their kids to school - MNHQ really need to stop letting this bullying crap stand.

HesterShaw1 · 15/05/2020 15:45

SpnBaby, My STXH bought a new car the week before lockdown started. He's still alive, though I can't guarantee the person he bought it from is.

However, he was probably one of the lucky ones.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/05/2020 15:47

We just went out for a walk and there were two children playing on the park. DS and I walked past and a dementor collared me saying "I thought children weren't supposed to be on the park?" Clearly expecting me to agree and start tutting about how awful it is. I just said "no, but they look like they're having fun bless them" and walked off.

GoldenOmber · 15/05/2020 15:47

I’m fairly sure the VE Day Murderers won’t be leaving too much bloodshed behind them Grin At least one of the photos all over Twitter was clearly taken with a telephoto lens making people look closer together than they were. As for the conga... well I can’t imagine many things sounding less fun than a socially distanced VE Day conga personally, but eh, they were spaced out and they were outdoors so at least risk of transmission seems pretty low, no?
