Dd3 is meeting her friend for a walk on Saturday after which they will be sitting in the garden 2m apart. She's so excited bless her

BrightYellowDaffodil · 14/05/2020 12:25

Blimey, these threads don't half shift, don't they? Taken me days - DAYS - to catch up from the second thread and we're still motoring on Grin

I'll tell you what I'm getting pretty damn fed up of - the FB posts from people still parroting "STAY THE FUCK AT HOME" even though people can travel to exercise now if they wish. Of course people are going to want to go somewhere scenic - the Cotwolds, the beach, whatever - no-one's ever said "You know what darling, let's go for a walk in Slough this weekend". There is going to be Social Media Drama from the self-appointed border guards this weekend. I've had to mute several people already.

I've been trying to counter the dementorism, including a team meeting yesterday, but I gave up in the onslaught of no vaccine ever/numbers still rising (no they're not)/everything is terrible. As soon as you mention statistics you get "Yes, well but..." Sometimes you have to step away for the sake of your own sanity.

And because I missed out on this part of earlier discussions, my patronus is a Tapir.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 14/05/2020 12:26

Afternoon all. I've spent this morning going to the bank to pay in some cash...going to the post office to sort out a passport (won't be needing it for the next 100 years but y'know, just in case)..AND bought a sandwich to eat in the park....you could walk across the English Channel on all the bodies left by my killing spree.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 14/05/2020 12:28

Ooh, I nearly forgot this little gem. Posted by a HCP friend, with the caption "Does anyone still care about us?" I get that if you work in healthcare, right now your sphere of reference is somewhat limited to coronvirus deaths, coronavirus deaths and coronavirus deaths, and that fear breeds fear. But fuck me sideways, she's an actual doctor who are, by definition, intelligent people.

used to work in NHS and social care (sister does still). Noone hears about the anti dementors in the media (and they are MANY). They dont make a jiucy story.......... unfortunatley the easily led swallow this up and were "gonna dieeeeee" .

same with teachers . most just want to get back in.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/05/2020 12:36

No PE would be bonkers given all the evidence showing virtually all transmission is indoors. They should be out in the sun as much as possible making vitamin d and catching up on much needed exercise. And having fun.

freedomyes · 14/05/2020 12:37

Im taking ds out for chips by the sea later. petrols cheap :)

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 12:40

“But fuck me sideways, she's an actual doctor who are, by definition, intelligent people.“

My father was an HCP. He’d be heartbroken by what’s going on. I think the generation who signed up for that work understanding that they might be exposed to highly infectious disease has, well, died!

I can’t imagine any of his work contacts hiding this way or expecting people to live this way for a disease that 80% of people will get as a mild illness.

BirdieFriendReturns · 14/05/2020 12:40

Post in AIBU right now. “ To wish we had been completely wrong.”

“Please do not label those with worries, fears and concerns as Dementors, yes I see those threads and frankly they are despicable and I am embarrassed for you that you openly mock those who have concerns, questions or fears about this virus. Your motivation for having to resort to name calling or compartmentalising us I will never understand, it says a lot about your character.”

SunlightBaby · 14/05/2020 12:43

I've found you! Phew!

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 12:43

Yes I am relived to find online, DH may bot have to do the shielding thing after all as his condition guidance says moderate. Thanks for scaring us NHS I guess you meant well

freedomyes · 14/05/2020 12:43

I do think some people with a tendency from dramatics/ anxiety etc etc are being used as a tool by the media.

they then further it all on social media.

the NHS needs to get them seen and sorted (therapy?) and the media needs a stiff talking to from the government to all this doom bollocks.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/05/2020 12:43

Just seen a statement from Yorkshire Dales national park. They are going for sane and sensible. They say they advocated a staged approach to minimise tensions but since that hasn't happened they're asking visitors to be respectful and are working on opening loos and car parks.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 12:44

not

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 12:44

There's no way it was stop us sending DCs back and him to work anyway.

freedomyes · 14/05/2020 12:44

sensible

GoldenOmber · 14/05/2020 12:44

Despicable. DESPICABLE.

I’m not interested in mocking people for being afraid, but I think it’s a valuable public service to mock the “sorry to burst your bubbles of optimism but we’ll never have shops again!” doomploppers.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 12:45

It says in the Times today gov has a 'group of psychologists behind the messages' hmm. (such as stay at home people will die etc) You'd think they had a duty of care..

freedomyes · 14/05/2020 12:46

I don`t mean anything against people with anxiety iyswim. its the hysterics!

think of the children! and my aunty maud twice removed .....

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/05/2020 12:46

I think it helps that in the Dales there is none of this 'but we haven't got enough hospitals!' business because the Dales people will use the ones in Leeds, just like many of their visitors.

freedomyes · 14/05/2020 12:46

doomploppers I LOVE that word

Mascotte · 14/05/2020 12:48

They don't help themselves with things like the "All the children are going to DIE!!!" threads.

Mascotte · 14/05/2020 12:49

I've been on the positive thread 😊 Good idea. And it's made me think, there's not care workers moaning all over the place. The ones on my sm are cheery and realistic.

Bollss · 14/05/2020 12:50

As someone with anxiety I am certainly not mocking others for it.

Its the "were all gonna die" brigade that's bothering me and I am not certain it's all anxiety driven tbh. I think some of these people know exactly what they're doing.

freedomyes · 14/05/2020 12:51

yes it is
