I`m still chuckling at doomplopper

Mascotte · 14/05/2020 12:52

The reason I hate it is because it preys on people's anxiety to manipulate them into behaving in a certain way.

freedomyes · 14/05/2020 12:52

yes!

BirdieFriendReturns · 14/05/2020 12:52

I don’t get what the dementors want us to do. Sit around wailing and ghashing our teeth?

I do hope they stay inside for the rest of their lives..

LilacTree1 · 14/05/2020 12:53

Birdie yes, that and find the most tedious stories “I felt unwell for a month” and make it out like it’s a big drama. I think some of these people have never been ill.

GoldenOmber · 14/05/2020 12:54

Yes I remember early on in lockdown there were people on here saying they wouldn’t seek medical help if they got very ill with Covid, because they believed the NHS would not have enough ventilators for them. The doom merchants backing them up with “yes, that’s right, definitely they’ll be rationing ventilators for the healthy under-30s, only is gritty realists are prepared to tell the truth” should be really ashamed of themselves.

Wales health minister just announced 66 in intensive care in the whole of Wales which would fill three hospitals, which means the other 80 hospitals in Wales could be freed up in theory. We have 600 plus in hospital. One dementor this morning said 23, yep 23 people tested positive yesterday in a population of 66k in our health board. So we all should stay in for a couple more years.

There is a pattern to dementors, brexit really took the brakes off social media, in USA they started this when Trump looked like getting elected. We now have a serious pandemic of dementors in the western world.

Bollss · 14/05/2020 13:00

They want us to believe them. They want us to be scared. They want us to fear for our lives like they apparently do.

Quite sick when you think about it really.

I’ve just come back from the park. In most ways it was a lovely walk, no dementors, just people of all ages out enjoying the (patchy) sunshine. However part of it was a stark reminder of what’s going on, a local teen killed himself there a few days ago because of the stress he was feeling over the future, and a section of our walk was taken up with floral tributes to him. There was a small group of teenagers hanging around the area, I had a little chat to them because they commented on my dog (tiny, impossibly cute and an amazing ice breaker). I just feel so sorry for them, the future must look pretty bleak from their perspective. The whole “it’s worth it if we save one life” narrative makes me furious. That poor kid who killed himself was one life lost directly because of the lockdown.

Sandybval · 14/05/2020 13:08

That's really sad Bark, poor lad. I dread to think of the real figures, mental health support in the community has been whipped away and somehow people who depend on that have been left to just get on with it; at a time that is likely to be a huge trigger and they need it most. The slogan should have really been save lives, at the expense of others.

justasking111 · 14/05/2020 13:18

Funnily the welsh health minister when asked about indirect deaths from the fallout to clinics ops being cancelled mentioned the cost to mental health from the lockdown.

theThreeofWeevils · 14/05/2020 13:20

Just dropping in on the new thread to keep my 'despicable' credentials shiny.

Are we still murderers for sitting on a park bench if the rules have been relaxed a bit? just wondering where the dementors stand on this- I presume we are since they arent going to want to let that accusation go seeing as they love it so much

NUFC69 · 14/05/2020 13:30

I am breaking my rule of not posting as I agree with so much on this thread.

I am a 72 year old grandma to five children who, fortunately, all live close. I am incensed with the scare mongering going on and the inability of people to assess risk. There is an excellent article in the Daily Telegraph showing graphs of how this affects people in different ages, and comparing, for instance, the fact that there are 25,000 bad accidents in the UK every year, but we don't close down the roads.

I know a lot of even more elderly people and the general consensus seems to be that we don't want our children and grandchildren to suffer to save our lives. For me (and a lot of people, I suspect) the thought of being elderly, frail and badly incapacitated in a care home fills me with horror. I don't want to be kept alive with no quality of life just because I can be. I have had a great life, and I hope it does go on, but not at the expense of younger generations.

My friends and I have been following the rules because we don't want the NHS over run, not because we fear the virus.

Oh, and by the way, our Scottish posters will be interested to know that some of their compatriots have been ringing golf courses in Northumberland (where I live) and Cumbria, asking if they can come over the Border for a game.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 13:30

I think what we are doing is a bit like CBT, challenging unhelpful and wonky thoughts...

but people who believe their thoughts are not wonky wouldn't understand that

enjoyingSun · 14/05/2020 13:30

Funnily the welsh health minister when asked about indirect deaths from the fallout to clinics ops being cancelled mentioned the cost to mental health from the lockdown.

They've sent out a child health/well being online survey today, via both schools, from the Welsh Government probably why mental health cropped up.

needanewusernameplz · 14/05/2020 13:32

Argh, on struggle street today.

Pregnant, 39wks with 3 days to go to my due date. Sick of lockdown and having my only interesting thing to do being "going to waitrose".

Sigh, my mental health is taking a massive hit. Can only imagine how its going to be when I'm sleep deprived and covered in a small human's vomit, and poo, and wee.

BRB off to waitrose to kill some NHS workers.

thesuninsagittarius · 14/05/2020 13:32

I went for a walk this morning, a beautiful day here. Sat in the park and read for a while, it was lovely to have a bit of normality. More people around as the weather improves, and one of the sandwich shops has opened again. There are a lot of small, independent businesses here and it's worrying to think of the impact this has had on them.
I have refused The Clap from the beginning and I've no intention of starting now. I have the utmost respect for the NHS; my health conditions mean I use it a lot. But I'm respectful, turn up for my appointments and on time, and I'm polite and grateful to everyone I see, from consultant to pharmacist and I tell them I'm grateful. But that doesn't get you 'likes' on social media and it's not as 'look at meeeee!' as doing The Clap I suppose.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 13:32

Just spoke to my elderly Scottish dad who is kind of ok and going out lonely walks..he thinks he is being kept home in case he gives the virus to his grandchildren though Sad I tried to explain and said I hoped he might be able to see my other family soon

BogRollBOGOF · 14/05/2020 13:35

I'm in the act of murder waiting for 3 greasy cheeseburgers from a van on an industrial estate. The DCs can't wait to sink their jaws into all that cholesterol Grin

SockYarn · 14/05/2020 13:35

Sick of lockdown and having my only interesting thing to do being "going to waitrose"

That's it in a nutshell. The highlight of my week is queuing to get into Tesco. It's boring and shite and I hate it.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 13:36

Also if people have negative and extreme thoughts they can choose whether to share them and how to respond to them.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/05/2020 13:38

Well I'm off for a nice picnic in the park now. With my reluctant teens. Beautiful day here
